Various drills based around clearing stoppage, congestion, spreading hard and hitting lead up targets.
Still too many kicks going over heads for my liking but it's very early and at least they are practicing stuff that we have been rubbish at.
Cerra and Brayshaw both excelled and are pushing their case for more midfield time.
Good to see JLo take control of a lot of the drills.

Edit: Forgot to mention Schultz worked really hard and did some very nice things on the back of some hard running.

Did I miss something?
Yes. Some non-indigenous Freo poster told us it was racist to use the term Dardy because it's an indigenous term. As you can tell we all took that 'political correctness' advice very seriously including Cam himself who is willing to sign things as Dardy McCrafty :)

That inside joke is now outside. You're welcome!

Oh, ok great. Being an inside joke makes sense, I was worried for a moment.
Using the word dardy is 100% fine... :)

While I'm here, thanks for the training reports! They keep me alive.

Is it even an Indigenous term? I thought it was country slang?

Great to see Matera keen to get back into it. He was killing it in the first half of the season when he had KPF's to take the focus and crumb off.

Averaged 2.2 goals a game in his first 11 games (When we had KPF's - Tabs/Lobb/Hogan)
Averaged 0.6 goals a game in his last 9 games (When we had Darcy as our main target)

I've always found indigenous men very willing to share their culture if you're open to it.
Agreed... I became close friends with an older indigenous man recently and he insisted I call him uncle and all his kids call me either uncle or cousin. It felt very awkward initially but as my western boundaries relaxed it felt incredibly warm and natural.

Back to training stuff has Cam been sighted yet?

Ah Hilly, Hilly....how we wish you well.
Just re-watched Pav's 700th goal game (with poignant nod to the late and mourned Shane Yarran). Hill burst the lines like an athletic gazelle and slotted such a smooth goal.

He’s still in the US isn’t he?

Work and golf got in the way, spent more time on the work phone than watching.
Cox now has a AFl body. Carter is much bigger, stuffed up a few times but moved well.
As has already been written, a lot of goal kicking. Both on the run and set shots.
The goal kicking was taken a lot more seriously that anything I have seen for a few years.
The set shots were taken with a coach on the mark.
A lot of the drills ended with along kick to a leading forward.
Two of the drills might have give a small clue to our new game plan. A kick to kick exercise that ended with player marking the ball then moving backwards behind the mark and kicking the ball 45 degrees to next person. Always in one quick movement.
The other was practicing a 15m to 20m kick in congestion.
There was a lot instruction by the coaches, as would be expected with a new coach.
Here are a few photos. 20191108_102541.jpg 20191108_102346.jpg 20191108_093718.jpg

Popped past on friday and was a bit surprised the sloping bank that does have some trees planted on it, was unmowed and full of weeds. If only they knew a 7 foot lawn mowing contractor........

The sandy area's do need to be sorted. Could be 10 years before anything is build there.

Footy wise the missed kicks in the 4 vs 2 drills were a bit disappointing. Carter missed a few and showed a lack of weighting with the ball going straight over the leading players head. He wasn't alone in this but the three in a row worried me. Chez was good tho.

Sturts starting to fill his frame but has a bit to go still. His kicking style is not worm burning or bullets but he seemed to have a nice depth weighting on it.

Hilly looks leaner and is such a nice kick. Hope he stays fit. Rehab group seemed about 5 people so far with jesse doing his own thing. I find it hard to tell Shultz, north and colyer apart. But it was colyer who was doing some nice kick to kick with hilly i think.

Lobb did some nice passes in the congestion drill. The kicking to find outlets in that one was pretty good. It was 4 vs 4+4 rotating between purple, red and green as the defensive 4. Not high pressure drill.

The last drill was stoppage-transitioning half ground and was a bit far away for me to tell who was who but it seemed to be pretty smooth especially in tight.

Burst from front of stoppage seemed to be worked on a bit with JLo yelling "use your legs to make the defender make a decision".

Cale Hooker's father Rob is hanging up the lawn mower to concentrate on wine and tourism (also he is not quite seven foot either). Is Sandi starting a lawn mowing business?

What time is training today guys? Looking to go down and have a watch.
Training normally starts at 9am but it sometimes varies when they get out on the oval.

If you like coffee and get there and no-one is about I recommend a little journey (by car) to Electric Bean Co (1 Merino Entrance, Cockburn Central WA 6164). Or detour on the way there.
