He got pulled out of Peel halfway through their game to play

I think he does rate him, just how highly? He's probably an outside chance for R1 but can see him debuting in the first 5 rounds
It would make life so much easier if he was named round 1. I see him as a 60 - 70 average rook.

Merrett doing my head in at the moment

not sure if I should back him in as someone who can easily go 110+ or find the cash to go to a coniglio/treloar as players who are hitting the season running.

Smiliar with a toby greene v Isaac Heeny situation also (definitely can't have both the higher priced guys, and possibly none if I pay up for cousins)
Will Shiel take a bit of his midfield time? Not sure. I still feel he will be a keeper this year.

Some people may call me crazy (certainly wouldn't be the first time) but I am loading up this year with value players.
The following players will all start in my 22 and I expect them all to increase from their starting price by between 15 - 30 points.
Williams, Smith, Hanley, Martin, Sloane, Brouch, Rocky, Cousins & Worpel.
Coaches are regularly looking for breakout players but I see no difference in picking fallen premiums to that. The list above has a mixture of both.

I've actually come around to this as well

Im settled with my team depending on who is named round 1 thou rookie wise.. the only thing that i keep changing is my Mids atm im rolling with Macrae Yeo Beams Brayshaw and Taranto im pretty happy with that but who knows

I'd field Constable over Gibbons

Gibbons won't score well, unless he gets moved into midfield or a half forward/wing role

I'll pick 1 of Atkins/Gibbons as they're both going to play small forward, but if midfield rookies options are light then both
yeah thats what I meant, if gibbons came on he moves to the bench (sorry, should have read M11) and Constable on. It would mean I had atkins + Gibbons if I drop Cousins

I've been down this long dark road several times before. If it works, you're a good chance to win the entire comp. When it doesn't work though, you're stuck with a whole bunch of spuds you don't know what to do with, and it takes all year to try and fix it and you never truly recover. I'll be very surprised if you don't seek some semblance of balance before the first bounce of Carlton v Richmond next Thursday night.

Jack Newnes anyone?

anyone taking the punt on Goldstein or Jacobs? It's hard not to be tempted by that 100-150k discount from Gawn.
I really liked the look of my side with Goldy at R2. Jacobs at R2 and O'Brien at R3 also not bad, but found it difficult to get out of my mind how bad Jacobs has looked at times in the past 2 years.

Due for a good year is Jacobs

Though he'll be 31 in a month, wonder if he'll still go strong?

Goldy is about the same age too IIRC

Which of the players mentioned will not improve by the 15 - 30 points as suggested in your opinion?

I currently have the Grawn combo but it could be handy having the $130K in the bank by going Goldy. It is handy having available cash when looking at trades after round 2.
Would have liked to see him play JLT2 though.

If one of Balta or Drew were nailed on to play at least the first 4-6 weeks then I'd be pretty comfortable with this

No doubt I'll chop and change again though

However

I think I'm set on

My whole backline
Macrae, Coniglio, Brayshaw, Sloane, Walsh, Constable
Grundy, Bines
Danger, Heeney, Setterfield, Drew, Parker

8-9 spots that are constantly chopping and changing

The main two player X v Y though would be

Zerrett + Moore

Vs

Cousins + Menegola/Boak

Zerrett + Moore is better job security

Cousins + Menegola/Boak is potentially better onfield output though, but Cousins JS not as good as Moores

like the side overall.

id have concern that Hoff will be stuck forward with Dixon missing.

Id stick with Merrett/Moore although I haven't given moore any consideration.

Interesting you have Hayes on your bench. Limited minutes on weekend would suggest he isn't so likely to play. Got plenty in week 1 but burnt it a bit. scored at a good rate week 2 in his TOG. You reckon he will get picked and be able to stay?

If the game was that easy I doubt any of us would play it. All of them could falter. Williams and Smith could start to get off the chain at the start of the year and start copping tags. Hanley, need I say more. Dusty could easily deliver more of the same. Sloane prone to a tag and some very good midfielders around him to steal points. Brad Crouch has struggled with his body for the bulk of his career and where he's priced needs a very good year to improve by a 15 point average. Rocky like Dusty could easily deliver more of the same, and it doesn't seem like double digit tackle numbers are coming back to his game. Port also have a glut of inside mids, he would need to go back to his ultra accumulator role and I'm not sure that fits with Port's new fast ball movement game plan. And Cousins and Worpel could easily get Clarko'd. I think there's a reason why this list of players aren't in absolutely everyone's side.

My team as of this week 😂😂
Zac Clarke will be someone if he's not picked and will be Grundy after round 2 if he has a slow start.
Rookies will change pending selections.
Thoughts?

I like it. One thing I will say though is I don't think you're getting value with Crisp. He can have some absolute great games but then serve up absolute poo from a DT perspective. He's conned people the last 2 years with good runs mid season then goes back to hit and miss weeks. I'd want to see an extended run of form and consistency before I bring him in. Upgrade target at best for mine.

If Hayes is picked round 1 he's in my side

Will average about 60-70 which is way more than what Atkins/Gibbons will manage, he'll be part of our half forward/outside mid rotation, doubt he plays pressure forward.

Can say the same about Bewley really too

Worst case scenario they'll be early downgrade rookies

The Port board reckon Westhoff will roam around still, they think Marshall and a resting ruckman (likely Ryder) will play deep forward more so. Though I'd expect he'll rest there or drag opponents there through workrate.

What I'm worried about I'd westhoffs points were inflated abit last year because he was ticking and was also roving.

With 2 rucks he may drop 10-15 points as he won't be around the stoppages as much.

Not getting inside tackles and hitouts. Like what trengove did couple years ago.

Thata my worry.

Around the ground he will still do his own thing.
