Draft Profile 2018 Mature Aged Prospects

Curious if you could give me your top 10 most likely prospects from the WAFL Futbolista ?

Im not talking about a guy who dominates each year and should be given an opportunity. Im talking about the guy who is genuinely on the radar of recruiters. Shane Nelson will (more than likely) be overlooked, again. No surprise. A guy like Cody Leggett will be.

Am wondering if a KPD is standing out in the WAFL?

Anyone in the SANFL Chris25 ?
New Assistant Coach comment today ..

VFL watchers - Josh Corbett? Won the Fothergill-Round-Mitchell for best young player. Who is he, what does he play like?

Too small....you have to have elite pace & skill set at his size to make it.
3cm shorter than Jack Viney...

Carlton should seriously look at him, they can actually afford a shorter mid right now- Cripps is obviously huge, but the rest of their inside brigade isn’t exactly short. Fisher the only mid I can ID who is sub-180 (175, same height as Gibbons).

The short thing only absolutely factors when you are taking a true midget like Daniel. I maintain that down to 173 they should be considered without height necessarily detracting.

It's difficult to put on the necessary bulk required to survive at the level at that height, without losing some of your pace.....Think Puopolo, whose basically a miniature human tank.

Caleb Daniel was the number one ranked player in his draft year as his ball use & decision making are highly elite.

All the things that are said about Gibbons were said about Kane Lambert as well. We all know how that story went. Gibbons well and truly deserves the chance

Lambert was a proven goal kicker (20 goals from 18 matches), his midfield ability to accumulate was even a surprise to his Richmond team mates.

I don't think it neccesarily that. Clubs will know what they are going to get with him. Look at the bloke in the Liston trophy presentation next to him tonight as evidence as to why he isn't getting a senior opportunity. No real outstanding trait to set him apart. They will know what they are going to get.

Would you rather Anthony Miles or would you rather take a punt on a kid who could be Marc Murphy?

Pack busting medium forward who has the game to take it to the next level. Think a smaller version of Tom Hawkins in that he will fly for the footy with no right to do so.

Not really any who are draft relevant. The four KPDs who played in the state game are all 27 - Fraser Evans, Dylan Stephens, Tom Keough and Luke Thompson. With the latter two having been on AFL lists already. I'm sure Thompson could do a job if needed at the top level still. Otherwise Chris Burgess can play at either end as a third tall, he's off to the state combine. As is Callum Wilkie who can play as that third tall rebounding defender. He's probably the best chance.

Nathan Kreuger could be developed down back also. But I'd only be doing that if forward didn't pan out for whatever reason.

Having seen a fair bit of VFL football this year, a smallish top 10 of most likely prospects not in the aforementioned post are;

Nash Holmes - 180cm inside bull. Plays very similarly to Rhys Mathieson. Kicking often can be a prick in his game but everything else stacks up to the rigours of AFL football.

Mack Rivett - 22 year old Port Melbourne midfielder who has come on in leaps and bounds for the Borough. Another medium sized mid but plays the game the old fashioned way. Tough.

Ben Cavarra - Always on the periphery of an AFL call up. The kid has transitioned from small midfielder to pressure small forward and had his most productive season to date. Invited to a state rookie me combine.

Jesse Palmer - Winning plenty of admiration for the Northern Blues this year with his ability to go forward and kick goals (27 in 19 games). Look for the former Port Adelaide rookie to be on the cusp of an AFL lifeline potentially.

Alex Woodward - Well publicised knee reconstructions for Alex but this Collingwood trainer turnt player has exceeded many expectations to well and truly make a statement as an inside midfielder. Not sure if clubs will take a punt but the kid has shown he can play with some continuity in his game.

Marcus Lentini - Coburg have been poor once again but this kid broke 500 possessions for the year (average of 27+), a truly remarkable feet for a kid in his debut year. Impact per possession could be better but he knows how to get his hands on the ball.

Callan Wellings - Won many people over with his ability to step straight into VFL football and not break stride. With a remarkable ability to cover the ground, Wellings shapes as an interesting prospect on draft night. Some like him, others dont.

Brett Bewley - Medium utility (now) has one of the best kicks outside the AFL. The defender turnt utility could play AFL, will just need an opportunity.

Will Fordham - former North listed player has gone back to the VFL and put up huge numbers for stand alone Frankston. Just looks like an AFL player imho.

Michael Gibbons - No list is complete without this kid being given a wrap. Running machine who wins possessions at will. On the shorter side to play that role at AFL level but he would flourish at the highest grade if given the opportunity.

You left out the one who will be drafted Tom Atkins, he is a bull and tackling machine who I expect will go in the 3rd or 4th round.

Ah, the annual "Tom Atkins will definitely get drafted" post. James Tsitas is more likely for me.

Tsitas is older which will count against him but both deserve a chance. I think with our issues with pressure forwards we may well rookie Atkins.

Right next to the Tyler Keitel has changed and will get a chance thread

To be fair Keitel probably has to have some off field issues to be constantly overlooked as he is better than a lot of talls on AFL lists.

Another player who should be considered is Lachlan Delahunty.

Probably the hardest working tall in any state league. Averages 24 touches a game playing as a tall forward and 2nd ruck. Came 3rd in the Sandover too.

Would be excellent depth at any club.

So what exactly lets Bolton down? He was a very well rounded mid when I used to watch him at Werribee.

I can't see anything wrong with his game to be honest.

He isn't super quick but has power to break tackles and burst away. He has a penetrating kick and his tank is huge.

Not to mention that he is incredibly dedicated by all accounts from those at Claremont.

I think he would be a very good AFL footballer.

A club will get 4 good years at least.
