Play Nice 2020 Pre-Season Training

F**k it. I’m putting $100 on us to play finals next season.

To be fair, there is no reason why we can't if we can keep guys on the park. If we didn't lose all our key forwards last season we would have gone close.

Some of the better photos I got from today

I gotta stop reading these training reports
I'm developing a real sense of optimism about the coming season, I should know better by now

Legit. Can someone please start being negative? Skin folds? Lack of pace? Not enough intensity? All the boys are looking good? C’mon railbirds, you’re not looking hard enough! All this new energy and positive vibes is gonna kill me before Christmas. Like westy, I’m really too optimistic right now.

I heard Fyfe got mugged in LA. Busted up his hand. Won’t be ready for the season. There that’s better.

If that really happens, I will find you...

Disappointing to see that McCarthy isn’t out there if he is able to train .He should of been there from once the young guys started. If he want to be in the 22 put in some extra hard work and get into an athletic body that can compete consistently at afl level. He has the talent but doesn’t look to be 100% in it. Hopefully he comes back in decent shape or it’s prep for most the year

No worries. I’ve got my “friends” shadowing him like flies on sh#*. Anybody trying to mess with him will be singing with the fishes, if ya catch my drift.

Now deBoer...he’s on his own. Never should have left Freo.

Aish finished his season four weeks later than anyone else on our list. He’s well within his rights to come back when the final boys return.

Agree - and he was in effect ‘working’ during the trade period in order for him to get to us in the first place. Fine for him to start with the main group imo without it implying anything about attitude.

I can't imagine many people being more of a Cam McCarthy fan than me, I've defended him ad nauseam on here and until recently, genuinely believed he was going to have sustained success, however, this off-season I've gone a full 180 on him.

He's done, he won't make it and he'll be de-listed in 11 months. I've only just come to terms that it was a diabolical trade (even though we made it work for us) that was done irrationally because he was one of the first interstate WA players we targeted under our new considered strategy and we were likely desperate to make it work. It was a red flag that he elected to sit out an entire year of playing AFL football because he didn't get traded. McCarthy does not want an AFL career as badly as we all want him to, which is his own journey but it's just a shame for the rest of us who know he was the skill set.

I've gave up on him when I saw the instagram story he posted of him playing basketball with his shirt off. It blows my mind he produced that rig as a full-time athlete being paid to run 20+ km's a week and a couple of gym sessions. He still smokes cigarettes which is a cool thing for pro-athlete to do.

He's been given a one year deal and a new coach to impress, and he's taking up his allocated senior player leave to the full two weeks.

Pending a run of catastrophic injuries, I'm expecting him to play every game at Peel and I'm also expecting him not to be too bothered by that.

He's a non-entity.

If Hogan doesn't play for a while, you can guarantee he gets a game in his place. And he along with Lobb and Taberner is still a good forward line of talls.

Why not Lobb, Taberner and Cox?

Or why not Lobb, Taberner and Sturt? My understanding is that both Cox and Sturt are back training, Sturt in particular is back in good shape, fast and is skilled.

McCarthy gets singled out by being an easy target, I've said on here before the one year deal was a joke.
A warning, but now it also applies to Dixon, it appears Cox was told directly and he has turned it around.
Doesn't help that Hogan likes a smoke, but Ross was desperate for that contested forward.
Should of delisted McCarthy and drafted Sokol, forward line is full of talent but attitude?

Could I have a link to this infamous insta video I've heard about?

That was the picture I saw as well and just had enough. The dude doesn’t have it in him to be a professional athlete if that’s his rig after what, 5 years in an AFL system. Was honesty shocked

I’d swap him in a heartbeat for Sokol, someone who works hard on field for his opportunities, but unfortunately I don’t see how we can get him.

For McCarthy, he’s so fortunate to be given the opportunity to play Afl footy & he’s stuffing it up big time. He snuck under the radar at the start of his career at GWS, but now teams have worked him out.

He obviously has the talent & hopefully under a more attacking minded game style he will flourish & prove us all wrong, but I just don’t think he has the heart to compete week in week out & make the sacrifices required.

This has shades of early mj. During one of our games he was looking a bit tubby and the commentator made note of it. He instantly became the number one whipping boy on here for not caring and his pointing became a meme. Everyone piled on for the cheap laughs.

Two years later under a new coach and a settled roll he was all Australian.

If we truely are going to be an attacking team and he is allowed to play in his preferred position Cam will be fine. Around this time last year before the seniors were required back there were some vids circulating of him working out extremely hard with a personal trainer on his own.

Great post. Kepler and Crowls were others to suffer the wrath of the masses on here looking for cheap laughs and post likes.

I’m not a big fan of his but it’s mid November and the players are entitled to take their leave. Let’s start judging his “rig” in Feb eh?

I hear what you are saying, but that was 2011 when Johnson was already 27 and a proven AFL footballer (it was at the end of the season too after a long losing streak). Cam is 24 and has played one decent season, and it wasn't recently.

Don't get me wrong I really hope he makes it, love what he can do ball in hand, I just wouldnt be optimistic.

Personally don't rate Cox at all so he didn't really come into my mind, Sturt is possible depending how good of a pre-season he has.

Have any of our tall forwards had a decent season since pav?

McCarthy should of been rookied at least, you can see why Neale could be persuaded. Guys like Harley, Sherro,
Blakely, and the targeting of Hogan would have me asking questions.
Then Cox and Ryan chugging beers, something had to give.
Hogan drinking before last pre-season, they won't getaway from the press over here.
