In regards to Sharp, on the Lions website it says that he is still 17 and has another year of schooling. Is that correct? If so surely leave him at home to complete it. Reminds of Philly76ers drafting Europeans and leaving them there for a few years.

Full credit to Nat, Cal and Riley, they are by far the least annoying draft coverage I've seen. Somehow they've made almost four hours slightly less painful that it would've been.

It's correct. It happened in the past with guys like Dangerfield but since they bumped up the age limit I can't remember it happening (though fair chance it's happened here or there).

Meh. Don’t know them from a bar of soap so can’t comment. We didn’t have the picks this year either.

With 2 first rounders already in our pocket I hope we do really invest and bring in some elite young talent next year. You are always picking later obviously the higher up the ladder you go, but we have focused more on trading players in, rather than the draft. We have to make sure we have a good spread of talent across all age groups.

Wheels falling off without Noble, Selwyn and Stef
Trust me, the person I spoke to at the club today again affirmed how gutted many are within the club that Noble and Griffith left.

As for Stef, just an idiotic decision to let him go given how average McInerney is as a ruckman (I admit he is getting there, but the fact he still gets beat regulalry by non-ruckman is a concern) and the reliance on the two Smith's now who'll each offer nothing next year.

If this was the NBA, right now clubs would be on the phones to agents to see if they could get one or two of the top undrafted kids to join them as a train on player during the preseason, with the potential to sign on before the season starts. The new SSP rules allow AFL clubs to do this now.

There are a couple of good kids in WA and Vic who haven't been drafted, that teams will get a first hand look at, as they train with them during the preseason.

I wish we could get a kid like Zavier Maher to come up and join us, with the potential of signing him as a rookie.

Lucky for us we’ll have pick 1 and Melbourne’s first next year as well then.

Or a bloke called Dangerfield.

edit: bit slow as usual.

We traded two late first round picks out of this year to get into next year. I'm not sure if this was in the recruiting teams thinking but this gives our players like Dev, Ely, Brock, Tom and James a year to press their case. Then we bring in some good talent next year. I would actually support a cycle like this.

Josh Battle at the Saints is another drafted at the end of Year 11 I think?

Screw you Collingwood. That draft could've been so much better.

If you go back into finals oblivion for ten years or so due to your horrible culture back stabbing loyal players, that would be just super.

It's what you deserve
Collingwood bidding on Coleman was a bit of a **** you to us IMO and purely done out of spite if you ask me.

Given they didn’t play this year a lot of them would take longer to develop anyway.

Rationally it seems unlikely, but... The way they traded in just before us, bid, and then traded back behind where we'd be definitely has a smell to it.

I can remember a young Chris Scott in a Brisbane Boys College uniform he was a border there as his mother thought that would be best for him then. Later his brother joined us. So we do have a precedent I believe for draftees to still be at high school.

IIRC the club gave Leppa the choice, and he finished his high school up here. Can't remember the school, but.
