Plenty of reasons to doubt:
Had a dream run with injuries
Very even competition with a number of 'better' teams finishing below us
No more Hodge
Out in straight sets when it got serious
Teams will put more planning into us now
Key forwards not coming on - too reliant on Cameron and Mids.
Because Melbourne and The Dogs

We can argue against any of the above, but they do have some merit.
Yes...easy for me to argue most...see below:

Had a dream run with injuries: So did several other teams, why didnt they finnish second or close?
Very even competition with a number of 'better' teams finishing below us: We also beat those teams to finnish above them on the ladder
No more Hodge: Hodge no longer on the ground, but has been coaching our KPF's now since November last year. How lucky are they?
Out in straight sets when it got serious: First experience in finals for more than 75% of our list. In saying that, now they all have finals experience.
Teams will put more planning into us now: As Fagan & Co will do to our opposition.....that doesnt change
Key forwards not coming on - too reliant on Cameron and Mids: Thats an opinion I dis-agree with. Highest scoring team in the competition speaks for itself.
Because Melbourne and The Dogs: Because? Is that an excuse or a total poor performance by both clubs that has nothing to do with our group of young, emerging, improving list?

Easy draw shits me, because no one's knocking Geelong over an "easy draw"... they had basically the same draw as us, except for a second game against Sydney instead of Gold Coast - so just a different and slightly better bottom team. Is that where the line between an easy draw and not is?

AGREE 100%

How many home games did Richmond get last season? And how many did they get at home leading up to the final season?

Now thats an easy draw IMO.

I agree with most of your post but not that opposition teams will put any more planning into us than they ordinarily would. I say that because footy clubs are highly professional outfits and I don’t think they’d put any more or any less work into one opponent over another. They would be remiss if they did but I doubt they do. Put another way, it would be highly unprofessional if they did and I’d consider it unacceptable if our match committee did.

The more I think about it, the more I feel a round 1 win is even more important. The premiership isn't won in week 1 of the season, but a young team needs early season momentum.

A round 1 win, a BIG one, is especially important in a leap year like this. In every leap year since 2000, the team on top of the ladder at the end of round 1 has gone on to win the premiership.

I would love us to be playing at that ground. It is a good boutique stadium which they get for a song and make a packet of money out of. Give me that over the Gabba any day of the week.

Capacity of Kardinia Park / Shell / Baytec / Skilled / Simons / GMHBA Stadium is a little on the low side for where our membership is heading :) would love that kind of commercial agreement with a stadium though, but I guess on the flip side, this year especially we do get some blockbuster games at our home venue. Geelong rarely get the big vic clubs playing at their stadium. They do get us there this year though, which they'll lose.

Geelong gets an easy draw every year. They play all the non big sides at their shitty home ground.

Yeah it so skews the top end of the comp, Geelong qualify for finals year after year even though they are just making up the numbers due to their 'joe the goose' home ground advantage. It's like the top 7 plus Geelong.

Answerth back, Robertson to debut, Skinner to play forward and ruck with Big O out. Cox and Hinge a chance to impress. What’s going on. No meltdowns, no Thursday night reaction, nada, nothing. Bit shocked with the silence. Go Lions!

Were a finals team now, we don't get stressed about preseason. Also I didn't realise it was already up yet.

Looks like O is still in on the extended bench going off the list on the afl app, but cey being omitted is a big surprise! Bloody stoked to see noah back where he should be though, starting in the back six. Also glad to see they're sticking with clugga in the guts and bails on the wing, see a lot of potential in that set up.

Link to the list I've seen below, let me know if there's a refined one floating around

Hard to melt over a 30 man squad
Ah yes, but only 26 on afl website with BigO, Starc, Payne, Witherden not making the cut. But who knows, maybe AFL.com cannot be relied upon. How about half a melt instead?
Edit: I was going off the match centre team which omits the last 4 players on Marsh teams list above. Clearly not reliable. 30 man squad it is.

CEY didn’t do enough against Port To cement a place in the midfield imo. Don’t think he’ll be playing rd 1 unless there’s injuries.

Certainly get the impression this year that the importance on pre-season games is much lower than last year.
More experimental and trialing new things and new people.
Last year was all about winning and momentum.
As long as the boys are ready for round 1, I don’t care.

Not sure about that. We seem to be playing our best team.

He wasn't great to be sure but you could still see the logic of what they were going for, so I figured they'd give it another run before pulling him. Still very happy to see that Dev might have the chance to get a run, very excited to see what the young man can produce

Might be the club wanting to see how we'd cope v someone like Cripps without CEY? I was very underwhelmed by his game against Port, but he wasn't the only one.

As with the first game all of the regulars are there but the fringe are different to the first game and I personally felt that the first game was less about winning as it was just a trial.
As is typically seen from the bigger clubs.
I do feel that we will see a lot more intensity from the boys this week though.

Alternatively perhaps the club is fine tuning the direction they think we'll go for round 1 vs Hawks. Horses for courses, and not seeing a need for him to play, not exactly a midfield full of beasts.
