McCarthy should of been rookied at least, you can see why Neale could be persuaded. Guys like Harley, Sherro,
Blakely, and the targeting of Hogan would have me asking questions.
Then Cox and Ryan chugging beers, something had to give.
Hogan drinking before last pre-season, they won't getaway from the press over here.
To be clear Im not Im referring to the post above or referencing the above poster, but commenting on the Hogan posts last year that the above post reminded me of with the mention of Hogan.

Anyone mentioning Hogan's drinking as a problem is a true ****wit including the media. Currently doing one night volunteer work with a mens health organization dealing with substance abuse support.

The judgements that men are somehow to blame if they deal with stress in anything but a perfect way underline why so many men dont seek help and this is proven in ALL the research. Anyone who judges people for acting like huiman beings and not being perfect after going through the trauma of losing a father and cancer is behaving in a way that hinders men from seeking help in difficult circumstances. Dont care if I get a lifetime ban. Posts on Hogan here last year show that the ignorance of plenty bf posters and also demonstrate that there is genuinely nasty individuals in real life behind the likes of the person behind the Scham avatar.

In case anyone isnt aware the gender gap in males to females in terms of suicides is 3 to 1 over a number of years in Australia. I got told last week that actually the gender gap is probably more like 1 to 4 or even 1 to 5 as plenty of probable suicides get accredited in categories like 'leisure pursuits' which are 90% ish male fatalities. The major reason for men not getting help is that they think others will judge them with comments like 'they are just seeking attention' or they are just making excuses for poor behaviour'. Thats a deadset load of harmful ignorrant rubbish and was said by plenty on here last year discussing Hogan.

well said, couldn't agree more!
the expectations of AFL player by some i've seen are ridiculous (not referring to just Big Footy)!
Even if they do like a drink who cares... they're allowed to have a life and if they're abiding by club rules who gives a flying **** what they do with it!

People seem to forget that Hogan only went at like a goal a game this year. Let's give McCarthy another chance in a new system before we make our final judgement.

Hogan, McCarthy, Matera & Kersten all had better goal kicking records at their previous club than they do at Freo. Lobb's record is the same at both GWS and Freo.

It's a bit unfair, therefore, to compare our forwards' recent goal production to what is normal for an AFL forward. All you can do is compare them to each other.

And in that comparison McCarthy actually stands up OK for goals kicked. (Although there are worrying signs in other parts of his output -- such as his lack of defensive pressure).

Just by the way there is also evidence that a high income is a hinderance rather than a help to dealing with substance abuse problems. Far from being in a privileged position Hogan pretty much has four of the main contributing factors to overcome. Grief, health, age and a disposable income. Not to mention the pressure and scrutiny he was under. Blokes a deadset legend and overcoming more in his first 24 years than most do in a lifetime. Sure as hell a better human being than those judging from a far including the clueless on here.

Love your passion and good to be reminded about this stuff.

i feel like the awful shit he went through at the start of the year would have contributed to his form a hell of alot more than what people acknowledge.
from the outside it seemed like he was suffering away from home playing for MFC (through no fault of them just him suffering through alot of personal trauma during his time there), and it probably would have been a massive relief and weight off of his shoulders getting home....
only for someone go and to dig up a 3 year old video of him letting his hair down at a private party where every media outlet then plasters it all over their sites and papers. I can't imagine how awful it would have been for him to go through that after everything he has been through, with a huge majority writing his career off and calling the trade a bust before he has even played a game!! Trying to deal with that on top of everything else he has been through would have been hell, don't blame him one bit for turning to drinking!! The fact that he pushed through the scrutiny to play round 2 was a true testament to his commitment to the club and his career.

Dudes a deadset legend. Overcame more off the field than he has on the field yet gets attacked by the genius group on here that also happen to have zero clue on anything football pretty much all the time in other bf threads.

Yeah last year It wasn't that I didn't want Hogan, just the price the Dee's put on his head, especially with a navicular
injury.
But there was a stage last year that didn't paint Freo in a good light, mostly garbage, and in the end that probably
cost Ross his job.
Guy had form though with the Saints, yet with the Gaff incident you couldn't of been prouder.
A polarising figure best describes him, some thrived under him others needed to be pulled into line. One hat doesn't fit all and maybe the club should of
reeled him in a bit, spread the load.
Anyway I suspect both Tabs, Hogan play as FF, CHF, rather than half forward flankers then their injuries wont flare up again.
