Precisely.

Are you saying Cockatoo's current injury recovery is scheduled to extend past the start of next season? All I'm aware of is wrist surgery which would have him ready by pre-season.

Mine as well. Think Payne will really free Gardiner up to play third tall or on the dangerous medium forwards, Lester becomes a casualty this unfortunately.

I think we should only play 3 of Andrews, Payne, Gardiner and Answerth to play lockdown roles given they don't use the ball that well.

And then 4 of Rich, Starcevich, Birchall, Ah Chee and Witherden. The better ball users

I add Lester into that list as well.. Think he had a great season was good on Jack in the QF.
What happens if Adams can play a game :)
I hope Answerth works on disposal over pre season has the speed we need with Starc out of back 6.
Have feeling Starc play more mid minutes next year.

Yep true. Lester probably goes into the lockdown list with Adams given we played Andrews, Gardiner and Lester most weeks.

Think Witho is gone. Also not keen on Birchall and hope young guys who have a strong preseason and play well in the match sims are rewarded early in the season. Just my opinion but can't hold back Answerth or Payne because of Birchall.
I saw a number of preseason match sims earlier this year before COVID (seems so long ago) and I thought Skinner and Payne went well but did not get a crack until there was suspensions or injuries, which probably does not do a lot for the confidence of young guys.

Answerth and Payne are completely opposite players to Birchall. Both good defensively but horrible ball users while Birchall is horrible defensively but a good ball user.

Bit harsh on Andrews, his disposal efficiency and score launches are elite (stats wise) but granted he's no Rich.

Horrible is an exaggeration, especially for Payne. Payne is quite a good field kick - I'd have him ahead of Andrews in that regard. Answerth is average though.

Tidy kick but lacking penetration and slow to dispose of the ball. Disposal efficiency doesn't mean much

IMO Payne's disposal overall was quite good in his games played this season.

Few loopy kicks which Payne needs to get out of his system

They can't all kick like Josh Drummond or Sam Mitchell jack.

That's kind of my point.

Need to get the balance right down back between lockdown defenders who might not be great kicks and good ball users who we'll want to free up to set up play

You would think the coaches and Answerth would know his disposal is something that needs to be worked on so l would expect a big pre-season working on kicking efficiency. Looked like he was just trying to bang it as long and far away from the def 50 as possible. Which is okay sometimes, but at the elite level and if he wants to be in the premiership challenging team then he does need to fix it up so he isn't as bad. Have high hopes on him, really, really good lock down player and has just started to add his offensive game

Pretty good not sure we go Dizzy, Andrews, Payne and Lester.
I swap Birchall/Answerth for either Payne/Lester
Which is personally why I think the club only contracts Lester for 1 year.

Stef being interviewed on Trade Radio, he was told in his exit interview by Fages and Noble that our preferred ruck setup next year will be 1 main ruck and he realizes that the Big O has gone past him.

Stef did sound a bit sad to be leaving us, told the boys jokingly they better not win a flag without him.
