Candidates:
Steele, Ross, Armitage, Billings, Gresham, Dunstan, Sinclair, Hannebery, or rookies
I've had Gresham in and out of my forward line across the pre-season. I think it could benefit him. Also Acres is the other that could really benefit. I started him last year and he looked really good until he got hurt.
I suppose JLT will tell us to a fair degree.

I like it. I think Clarke is pushing shit uphill to be starting ruckman at Essendon though. And doubt he plays alongside Bellchambers. They've got good chop out options. Think you probably need a better option at R2 for that reason?? Got any cash in the bank ?? Also I'm thinking Devon might be an upgrade target for me with his interrupted pre season at his price. Thoughts on Rocky. Do you think he will be allowed to play that accumulator role like he did at Brisbane ??

Totally agree with your first two points however I feel that Rocky does have a lot of upside.
With both Polec and Wingard gone I feel he will spend far more midfield time than what he did last year.
I think he was still hampered by his shoulder problems last year which impacted on his tackle count.
Although he will probably never get back to the piggish days of 2014, I feel he is quite capable of pushing beyond 100 this year making him a perfect M8 at year's end.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't asking from a negative point of view, from what I've read I'm keen on Rocky. Just wanted some Port supporters take on him. It won't take much for a lot of people to jump on real quick purely based on previous output if he shows a bit. I'd love to get the jump though if that's the case.

I think rockliff is in for a big one. Was good in the intra and looked fit.

Not much cash yet but look to agree on the Devon Smith. So gone to possibly billings for him and upgrade to Smith later and Clarke to longer for now?

I suppose that most rookies are just placeholders atm. I'd doubt scrimshaw will play and as good as he may be, I'm not confident about Quanor either.

Tay Adams out for 8 weeks

Damm it

he was locked away in my team. Will never know (may have an idea after he returns and we see how he goes) if this is a blessing that saved me from getting an almost guy (ave low 100s) or a curse that stopped me getting a 107+ midfielder for cheap, particularly as he wasn't looking that popular to take the risk on early in DT. I had confidence Adams could deliver scores that put him in the pack of leading mids at a bargain price.

Had some money left over so have now upgraded him to T Kelly giving me Kelly, Merrett, Brayshaw, Crouch and Hall as a mid pricer followed by 3 rookies.

hopefully the right rookies come through so I dont have to find money for changes I can't afford

My Official Pre JLT team (unless another Adams like injury pops up in the next few hours)
criticise, critique, tear it to pieces.

This team has essentially no money left

My most uncomfortable selections currently are Hall and Greene. Both JLT watches. Greene needs to play, hall needs to show good signs.
Rookies obviously all up for debate but hopefully enough cheap ones hold their own and/or a viable downgrade from Collins presents (eg Burgess) otherwise I may be having to find some money to make sure I have the best rookies and not just taking cheapies for the sake of it.

At this stage im taking Gawn as im not confident enough on those under him. If i need $$ though (be it for rookies or to upgrade Greene/hall) he could be the one to go and ill consider options then. Otherwise, unless Preuss looks likely to take big ruck minutes he stays as im not convinced now he will be as impactful on Gawn as initially thought and the cheaper options are no certainties to be enough value to make it worth the risk (pending JLT form/injuries to #1s)

Looks a good team to me, bit light in the mids but that's expected given how good the def and fwd lines are, you also have Gawn. This is probably the structure I'll have to adopt if I want Gawn in and it's looking more and more likely that I'll just bite the bullet and lock in Grundy and Gawn. Like you said, Hall and Greene are the unknowns but at their price they are certainly worth the gamble. I really like the T. Kelly pick instead of Heeney, I'm trying to do it myself but keep thinking this is the year that Heen finally tears up games and goes 105+. Quality team overall and you've now put Hall and Hanley on my radar

Zach is not looking like himself in JLT, hopefully he works himself into the game. I know its only JLT but he has been pretty invisible. Walsh finding the ball pretty well, think I have to lock him in now. Cripps dominant around the clearances, really strongly considering him now.

Should be watching another Zac. Had him in my calculations in a very early team, definitely looks like he's good for germy stats

He just came back from an ankle or something

Would not worry at all

He might only score 80-90s first couple of rounds, but he surely goes better than what he averaged last year by season end

he's just been subbed off for the second half so you're probably right that he isn't completely ok with the ankle. That's a worry actually as I don't want him getting 80-90s early on, especially if I decide to field 3 rookies in the mids. Might consider him an upgrade target if he doesn't look like himself in JLT2

Walsh and Setterfield locked themselves into most teams and although Gibbons scored 60, I was a little concerned that he spent pretty much the entire game playing that deep crumbing small forward. History has told us that this type of player will regularly come up with a few sub 30 scores. I would have liked to have seem him thrown into the middle occasionally tonight. If he continues in this role he will need to kick plenty of goals.

Lots of bombers played very limited time/roles last nite
Smith, Zerrett, Heppell yes only played limited minutes but we know their roles won't change

But a lot of talk all preseason around McGrath getting more midfield time, wouldn't surprise me if he goes to a wing or something

Think tactically I'm happy to pay a bit more for him and slot him in at D4 instead of a Smith, Roberton, Williams etc, particularly if expensive rookies like Walsh, Setterfield, Hately etc look like scoring well in other positions, so the needs to go deep in midfield and up forward aren't as high
