Am I the only one a bit concerned with how nonchalantly we seem to be letting go of our newly found depth?

Bastinac for starters.
The bloke has 164 games xp, played in 4 finals. Great depth. Noble cited the fact that inexperience in finals was a big consideration in taking Birchall.
What if Lyons or McCluggage goes down late in the year? Are Corey Lyons and Starcevich going to come in and play at the level Bastinac could under finals pressure? Why not hold onto him for 2 more years on the rookie list? Costs us nothing.

Christensen. We’re going to delist a fringe 22 player at prime age, with 9 games of finals xp, going into a potential flag window, just to get one more pick in the draft (pick 60+ probably).

Lewis Taylor, Robertson and Cutler as well. I know Cutler cited a family reason to move back to Vic, but let’s be fair - he wants to get on the park and doesn’t think we offered enough. Now they’ve put their name on the market they may have received a reality check as to what they’re worth. If Sydney/Essendon/Fremantle are offering them 150k contracts and a pick 60 trade - let’s match that contract and ask them to stay here.

We need to put our premiership 2020 caps on. Pick 55, 91 and 109 is not going to deliver a flag in this window, or the next.

Having decent quality, mature aged, experienced depth will.
Yeah ive been saying much the same for a while. I am happy for cutler to go home for whatever reason (was never really a fan) and im more than happy for n robbo to expolre his options. He deserves a good run in the top level and if he can get that somewhere else im all for it. Id be sad to lose him but whatevers best for him. Basti, unlucky but has too many young players starting to overtake him. Lester as well, would like to see him given an off field role at the club.

Bundy still in our best 22. Squizzy and walker have definate value as mature reliable depth. Matho, cey, birchall, ah chee will round out that list of quality depth. Keays, starcevich, c lyons, maybe a cpl of other youngsters capable of stepping up to join them.

Interesting decisions to be made but thats the nature of the game.

Speed is all down to genetic factors number or fast and slow twitch fibres . Witho has too many of the later. Ben Cousins also sought out a running coach when he was very young but he had a bit more genetically to work with then what witho does in my opinion . Does that mean he can’t be a gun player absolutely not but people who think he is going to move into the midfield I think will be disappointed .
I agree with some of what you say but I can speak from experience in saying genetic factors (if true) are not the only thing that slows him down. His technique needs a dramatic reno as he is flat footed when he runs probably a result of his leg injury 3 years ago. When his feet hit the ground at the moment, he kinda slams his whole foot flat to the ground rather than using the front of his foot to help become springs to move him forward much quicker. He's got plenty of skill to burn and improving his speed just a little will give him versatility to play in the midfield if that is where he's needed.

I guess if we look at the ins and the potential outs has this trading period has it been successful in improving the team ? can it take us to the next level

All of these players requesting trades to St Kilda has raised a few questions in my mind.

1. What's the appeal of going to St Kilda?
2. Why would you want to go to Sk Kilda?
3. Why do these players want to play for St Kilda?

To me it’s one thing.

Their coach. Ratten is proven as a coach. Carlton sacking him will bite them. He has proven his worth at the top level.

How do you know he has a great footy IQ what do you base that off ? .When I see him shank kicks straight into the corridor for a turn over I wouldn’t call that footy genius stuff.
from interviews from players in the team.
Yes everyone turns over a kick now and then. Last year he did it more seems to think through things better now.
He is what 20-21.. Hard to compare him to Hodge.

yes off on a tangent I added to.. Someone said Birchall coming in for Hodge.. Someone else said maybe for Witho.

With loosing players someone here said Cutler, Taylor, Walker and Bundy on around $400k so need to clean cap space.
I thought we said we had lots of space at the moment. I know we need list spots.
C Lyons, Skinner and Keays been around a few years.
I hate to loose too much depth and expect another clean injury year if 3-6 go down we back to guys with zero to 2-3 games.
I know we have E Smith, T Berry Joyce, Fullarton, Madden and Joyce from last year coming through you hope get a game.
Skinner, Payne, Alison, Wooler, Ballenden, Cox, Smith from a few years etc

If we have to clean up salary cap how the he’ll do west coast fit everyone in . I was going through it with eagles Mathew the other day ( Kelly 800k /gaff 800k, McGovern 1.2 million ) hurn , yeo and shuey all have to be on 600k plus . Redden , sheed , darling , Kennedy, Nic Nat .

Without cut pasting the whole thing:
A pair of Brisbane Lions fringe players look set to be on the move with Sydney and Essendon showing interest in Lewis Taylor and Tom Cutler respectively.

Lions football manager David Noble expected deals to be done for the pair closer to the Wednesday deadline of the trade period.

“Both of those guys are [being looked] at [by] clubs that have got a couple of the bigger deals going so we might have to be a little patient with them,” Brisbane football manager David Noble told RSN on Friday.
“Sydney’s shown some interest in ‘Lewy’ and Essendon’s got a little bit of interest in Tom Cutler so it looks like they’re going to play out next week but obviously those two clubs [are] being involved with some of their own mega deals.”

I also heard that we had lots of space...All those players in bold above are out of contract and I doubt they would be re-contracted at $400k...Bundy was only re-contracted last year for a year, after a long period of injury. This year he was basically playing for his career, so I doubt the figure of $400K

I agree nothing been said by Noble etc short of cap space.

You think they had a talk about being depth and younger players may soon go past you.
So have a look around and if nothing we can talk depending who we get.

Example: I know Payne looks good in the NEAFL and Adams pushed Walker out.. Although you think we like a couple of players ready.
If say Port came to Walker and said you played a fantastic game against us last year. We see you starting 22 you expect him to go.
