It amazes me that we get better insight into what’s going on at the club from amateur observers than from the paid professionals.

Thanks for sharing.
Why would that amaze you? What the club does to review its practises and processes is an internal matter that it is not in their interests or the interests of their employees to publish. This is sensitive information that any club is going to keep in house when it comes to the details. They may do as the club has done and share the fact that a review has or is taking place and then maybe talk generalities about what comes out of it but they are never going to give anyone outside the club chapter and verse....

No. I did speak to a member of the medical staff a few weeks back and he did mention there has been an internal investigation into it.
They have put every other club’s injuries on a graph and noticed there are prominent cycles with injuries.
He said from speaking with mates in the afl system, teams like Richmond haven’t done anything different to freo, they’ve just been lucky.
I kind of agree that we’re due for some luck. Especially with our first rounders.

we actually had really good luck in our golden period aside from Mora any given week we would have 19/21 of our top liners available.

I meant journos.

I think the value is entirely in the bonding. That player who notices someone else is into Pokémon or whatever before he falls asleep and they chat about it and now it's slightly easier to ask for help on an issue or they feel more like staying around because they have better friends at work.

It would be hard to admit to mates that they like Pokemon

Playing half our games away anyway, Im quite happy with a few pre season trips to get use to it
When you sleep somewhere strange you get 50% sleep.

The rates of injury increase with decreased sleep.

Performance and learning decrease with lack of sleep.

I would have thought with the amount of travel, we won’t increase more travel.

Seems that the increased travel reduces a players career.

Not a good idea.

So what your saying is if you did it more often you would get more use to it and sleep better in a strange place?, i agree.

Just stirring dude i love a good JRE podcast and enjoyed that one, but its still a discussion and while i thought it was interesting at the time, i don't necessarily agree with all of it.

We certainly did.
Hopefully this “cycle” means we are to be injury free for the next 3 yrs.

My recollection was our top end spent a lot of time on the sidelines in 2013. Sandilands, Pav, McPharlin, Ibbotson, Hill and Ballantyne all out for good chunck of the season

Then going into finals our backline was in a bad state with McPharlin, Ibbotson and C.Pearce all hobbled or out injured

Fyfe building up expectations for Bewley. I don’t think he’d make comments like this about a first year draftee unless he is was exceptional

“The six guys that we drafted into the club are at different stages. We’ve got Sam Sturt who is built like I was when I was first drafted at 71kg, he’s got some work to do but he’s really enthusiastic.

“All the way through to Brett Bewley, who looks like he’s a ready-made AFL player and should be in line for selection in the early rounds of the year."

Sounds like there’s a lot of ball work (skills) this preseason as well as running. I’m really looking forward to see our game plan/style from next season. I’m predicting the hard running Ross is known for but better offensively due to better skill and faster ball movement. 2015 game style here we come (fingers crossed).

If Freo can manage to have best 22 to almost best 22 each week I think they will be very competitive

It’s only one month into preseason and I’m already this excited. Ever since the draft, I’ve never been more excited for a season to start and that’s with my expectation we wil only win a similar amount of games as the past two seasons but with a better game plan and less thrashings. Our list finally has balance, now just to stay fit and add depth.

After a week of not being in your own bed, generally you're more tired rather than less - takes about 14 days or so to start getting used to the new surroundings.
Generally true but these are professional athletes and travellers - training camps are a heavily featured occurance in European football leagues
