By which time he would cost double and two first round picks...I would want to see that he could actually dominate in the midfield before we gave up big money for him and his issues. we have enough "potential" types running around at the moment.

There's only one De Goey type that's De GoeyIf we have De Goey types I must have missed them.
Oh dear, on do many levelsDe Goey is worth an early first round pick. Not pick 1-4 but anything worse than that then I'd do it. I'd also trade Stuv for a first rounder. Bloke just can't kick.
Yep, it's just a fantasy pretty much. If he keeps out of trouble for the rest of the year and keeps regularly playing like he did today or better we're about as much chance of getting him from Collingwood as we would be getting someone like Merrett or McGrath from Essendon, or SPS from Carlton. As good as it would be, I very much doubt DeGoey is going anywhere.
I don't get the DeGoey hype. He is another one of those forward/mid types that we already have.
Would be a waste to use a draft pick and big salary on him when we could get Gaff or Sloane through free agency.
If we could get Shiel, I would be absolutely wrapt.Personally forget throwing the money at Sloane or Gaff.
I'd just make a massive offer to Dylan Shiel. I mean that seriously. Go crazy. Shake the tree ******* hard. We have to seriously lump pressure on GWS who have serious cap constraints.

Half of GWS's list is OOC or eligible for FA at the end of next year, so for me that's when we need to go hard at them.Personally forget throwing the money at Sloane or Gaff.

Or offer money to all three of them?Personally forget throwing the money at Sloane or Gaff.

Agree mate. My hope is if we go hard at them now early and let our intentions be known it could apply some early pressure.Half of GWS's list is OOC or eligible for FA at the end of next year, so for me that's when we need to go hard at them.
This year go hard and try to land anyone who will make us better and if we get one of them be bloody grateful, and front-end their contract so that next year we've got lots of space for a Shiel/Kelly type from GWS to go with them.
Next year will be very interesting indeed.Half of GWS's list is OOC or eligible for FA at the end of next year, so for me that's when we need to go hard at them.

To get a player you have to be targeted. You can't just offer big money to every player. That just tells the manager and player you are fishing. Emma's book and interview with Ameet and Trout explains that. Also makes the player and manager nervous. They want security you can get the deal done.Or offer money to all three of them?
Fair chance they might all say no, why throw all your eggs in on me basket? Only one of them is contracted
Shiel would be the best get, but it could be hard to get him out of Sydney.Personally forget throwing the money at Sloane or Gaff.

Extremely hard I reckonShiel would be the best get, but it could be hard to get him out of Sydney.
You could say exactly the same thing with Shiel, that we are wasting our time.To get a player you have to be targeted. You can't just offer big money to every player. You need to court the player specifically. That's where I think north got very close to getting Kelly. They were very specific in who they targeted and how.
Players don't just want money. They want a fit to the club and security. Plus improvement for them personally and also the club. They want to be competitive.
We are wasting our time on Sloane and Gaff IMO.

I think he's more gettable. GWS lose more required players than just about any other club. Maybe gold coast excluded. You could say exactly the same thing with Shiel, that we are wasting our time.
Picking one target each year doesn’t give you much chance. You don’t have to go around waving money, there is no reason why you can’t target all three. We don’t have to do a North Melbourne and run and tell the media every time we have a new target.
Need to throw the net wide, because let’s face it, they are all very unlikely.
