2020 AFL Draft - how will it work?

Whatever occurs from here is unknown but the games recruiters see the draftees is going to be minimal at best .
Unfortunately for these kids that if AFL games played are around 12 mark or less then surely the number of players to be delisted probably change thus giving them less draftees to be picked.
If only minimal u-18 games played then extremely difficult for recruiters and wonder how in past did top 30 players or so change from year out from draft to draft year. Would Mutineer or other draft watcher have views on this.
Perhaps they try to play a shortened comp over summer and hold the draft until March

If there are no more games, I'd expect the AFL to perhaps run a lottery style draft. They could allocate ping pong balls based on last years final positions, with the first draw only done for teams in the bottom 8. So GC get 18 balls, Melb 16, Carlton 14, down to us with 4 balls and Hawthorn with 1.
It makes sense to do it like that. Then to do the same with the top 8. The second round on stays as in the 2019 order.
This is the initial order, then you apply the trades as they have been done for the 2020 draft.

The draw itself will be fun, and it is reasonably 'fair'.

I think you run it as a staggered lottery.

The bottom six teams are in a lottery for picks 1 to 6. The next six teams are in a lottery for picks 7 to 12.

The top six teams you perhaps do in 2018 finishing order.

You want to make sure that a top team doesn't fluke a ridiculously early pick.

The upside to cancelling the draft for a year is that we’ll have to offer Mackay another contract to maintain a full squad

We base our recruiting on a persons character , so we should be right 🤪

Reducing of list sizes maybe

Yep, reducing list sides and making sure current players are looked after I would say.

Be interesting to see, if allowed, would a club cut deep and then go deep into the draft. Could build quite a list if everyone else is leaving them on the table.

You're forgetting most players will have legally binding contracts most won't be in a hurry to walk away from.

The year we stock up on multiple 1sts, 2nd and 3rd rounders.....haha only could happen to the Crows.
I highly doubt there will be another football kicked in the AFL Competition in 2020 so picks should just carry over to the "next" time there is an actual AFL Competition draft.

If its 25 picks, the AFL will give us pick 26 ascompo for Bcouch.
Crouch ain’t going anywhere, he will be staying as no one is going to be throwing big contracts around, plus the AFL aren’t signing off on any contracts and will scrutinise them heavily going forward.

He may have been wise to sign a smaller contract before x-mas. He may not even get that now.

Bit like the players on the whole.
Didnt they vote down the 20% pay cut a few weeks ago?
Now they have agreed to 50%

I heard Nick Riewoldt explain on Fox today. The players have already been paid 100% for this years (5 months) so far, they want to accept 50% for the period till may 31 and then back to full pay. So in essence they will be taking an 8% pay cut for this year.
