Should all ring up claiming that Hawthorn is targeting player X to the point where they actually think it may be true.We should all start ringing up trade radio with the hypotheticals in here, would be a quality laugh
He’s only their best player and captain.
Silly of me to suggest he’d be going absolutely nowhere.
I actually thought he was a better leader than player, in a lead by example kind of way. Except for those few early years at WC where he was a rediculous athlete.Just for clarity... Judd was an extremely poor captain. Great player yes. Captain and leadership terrible.
Remember at the Brownlow medal when Brendan Fevola got tanked and Judd did nothing to stop him talking on tv (just laughing in the background as Fevola embarrassed himself).
And then the booze cruise where he didn't pull his Carlton team in line when they were getting too loose in public. Maybe it was an end of season function.
Just saying.....

Heard that we are in for Butler??
Butler is overrated. I’d rather keep an ageing Puopolo for another year.

I don't know if I'd keep Poppy another year over Butler, but yeah Butler is overrated for sure.
Ditto. In what way is Butler overrated? Genuinely curious

By the amount of people on here that think he'd be a genuinely good get for us. Apart from being relatively quick he hasn't got much else to his game, can be a very selfish footballer at times and also can be injury prone.
Yes mate, you’re free to write walls of text about a player that we’re less than zero chance to trade for. It's not silly. but it is close minded to not think about the bigger picture and scoff at those who do just because you have a different opinion.
That's why I asked questions... It's better to ask people to think than it is to tell them how to think.
He is a great player and there would be no point in suggesting him otherwise. There are not many players a team could trade that have the currency to shape their clubs future. Especially 28 year olds who look very unlikely to be a crucial part of your club when you're challenging again.
His leadership skills have improved but only a few seasons ago he wasn't very well liked within the club. He would have left previously whilst returning from injury if clubs were confident enough to pay HIM overs but there was no guarantee he would recover fully and clubs were unprepared to pay crazy money and take the risk.
If Freo could get 1 & 2 in the draft for instance would it be better for them long term to build a super strong team with an improving age demographic. Think of what the Hodge draft did for us. You gain more high draft picks through rebuilding and add smart trading to assemble a formidable list.
As for relevance as to how it effects Hawthorn, it could need a super trade or at the very least have a knock on effect and create opportunities. IMO with our aging list we are probably better off targeting both elite and complimentary talent around the age of 23 that allow a wider window of opportunity that is also ready to contribute both now and later should we not win a premiership in the short term.
Last year I talked about it in the context that we should go after Fyfe but it was a high risk stratergy. You would probably have to of given up to much to make it worth while. When Mitchell broke his leg so badly (depending on the speed/quality of his rehabilitation) it may have proven a bad list management stratergy even if Fyfe had won the brownlow with us.
Look this is all highly speculative, moderately relevant, will most likely never happen, taken up way to much time and gone a bit off track but it is plausible.
Isn't the point of this thread for a few supporters who love their footy to open their mind, use their imagination, escape reality for awhile and have a bit of fun doing so?

Injury prone? Played 23 games in a debut year, 15 in 2018 and wasn't getting a lot of selection this year due to other players, more so than body.
Not just speed, his tackle and disposal averages are pretty handy.
He's no Cyril but he'd be pretty handy.
How are you a moderator?Yes mate, you’re free to write walls of text about a player that we’re less than zero chance to trade for.
Go your hardest.
Played every game in 2018 up until Rd 16 when he had syndismosis that ended his career. 2019 hard team to break into. That fairly durable for mine.I thought it was foot or ankle troubles that hampered him somewhat in 2018 ?
i just dont get the Ollie bagging. Did a lot more than was expected this year.Butler is an upgrade over present day pop and is a better footballer than Ollie so I am all for it..

Agreed, also it shouldn't reflect poorly on Butler that he was restricted to the VFL.Butler is an upgrade over present day pop and is a better footballer than Ollie so I am all for it..
Third generation Hawk could be a "star": Twomey
