Hope we take McDonald. Look nothing against Hollands but the rate of subsequent ACL injury for players in the AFL under 21 is 50%. Therefore Hollands has a 50% chance he will reinjure his ACL. I'm not taking that risk on a top 30 pick, let alone pick 1. The rate of reinjury after doing an ACL for a player in the AFL over 21 is still 30%.

Fifteen-Year Audit of Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstructions in the Australian Football League From 1999 to 2013: Return to Play and Subsequent ACL Injury - PubMed

"The rate of return to play after an initial ACL injury was 77% (121 of 158 players). Greater preinjury playing experience and earlier selection in the AFL draft were associated with higher rates of return to play. The rate of subsequent ACL injury to either knee was 30% (48 of 158 players) and was especially high among players aged <21 years (23 of 46 players, 50%). After subsequent ACL injury, 34 of 48 players (71%) returned to play."

Thanks I have read that before.

Its my major concern for Hollands. I know some talk about Selwood, but Im not sure we can take that risk. Sure if we had won a flag over the last few years, but we need to play Moneyball here with our picks.

So Mcdonald not top 5? I'm a bit confused, cal said top 5 aside from juh yet named 4 players

The consistent sniping of him, and people who dare suggest he's the best selection is making you look like a tool.

You were less annoying when you were Mick.
how is he the best selection when he's not the best in the draft?

im also not mick. how does it feel to consistently be wrong? faith was right about you.

I’m taking Holland’s. More likely to win a flag with the best midfielder in the league than the best forward.
The best midfielders of the last decade haven't won a flag.

I wont be disappointed with Thilthorpe but i will be if 'that reason' is he is from SA. Shows a lack of confidence and a weak mindset from club to retain their players
What if its a case of.......all 3 are rated equally but as we have always said if there is not much between them we go with local kid Thilthorpe....for that reason he is 1.

A completely different context to what you are presenting.

And what did that wannabe say about me ??

Only 24 hours before you and mick go and support another team, can't wait.

And a pretty good chance he won’t either he is a match winner that you could build a premiership side around.. we have invested in some good tall propositions over the last few years and would be happy to add another with one of our lower picks but this is not where the modern game is won anymore. Hollands would bleed for this club and has future captain written all over him the type of player to carry a club over the line.. by the time we have developed McDonald he will be ripe for the picking for WC as there key forwards are retiring.. no thanks

ablett? dusty? hodge? mitchell? seriously dude, delete your account.
Ablett hasn't won a flag this decade actually, Hodge never played midfield in his flags, and then we have Fyfe and Danger.........

Swing and a miss micky boy.

Nevermind though, you'll change your name again soon.

Anyone else read Twomeys late mail with Essendon potentially showing off their preferred picks?

I'm definitely not Brett, although I'll admit I agree with some of his comments (just not his delivery)! Thilthorpe isn't another Franklin or a Charlie Cameron, which is what the original comparison was. You add some more muscle onto his frame and he's only going to slow even further as well. He's most certainly not a quick player, and the draft central summary below is further indication of this. Average speed and agility, needs to improve his explosive speed / strength. He's also not a high jumper, rather he uses his reach and height to take most of his grabs. Not a bad thing, but it highlights that again explosive power isn't something he's blessed with.

Unfortunately people want him to project as a dynamic and quick key forward, it’s just not what he is going to be. He has leadership, is great aerobacly, goes very hard at the contest and has pretty good skills. He is also very good for 201cm below his knees and reads the play pretty well. He just isn’t particularly quick off the mark, his lateral movement is very average and he actually doesn’t seem to jump very well. If he goes to a club that need a ruck then he will end up being a fan favourite and have a great career. If we draft him I think there is going to be pain ahead, as we will be having the Tillthorpe/Himmelberg debate as early as next year and then it wil become the Tillthorpe/ROB debate in a few years time.

It'll be the Fog/Thilthorpe debate.
