After a week of not being in your own bed, generally you're more tired rather than less - takes about 14 days or so to start getting used to the new surroundings.
Jeepers - sounds like a lot of anywhere, anytime... so long as it’s close to home and at a convenient time that won’t affect my biorhythm

After training in the heat and humidity for a couple of hours, I reckon it would be pretty easy to fall asleep. Can only imagine how hard done by Olympians must feel. Imagine the world records if they could all just compete at home and not have to travel.

They aren’t sleeping at a friends house or camping... they’re in luxurious hotel rooms with giant comfy beds! And it’s only one week before 3 weeks off, they’ll survive!

It’s not the bed that is the issue.

It is hardwired into humans to half sleep in strange places because of being to be ready when attacked to move.

So what your saying is if you did it more often you would get more use to it and sleep better in a strange place?, i agree.

Just stirring dude i love a good JRE podcast and enjoyed that one, but its still a discussion and while i thought it was interesting at the time, i don't necessarily agree with all of it.

There's a reason why they fly out, acclimatise, play, fly home immediately.

My recollection was our top end spent a lot of time on the sidelines in 2013. Sandilands, Pav, McPharlin, Ibbotson, Hill and Ballantyne all out for good chunck of the season

Then going into finals our backline was in a bad state with McPharlin, Ibbotson and C.Pearce all hobbled or out injured
The backline was left in a bit of a state!
Pav and Sandi missed during season but came back firing. Pearce ballas and Hill played 60 games.
Recent teams, especially west coast, show that if the whole squad is fit, you can afford to lose a couple of stars. It’s when you get struck with injuries to all tiers that you get effed over. Morale drops, peel turn to shit and you cop floggings in AFL.
Richmond have been absolutely blessed for 2 yrs now!

None of those over paid Wallys would be able to bounce a footy while running down the wing of the Perth stadium.
Yet any toddler can kick a soccer ball.
Least skilful game in the world, and requires the lowest intelligence to understand. Explains why so many people follow it.
Oh boy, popcorn time!

This needs to be sent to FIFA via AFL house

Easy to learn, hard to master. It's the basis for all successful competitive past times.

The guy is a leading expert on sleep.

Being in the health industry I can confidently tell you that any leading expert has about ten other leading experts who at least partially disagree with the extent to which certain activities or treatments etc positively or negatively affect people and even then it is generalized heavily. Let's say that there is a percentage of sleep lost but the percentage of bonding, learning etc is high. The calculation for the worthiness of the trip isn't entirely sleeping/tiredness accumulated it is weighed by overall benefit to the player and more importantly the team.

Either way - love the JRE podcast and would have thought the medical team, sports scientists etc would be managing load as we would with an away game, we should have a crap load of knowledge on travel, sleep, preparation and recovery given our yearly schedule.

What days do they train this week ?
What is the best time to arrive?
If you take the 10:55pm flight tonight to Sydney, and then the best connecting flight to GC you should be there by 7:30am... More than enough time for a very leisurely Uber trip to South Port Oval before the boys start training tomorrow at 9:45am.

Look forward to your training report :D
