Toby's beard. I do not like it.

Beards, long hair, man buns. Damn hippies. :oldman:

The beard [while I don't really like it all that much], bothers me a hell of a lot less, than that appalling sheep shearer's excuse for a 'hair cut'. Looks like he had a major accident with a ride-on mower.

Toby is almost exactly the same age that I was when I first arrived in Australia. All I have to do is look at my passport photo from 1975 and compare. I guess Toby doesn't look that bad after all. I had a helmet style cut back then. Two years earlier I had hair down to my shoulders and a mustache. Hippy.

I like his look but...

He could look like a Ramone if he tried.

Anyone got any news of whether Roberts, Cordy or Young have been training up forward? We could do with one of them becoming a Schache back up rather than that extra key defender. Get the feeling its most likely to be Roberts if this happens.

Naughton & Morris- FB
Cordy & Young- CHB
English & Sweet- Ruck
Schache & Roberts- CHF
Trengove & Boyd- FF

Experimenting with Roberts as a forward is the only way he saves his career to my mind. He’s behind too many as a defender and will never take one of those spots again.

Best we roll the dice and be pleasantly surprised

I agree with you but hold out very little faith in him having the capability to play as a forward, especially in today’s game.

This will probably be his last season but hey, he’ll always be a premiership player.

Well it depends, if he is on close to the base salary then you can do a lot worse than him for depth. He's never going to be best 22 but not everyone can be. You know he can come in and fill a role for a portion of the season if guys like Morris, Cordy or Naughton go down for a while. Much like he did in 2016.

We can’t have him as a third string backup, there’s depth (I.e. Lewis Young) and then there is the bottom of the well. I love Fletch and cheered him louder than any of the players when they got their medal at the g in 16 but he’s not up to it, unless we try something drastic.

As sayer notes, it’s unlikely to work but we really have to try. You can’t have players as the worst kind of serviceable depth, we need to see some serious upside.

I'm a huge Fletch fan as well but he's depth at every club. He's got everything except footspeed which is a killer, and while his skills are good he often takes that extra second to make decisions with the ball in hand.

We wouldn't have anticipated losing Collins and Adams in one year and to be honest Fletch was a mile in front of Collins from what I saw at VFL level so I'm comfortable having him on our list at base salary this year but if there are better options available we have to look at it at the end of the season.

We can't enter the 2020 season with only Naughton, Cordy and Young as tall defenders so Fletch may even nab himself a rookie spot. If we're comfortable with a back up ruck' on the list (many wanted to keep Campbell) one tall role-filler is bearable.

Well seems like few clubs are after Hird.

What would you do if we got Hird?

Overrated as a coach I reckon. Falls into the great players don't = great coaches mantra. And I don't care if it was years ago, the fact his club resorted to cheating and not being fully transparent about it, is the type of character we don't want at our club.

I'd be fine with Hirdy coming to our club. It would be smart of him to go to a minnow club like ours, where he can fly under the spotlight and do his best work away from media scrutiny.

He was an absolute champion player, and from what I can recall of our coaching staff at the moment, none were really champion players. None were on the level of Hirdy that's for sure.

Clarko, Hardwick and Bevo weren't 'champion' players and Stevo was a club champion at best. That's where the last 6 premiership teams got their coaches from.

I'm not knocking non-champion-player AFL coaches, I'm just saying it would be nice to have a champion player on board.

James Hird can rehabilitate his football reputation on somebody else's dime.

I would imagine that the tone deaf ***** at AFL House will fund and send him off to one of their far flung outposts, so as to ease him back into the fold at some point.

Our director of football went alright ;)
