Geary has done exceptional job to play the number of games coming from rookie list.

But sorry Gringo his kicking and turnovers have never improved , it’s your opinion have a different one.

There is a reason he is always free when opposition zone off , they want him kicking the ball.

When he does they score.

The End.

He goes at 78.3% which is very good for a defender, actually pretty good for an AFL player generally. I think some people just have a bit of confirmation bias with him. Go back over his games and find one where he has a mass of turn overs in the last few years. He's pretty reliable these days.

He's so reliable that opp coaches isolate him. Stats are not relevant here. Even his handballs are poor. Should be at Sandy.

My Hawks mate reckons Mitchell is shit because he gets 45 possessions and half are useless. He doesn't rate him very highly at all. When you watch him he does seem to get a lot of undamaging possession too.

Your mate has no clue.

I bet he loves watching Isaac Smith & co... probably doesn’t think to watch how they get the ball so easily.

Thats because he takes their most dangerous small forward each week. In not a great fan of Geary being captain but its really more of an indictment of the lack of quality senior players on the list than it is on Jarryd.

+1.

Maybe try round 3 this year vs Adelaide for an entree ...

We conceded 11 goals from turnover Adelaide kicked 15

Seriously there are only 2 stats that really matter Goals for & Goals against.

Reliably told internally told focus is on defensive efforts this summer not for a few minutes
but the whole bloody game.

Turnovers are the major source of scoring these days all the good teams do it better .

So Geary was solely responsible for all 11 turnover goals?

Are we going to see more of Acres and Coffield in the midfield this year? Perhaps with Stuv and Steele with stints in the forward line?

This is a bit old now, i don't know where to get the latest stats.

Coach Alan Richardson encourages his players to be aggressive with their ball movement, but the Saints don't have enough elite ball-users for the risky option to consistently pay off. Jade Gresham was drafted at No.18 last year and will improve the team's ball movement when he becomes a regular senior player. St Kilda ranked 15th for points conceded from turnovers last year so there hasn't been any great change, but as the younger players mature, the Saints will improve their disposal. - Dinny Navaratnam

Points conceded from turnovers in 2016: 73 (ranked 17th)
Giveaways (turnovers from an error): 116 (ranked 16th)
Most turnovers this season: Jack Steven (27)
Most points conceded from turnovers: Sam Fisher, Leigh Montagna, Jack Newnes (26)

I think it's coming form another club too. Fans always love a home grown player more. He does **** around with the ball a bit though. A lot of dominant players demand a lot of ball and don't always use it well. He loved Cyril who could do a lot without many actual touches.

Does he get isolated all the time though or does he sometimes play as a lose man in the backline like Geelong used Stewart against us? Anyway his start to the season was good this year IMO.

I’m not a Geary basher but his ball use is still pretty dogshit despite his gradual improvement over the last few years. The only game I managed to see live this year was the second game vs GWS and it was so evident that the Giants forwards would deliberately leave Gears to be the receiver in multiple passages from defence. You couldn’t fault his effort, he ran all day and broke the lines on a number of occasions however he had at least 4 really bad turnovers which killed out momentum.

Geary ended up with 30 touches whilst at the other end of the ground the Giants had Whitfield rack up 32 coming from defence. Think it’s pretty simple, with better coaching Geary will shut down the oppositions best player whilst leaving majority of the rebound to Jimmy, DMac, Sav etc. Feel as though Ricoh and co really set Jarryn up to struggle playing him as high HBF/winger. He’s a shut down back pocket, and one of the best in the comp at it.

If you look at the advanced stats the midfield was the issue. Jack Steven was at 50%, Armo 47%, Sincs 65% etc. The defenders seemed to be using the ball okay, it was just not making it through the midfield. Looks like Long and Paddy turned the ball over heaps as well. If you kick it out of defence and the mids turn the ball over it keeps coming back in until you concede a goal.

Did not say that , but it’s interesting that someone was playing up the ground , then played
as a loose man in defence both tactics appeared to fail in the following weeks .

Stkilda will not improve unless it there is a systematic change in moving the ball out of defence.

All I was informed about Saturday is that defence is the focus .

Guess what Nick was good at doing last season.

Paddy had about 4 field kicks all year so got ourselves a real Gem there.

The solution is simple. Dylan Roberton. He is EASILY our best ball user out of the backline. With him back in the side Geary can go back to a lockdown roll and we will be sweet. I think Josh Battle is being groomed as a replacement for Robbo too, if Robbo is unable to play again (KNOCK ON WOOD he is G2G)

sincs is definitely guilty of butchering, especially as he can be quite a nice kick. Armo's a lost cause, and I'm not too fussed re steven because he breaks lines and gets it in dangerous spots. It's the up and under kicks to the pocket that truly kill me/us
