Just my limited observations before Christmas.

At this stage Witherden had 2 years playing to Rayner 1
The training exercise was: run as fast and as far as you can until whistle blown. Short rest then turn around from your finishing position and repeat exercise.
The person who finished last (Rayner) gets that start. The person who won starts a very long way behind

Really tricky one for Witho. He can stick around. But he's hardly played this year and Fages doesn't chop and change much. He can take the fresh start on offer now, but if he stays and doesn't solidify himself in the team in 2021, it will be MUCH harder to get a deal at another club. Potentially career ending for him.

Like most here, I'd be keen for him to stay, but I really can't fault him for leaving.

Its 3.20am and i woke after a dream/nightmare about bodysnatching zombie scientologists. Beware the CCHR and Narcanon, they're the sneaky ones that will get ya. Usually i can enjoy a good scifi dream, ride along with it, im ok with zombies and bodysnatchers but scientology is really frightening.

Anyway theatans aside, i started thinking about list numbers and how it will affect the teams we will be able to put up in the new second tier competition. Im not real sure of the structure of the comp but if our list is 38 plus 4 A and B cat rookies that means we will have to play 2 academy kids always. If the firsts take 2 traveling emergencies that means 4 academy kids play. And that is if every listed player is fit. If our injury list blows out to say 10 players does that mean the seconds could have more than half the team being 16/17yr olds. Would we have that many academy kids to fill in? How then could we compete with the vic clubs vfl teams full of men ? How is this going to work ? If anyone has more of an idea of how it works please let me know.

Just to finish off facetiously, how about we trade Witho and Cox for Brendan Ah Chee and Jarrod Cameron

Doesn't surprise me at all. After pushing him out the door and announcing you'll pay some of his salary that teams will put him on the backburner and see if they can get it done late. The salary is gonna make it difficult though. How the heck can he go back to Pies after this treatment?

All AFL Reserves will have $100k to spend on top-ups, stand alone clubs have a salary cap of $200k.

On one hand, For Treloar, I feel very sorry for him in the situation he is in. It would be extremely hard for him to front up in January if a trade can’t be sorted.

On the other hand, For Collingwood, I say suck shit!
I hope they get lumped with his Full Salary and they go over the cap as a result and cop a basting from the AFL for it.

I suspect Rayner and the Big O have improved markedly since then. Not sure about CEY. Needs a big off season.

mmmmm possibly, possibly not. I expect the whole squad has improved.

It was noticeable that almost all the players had come back in good shape.

A couple of us actually commented on Witherden at the time, as he looked in really good shape. Just hadn’t put on any muscle.

Then one of the coaches said, alright run at your own pace, and he just took off. Within two laps he was half way around the oval and looked like he would lap Smith and Prior soon enough. But then they got called in to the field for match practice.

Don't really care about Pies. They've dug themselves into this hole. Just feel for Treloar. Hope someone comes in late to give him a decent home. Don't think he's the fit for us, though wouldn't complain, but it really is terrible treatment of a player and highlights what an absolute mess Pies cap management has been. Massive **** up.

I reckon he's just gauging off the running at training and maybe in Feb? Doesn't surprise me at all Rayner was trailing. if Big O really was tracking like that the what was he doing post match? Has he just been running on adrenaline at half dead during cool down while everyone's eating muesli bars and having ice baths? Massive effort. I know he wouldn't have expected to be number one ruck but he took it with both hands and seized it.

I doubt we’ll take that option.

In line with the new draft rules and NAB League, our academy has been extended to U19’s age group.

The academy recently announced our combined U19 and U18 squads for next year, with about 120 players.

We could easily play a dozen of our best 18 and 19 year olds in our reserves team for the whole season.
