Definitely this. Teams will help make the final tweaks and anything before then just causes anxiety.

My strategy is generally not to pick many Blues/Tigers players as they get locked in after Thursday and reduce my flexibility for 'tweaks' after the rest of the teams are announced.

At this stage I'll only be certain of taking Setterfield/Walsh and to a lesser extent Gibbons into the Thursday game so I still have some flexbility my final structure on Friday afternoon.

I'll may give Balta a miss (even if he's named) as I'll probably come to rue locking in that bench spot up forward.

I also need to make sure I don't fall for cheaper mid-pricers who post a tonne in round 1. I'm ashamed to say I saw quick dollar signs in Aaron Young after his tonne in R1 last year and can only assume there will be similar traps this year. Looking back at 2018 I do seem to recall most of my trades in the first 4-6weeks were epic fails trying to chase the early performers. I'll be trying to just swap rookies around for the first 2-3weeks.

I would also like to remain ruthless with injuries of any kind to any player in that if they're missing for a week they're out of my side. It worked v.well for me last year particularly with guys like Merrett etc who's '1weeker' turned into 4-5weeks.

So far balta is the only one who has left my team in the past few days for parker. Likely balta will score more but I just don’t want to waste a trade after 1 week when balta gets dropped. Hardwicks comments about Riewoldt/Lynch and balta have just made him a no for me. Even though I think he could potentially be the best scoreing fwd rookie if he played each week

Geelong list is interesting given they didn't exactly suck last year.

My partner has broken the deadlock (as a Carlton supporter) and has insisted I put Cripps in over Selwood, haha. Given the news today that he'll be playing pretty much pure mid, with a rest down forward (the VC is handy too), and the likely Greenwood tag for Selwood, this is my Round 1 side (barring selection)

DEF: Crisp, Smith, Williams, Ridley, Clark, Scrimshaw/Duursma (Hore, Burgess)
MID: Cripps, Treloar, Brayshaw, Taranto, Rocky, Brouch, Sheed, Walsh (Atkins, Scott)
RUC: Gawn, Phillips (A. Smith, Draper/D. Cameron/Sweet)
FWD: Danger, Dunkley, Boak, Newnes, Setterfield, Drew (Petrucelle, Parker)

After the Traders talked about team structure, interested to see what everyone else's team structures are:

Rookies- $0-$270K
Mid Pricers $270K-600K
Premiums- $600K +

My on ground team structure is:

Def: 1,2,3.
Mid: 4,2,2.
Ruck: 2 (Goldy, Gawn)
Fwd: 3,1,2.

Def: 1, 2, 3 (counting Ridley as a rook).
Mid: 4, 2, 2.
Ruck 1, 1 (Grundy + Jacobs).
Fwd 4, 0, 2.

Defence and the forwards are pretty much set. Still umming and erring on whether it's worth weakening the mids to get in Gawn but I've had this team for a week now so I'll probably go in as named at this point.

A few on the saints board seem confident Joyce and/or Wilkie will get a gig round 1

I’m somewhat going off the idea of starting with Libba and thinking maybe a rookie in his place to upgrade my fwd line.

Currently have Libba (80) and McCarthy (65) who may combine for 145pts on a decent week or could go too another mid rookie such as Atkins (60) or darling (90) up forward (150). Similar overall scores but I can see darling pushing a few really big scores and more regularly hitting the 100mark especially with the been 6/6/6 rule I see it benefittinng him.

And Libba I feel has a ceiling around the 110 mark and recent seasons in 16/17 (obviously missing last year) he scored a lot of 50s and 60s with only 2 or 3 scores over 100 and needs a lot of tackles to reach that.

Just not sure how comfortable I feel going into the season with Walsh and then 2 other rookies on field in the midfield

All about whether we get the rooks I suppose. I'd probably only lose him in pursuit of a guy in/around the rolling 22 though. Not sure it's worth it when Darling might not even out-score Libba.

Forcing myself to not touch my team until the teams come out on Thursday. Have made this mistake too make times at this point in the year!

It all depends on which rookies are named tho. Lots of sleepless nights between now and theno_O
