The Olympics were scheduled for 24th July to 9th August. Caro and Hutchy were reporting early May that AFL and 7 wanted to have a game every night and several games to be played the Saturdays and Sundays over that period as a replacement to their schedule.

Looks like it is going to happen.

The AFL‘s next batch of fixtures are set to be announced next week.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the league was hopeful of publicising them on Friday, but a complex matrix of factors related to Covid-19 health concerns, state government guidelines and other factors will delay an official announcement.

The AFL is keen to condense Rounds 8-12 inside the current 32-day window before players return home from their hubs.

We've seen some shocking footy so far this year, I'd hate to imagine what we are going to be served up during the 32 day "bonanza".

victorian team are optimistic going home after rnd 12

17 game season.

9 wins to guarantee finals.

5 wins so far out of 6.

So we need 4 wins out of the next 11 games.

10 will guarantee finals. 9 is still borderline, especially if our percentage drops off with a few bad losses.

Still have games against Sydney, Carlton, North Melbourne and Melbourne. Absolutely ZERO excuses not to make the finals at this point. At 5-1 we should be expecting top 4 at the minimum.

I can see Port potentially playing St. Kilda Thursday or Friday night round 8.

Saints playing Monday night round 7? Surely not a three day break for a Thursday. Sat at best chance for saints, but I feel like SA govt will want teams in and out and not hanging around. I am going to predict Essendon here round 8 on a Friday night

With the exception of the Swans it's just going to be one Vic team after another, so I guess it doesn't really matter who or when.

I think when we get around to Geelong, Collingwood, Essendon and Richmond we'll probably get some good time-slots. Maybe the AFL will try fixture Essendon vs Port early as they would probably be the most likely to fall down a little bit as they've only had 1 game outside of Vic against a poor team (Swans).

Try maximise it as a top of the table clash.

The AFL is aiming to release its Round 8 fixture on Monday evening, but clubs remain in the dark.

Foxfooty.com.au understands the league will drip feed one week of games, starting on Thursday July 23 and running through to Monday July 28.

The AFL was aiming to publicise these fixtures last Friday, but complications regarding state government guidelines, travel, family and other factors have delayed an official release.

I wonder if a weeks worth of games is more than a round though.

What's the point of drip feeding it? How puerile, just ****ing release the lot - unless things are so chaotic that they're having to plug gaps day by day.
