Why would decisions on Birchall and Poppy wait until after the trade period? Wouldn’t you make that decision now so you’d know who to target. Don’t get it.
If we don’t get replacements we will keep them potentially. But land a new small forward and a hbf and I’d say they won’t return.

Well there is a chance we release or trade them then fail to replace them. I would suggest we are actively looking for similar players (or it's simply just making sure we get Butler and Frost) and then we make the calls on them.
If Frost falls through and we don't recruit any more defence cover I would say that Birch is a required player.
If we don't bring in a new pressure forward then i'd say we keep Poppy.

I think it’s a diplomatic way of saying “We are letting them explore their options over the trade period”

The creative language of speculation (aka 95% BS) during draft/trade periods from the AFL media:

I reckon
They say
It's been rumoured
I'm told he thinks
From what we hear
It's a real possibility
Pretty much a done deal
I expect that
From all reports
In discussions with
Although not formalized
He's into a lot of clubs
It's highly likely
They are prepared to
I think they have offered
He's about to sign
That should get the deal done
He's been approached
I've strong mail
His agent apparently said
From all reports
That offer sounds right
His name is out there
They really want
He is expected to
Could be a perfect destination
It's an unlikely move
He hasn't denied it
If 'player A' goes then
We hear he's interested
Time will tell, but
They'll need something back
He is waiting in the wings
We can see him at
Just biding his time
Keep your eyes on him
There is a chance that
It's almost certain
Pretty sure he wants out
The clubs view is
That might get it done
He's being targeted

The above list is the reason why a lot of people (myself included) simply switch off from 01 Oct to 01 Feb the following year. For those that can tolerate or even enjoy this subterfuge posing as journalism, have fun...

The one I hate the most (Barrett uses at lot) - "He's 50/50".

Whatever the outcome he acts like he picked it.

This pretty much screams that we have other targets for their list spots. One would think that Birch and Poppy know this and have been given permission to explore other opportunities but that's not to say they won't be retained once the trade period is over. As GW said its a shitty position for a 4 time and 3 time premiership player to be in but that's the Biz unfortunately 🤷‍♂️

My list was complied from the numerous no-names AFL media people that suddenly pop-up as 'experts' during these periods.

I missed 50/50 as I refuse to read to watch anything from the 'AFL Paparazzi', mainly; Bozo Barrett, Crazy Carro and Ridiculous Robbo...

May have been posted, but Damien Barrett said this morning that despite all the industry speculation, there is a 0% chance that Gold Coast trade both picks 1 and 2. Despite it being Purple who said it, let's just forget the 'we are trying to get pick 2 to get Noah Anderson' approach.

I think getting Patton, Frost, Butler & then Finn in the draft would be a bloody good trade window.

Judging from that, would be good to hang onto pick 11 for the draft and then probably trade future 2nd/3rd round picks for some late picks for this year for the trades + points for Finn.

Seeing as Patton and Frost already want to come, we will definitely be making moves in the trade period :D

so they still might trade one of them?

Spot on. Can't believe a word that is spoken.

This image sums up this entire trade period for every club supporter so far IMO...

Taking it that it's obvious they won't trade pick 1 under any circumstance, but the talk of trading pick 2 holds no merit because they will absolutely take both to the draft.
i see. In your comment you said their was 0% chance they trade both picks. so I thought that meant their would be a chance of trading 1 pick and using 1.

BTW, the AFL is going to introduce another trade period. It is set to go from JLT until Rd 1.

This is not a joke
The first thing I thought when I read that on the AFL site last night (or was it the herald sun?) was "oh, another opportunity to hand out priority picks".
Edit: an old multiquote showed up!
