I woke up this morning with the following though: Libba to play the year as a pressure forward. My reasons being:

1. Great kick
2. Great tackler
3. Preservation of health - one more knee and it’s all over

I reckon he has 30 goals a season and many laces out passes to Gowers.

Thoughts?

I think if there was an over under of him playing 4.5 games, I'd go under.
And I'd go over.

That's not so much an endorsement of the player from me but recognition of the fact that the club seems to rate him higher than we on BF generally do. Why that is the case is the interesting question.

Fair enough, i'd love to be wrong too. I think with a decent injury list this year (probably asking a lot) we just have a few too many in front of him.

Yeah don’t mind this. But he’s such a bloody good inside mid.

Unlikely
He is his father’s son - and like his father he will find ways to reinvigorate his inside game

We have yet to see his best
Forget the injuries - his dad came back from an ACL in the same season.
I’m thinking/hoping his had his prodigal odyssey and after being confronted with his football mortality is ready to make some statements.
His a premiership player already
He needs to add a BnF and an AA to that resume.

I’m expecting a shit loan of resolve from him and a few others

He was BnF in 2014 and made the AA squad in that year.

Following our Epic finals series in 2016 a number of events have conspired against our teams success. Many Assess our playing list as barely a finals contender for 2019 and some much lower. I am not of that view. 15 of the 22 premiership players remain on our list.

Gone are:
TRADED - Hamling, Stringer, Dalhaus, Roughead
RETIRED - M Boyd, Clay, Biggs

I think we can concede we did have some sort of a hang over in 2017 but we have also been hit with a number of injuries and crisis which have disrupted the team. The Stringer debacle derailed for a start had to rock team unity throughout 2017. Clearly, Biggs & Liber really struggled with motivation. The Clay Smith of our 2016 Finals Series was mammoth but his run of bad luck returned with vengeance and cruelled his career. Losing AA players like Matthew Boyd and Robert Murphy has to unsettle any team. Neither Marcus Adams or Tory Dickson could get any continuity with their bodies. Tom Boyd had his well publicized issues and our most clutch player - Liam Picken - has been sidelined with concussion related issues.

You hate to make excuses, but our list has been hit fairly hard.

Our Best Players - The Bont, Macrae, Hunter have had to shoulder an unfair load during this time but

Through all of this I think the club has kept its eye on the bigger picture with quality drafting, solid trading and player development.

NEW BLOOD:-
Tim English, Patrick Lipinski, Lewis Young, Aaron Naughton, Ed Richards, (Ryhlee West)
Josh Schache, Billy Gowers, Hayden Crozier and Jackson Trengrove

The draftees are real quality to be excited about and the trades add depth and potential.

RETURN TO FINALS:-
I expect us to make the bottom half of the 8. The 2016 Premiership team was one of the youngest teams to win a premiership. Many of those boys are now seasoned: The Bont, Macrae, Hunter, Dunkley, Cordy, Daniels, McClean.
If we can have something like a decent run with injuries - together with solid returns from Picken and Liberatore than the flow on effect should elevate us sufficiently to make the 8.

Don’t mind this but though he’s a great tackler he doesn’t really have that pace and closing speed. He’s also not a strong aerial threat. I think his best and most comfortable role is in-and-under where he can support bont with releasing handballs. Who knows though. I just want to see him out there getting stuck in again.

As if our forward line wasn’t slow enough ..

A little birdie has told me Liberatore is in great nick and really intent on setting himself up for life by giving football his absolute best over the next few years. Bevo once said of Libba "I don't know how bad he wants it." At 26 years of age, Libba wants it more than he ever has.

The gun Libba was the inside beast who would be in the face of opponents. Didn’t see that from him in 2017.

By your logic the 3 state-league recruits the Suns added during the trade period that kicked off pre-season training are year 0 players.

Pre-season for year 1-4 players has started, we just haven’t drafted all of our year 1 players yet.

It’s pretty straightforward.
This is a silly discussion.

really like your idea. it is sound and logical.

Hard no to this. Libba is an awful contested mark, wouldn't get any separation from his opponent in the forward line and would generally struggle to find the ball in open space. He can tackle but I really don't want a slow small in the forward line that has no forward instincts whatsoever. Keep him in the middle where he does his best work. I don't think him playing small forward is going to preserve his knee any more than playing in the guts.

Indeed, see Menzel/Alex Johnson.

Wallis to play that role. Rhylee to get games there too.

A few observations.

I called Young as our KPF for next season. I stated 2 years ago he has a bit of the great KT about him. Seeing his stronger build strengthens my belief.

Bailey Williams is developing as a very powerful unit. Strength combined with his evasive ability make for a very good mid.

If Roarke Smith is our new whipping boy, all I can say is he is very handy As depth. I think he is better than most pundits in here give him credit for. Admittedly, he’s not close to best 22 with a full list, but he is by no means a list clogger.

Cannot fathom how anyone cannot see that with a well overdue decent run with injuries we won’t be playing finals.

Start getting excited folks.
