2019 Draft

Anything positive from this year?
The majority of this year was positive for Richmond. Doesn’t mean that everything decision they make this year is going to have a positive outcome.

In fact, it’s usually the successful sides that give the vibe of being unprepared heading into the draft. I remember when Sydney, Fremantle and Hawthorn were up for years, I used to think that it felt like they were picking up whatever in the draft and backing their system to turn them into decent players and for the most part it worked.

It‘s an unusual feeling to experience this with Richmond now with all this success and I kinda feel like Richmond might just end up having the same outcome as the other successful sides. Pick up anyone in the draft and turn them into decent players.

We have Ross, Balta, chol, Stack, Naish, RCD, CCJ, Graham, McIntosh, Turner, English and Higgins to come into the the side next year that didn't play in the GF.
Add Pickett with a full preseason.
We certainly did draft for three years down the track. Not 2020.

“The Lions seriously considered matching the bids, taking nearly their full allotment of five minutes each time, but ultimately the Tigers won through.“

Looks like Brisbane may have wanted them at their clubs. Brisbane’s NEAFL side didn’t lose a game last year and thrashed many of the teams they faced including the Grand Final, so maybe that’s why we were so interested in the Brisbane Academy picks.

Pretty clear we really wanted Martyn so bid on Cumberland expecting Brisbane to match. Meaning they wouldn’t have the points to match our bid for Martyn. U could see Thursfield move Cumberlands magnet up when Brissy didn’t match. Probably cost us Bianco so we did the trade then. A pretty major stuff up. Hope they learn a lesson from it.

This is the key point that everyone needs to keep in mind when looking at our selections.

None of them are for the now, we dont need anything for the now.

A few of these guys have only just turned 18 or are yet to turn 18, real long game drafting.

I like it!

Needless to say that no-one picked that draft haul beforehand. Paddy Dow's younger and, hopefully, better brother and three academy filches (two Queenslanders and a Sudanese lad). Oh, and Ralpsmith; the only one I had in mind.

It would appear that the club is backing their talent development program. Fair enough. It's got the runs on the board.

Both are the same height to.

I dunno. Bit of list clogging??

I like Cumberland highlights and his speed. He and Martin are a little similar though

Nyoun would have slipped to the rookie draft surely?
Did we reach for him?
I could be making things up in my head but I think that clubs are able to select any undrafted academy players as category B rookies.

That being the case any academy players who wasn’t selected can be instantly nominated as an category B rookie to their club and essentially selected for free without any other club then unable to select them.

I know when Eggmolesse-Smith went undrafted we nomainated him as a category B rookie before the rookie draft was held and no other club could select him, I think it was going to be the same if Kyle Kirby never got drafted.

Cumberland looks like the exciting one to me so I kinda am OK with that stuff up if it was what happened.

Having said that, one should only bid on a player if they‘d be happy to get that player. Too risky otherwise
