I would love Gould at tigerland

memes aside he was projected as pick 1 not that long ago and is said to be Hodge/Hurn like but fat

fancy if he drops to 38/39/40

Thats the only place i would draft him , Terrible combine results
Unless he has the ability to become a mid i cant see him making it as a backman at AFL level , Shannon Hurn keeps getting mentioned as a comparison but Hurn was never that slow and very different player in my eyes.

I have him pegged at going to the suns at #20 or maybe pick #15 if they really love the South Australian players being all together

Im not against picking a key defender on the basis we pick on best available but its worth remembering that we have Ethan Baxter in next years draft and if worried for next season then Josh Walker was for some reason delisted by the Lions and could be worth a shot as a DFA. I don't think we need to keep throwing up key defenders seeing as we already have options there and likely have another coming through, we can discuss other names.

they will move Balta back, to compete with Broad, maybe, too

mopsy

With the 3 players not getting contracts, can anyone tell me categorically:
how many players we now have on the main list?
how many picks we can take to the draft?
and how many picks we actually have to use?

^^^

+1

cheers

I would love to be able to get Sam De Koning with 1 of our later picks (we may be able to trade to get into the 20's)

Sam De Koning + Ethan Baxter coming into the club gives us the exact demographic in our defence for post Astbury/Rance period (3 years)
thats good development time

He is being touted as a top 10 pick, he has a burst of speed, a booming and precise kick, doesn't lose 1 on 1 contests and is a great intercept mark. Add to that he's a leader. If he fell to our 1st pick then we'd be fools not to take him.

I cant see how a player with such bad combine results gets drafted in the top 10 but i suppose we took Ben Lennon at pick #12 so anything could happen

gould?

his combine results were disastrous, slow and no engine, and like bottom 3 across the board at combine. Need at least one of those traits or zero place in tigerland. As the gun said maybe if he slips to later pick.

Dont think we would now given our demand for speed and fitness. But he at least had an average beep test and 2km, Gould’s got nothing.

Im not exactly sure where to get the combine results but remember being shocked when i seen them , But i must say that no way he would be that bad and was thinking perhaps he has been 'gotten' to by a club who has told him he will get there and tanked the combine- thats how bad the numbers were

We won't know exactly until our rookie promotions are official
Currently we have 33 senior players, 5 rookies + 1 cat b rookie
We can have up to 40 players on our senior list, with 4 rookies

Assuming that Stack & Baker are upgraded and Pickett, Chol & Arts are staying as rookies, then we can have up to 5 draft picks & 1 rookie pick
We can also pass on some of those draft picks and take extra rookies instead

As it stands here is the list pre draft. Based on the renewed contracts and delistings we currently have 36 senior listed which includes the upgraded Baker Chol & Stack, 2 rookies Aarts & Pickett & 1 Cat B rookie DES.

We can add between 2-4 players at the national draft. Ideally the club looks at trading up and taking 2-3 picks as high up as possible and using the extra rookie spots to give us a bit more flexibility in the cap. It would also mean we could leave a spot free for the mid season draft or the supplemental signing period before the season starts.

Ok, I'm officially confused (which is not that hard TBH)

My understanding is that we can have up to 40 main list and 7 rookies (inc cat B)

Before retirements (except Grigg) we had 38 main list
8 Rookie list (Pickett came in for Grigg MSRD)

So, off the main list now we've had....
Grigg retire
Butler...traded
Ellis.....FA
Moore ..de-listed
Menadue....de-listed

Which now leaves 33 on the main list with up to 7 vacancies

Before retirements/de-listings we had 8 on the rookie list (can have up to 7) because we picked up Pickett in the MSRD

So off the Rookie list now we've had..
Weller....retire
Towner....de-listed

Right now, we have...

7 vacancies on the main list (if we go to 40)
1 vacancy on the rookie list

By my understanding (limited, yes)
If Stack and Baker are upgraded then we have 5 vacancies still available on the main list and 3 available on the rookie list.

AFL rules state that every team has to take 3 'live' picks in the ND (which we have covered)

It’s not hard to confuse me either but I think you’ve nailed it.

Although I think Chol will also be moved to the senior list. He signed a two year extension this year so I don’t think he’d be able to stay on the rookie list.

Yeah, I thought Chol too. It would be a pity though to waste pick 56 on his upgrade.

I think the second list lodgement might see someone downgraded (via de-listing and re-rookie-ing) to keep that pick 'live'

Of course with TPP restraints we might only have room for 38 on the main list , so WTF knows........Maybe we try and trade our picks and only take 3 in the ND.........

he does not look that athletic though in the motion from memory though
