2019 Draft

Didn't add any Jacks tonight, Saints still a few jacks ahead of us.
Hopefully there's a few getting around in the rookie draft so we can win absolutely everything the AFL has to offer.

2.86 over the 20 ?

*** that’s quick for a big boy.
It's ****ing lightning for anyone. Usain Bolt did 2.93 in the first 20 metres of the London Olympics 100m final (9.63 for the 100) and 2.89 when he ran the 9.58 world record.

No short people taken this year

Dow 184cm 76kg
Cumberland 183cm 79kg
Martyn 185cm 83kg
Ralphsmith 188cm 75kg
Nyoun 195cm 87kg

Haha reading this thread and the outrage when no one here has seen these kids.

Cumberland in our system = potential star.

Martyn is a ball magnet with high level athletic capabilities.

Ralphsmith is my boy and couldn’t be happier, could become anything!

I don’t know how anyone can doubt our guys, but each their own. This seems to me like we have picked guys we can lock away for a couple of years and develop and be there ready when our current crew start retiring.

Good list management.

Had we been quicker with our picks I think there would be less criticism but because it seemed like we were hesitant people are questioning how confident we are in these guys.

I don't pay much attention to academy guys so will need to see more footage before I can really comment, but Cumberland did standout in one of the championship games.

Ralpsmith as you say could be anything. The type of player he is (rangy half forward) doesn't fill me with much confidence but he is a highlight reel.

Don't particularly like the selection of Nyoun. Players picked largely on their athletic ability should be left for the rookie draft for me due to the one year deal vs two year deal as national selection.

yeah but how many BOGs did he get

Any ideas where we sit with rookie picks etc from here?
Rapped with this draft

Clearly looking past the window for the next wave of generational talent!

Tom will be better then paddy I still don’t see why he went at 3. Younger brothers normally are better as they are hungrier

Few examples
Jackson merrett vs zac
Selwoods vs joel
Jack grimes vs dyl

Cumberland is a smaller Tom Stewart with high end competitiveness

Will Martin is a magnet only one I was iffy on cause I wanted bianco but time will tell

Hugo boss is a project but could be elite. Have high expectations

Biggy will be a cult hero but can play the game! Everyone wanted a Key defender and getting him is huuuiige!

It's fun to get involved and back in certain players. I was keen on Bianco based on a bunch of grainy, poorly edited footage but clearly the club knew better. Not gonna lose any sleep and will now shift focus to backing in the new recruits.

I don’t like our strategy of just bidding on anyone’s academy if that’s what they were doing.
It’s odd because I haven’t thought this in years, but it doesn’t feel like we have done enough homework heading to this draft. Since about 2014-2015 to last year, it really felt like we were well researched and prepared but I don’t get that vibe this year.

I say this not because the group of players that we picked up. Rather, it is more to do with the apparent lack of targeted pickups. Some teams like Carlton, Geelong, Gold Coast and Collingwood had that vibe about them this year and we did too in the last couple of years but not this year.

I don’t know, we’ll have to wait and see how our group go before making any judgement, but how they reached their selections this draft doesn’t fill me with confidence like it did in the last few years. I mean, we have three unmatched academy picks on our list. Does it say that we got a bargain, or was there a reason why there was no bid on them? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

We just drafted the most athletic KPP in the draft.

We have the best KPPs in the league and plenty of time to develop him. Will probably be a star.
This bloke and Balta to dominate the back line in 2 to 3 years time.
