The departure of Stefan Martin will mean Oscar McInerney (RUC, $550,000) will be the No.1 and likely sole ruckman for the Lions. When rucking solo, Big O averaged 68 points (85 adjusted) which ranks him in the top 10 of available rucks based on last year's numbers for someone whose average is equivalent to the 18th best.

blame DT talk pumping him up

also averaged 99 in finals

they need to not leak it
Is he better value than Preuss though?

If you aren't selecting Gawn, Grundy or O'Brien then you are selecting for value. On value, Preuss is priced at around 49, with most expecting he will end up around 75-80 putting him around 30 points under-priced. McInerney is priced at 71, so in order to be the same value as Preuss he'd have to average 100, which I dont think he will.

Also, if going McInerney over Preuss (~170k) then you need to find a alternative 370k player somewhere else on the ground capable of hitting 80, and I dont think there are any of those around (Franklin won't play R1). On the other hand if going Preuss, then you need to find an alternative 550k player capable of hitting 90+, of which there are a few more options.

how I see it
McInery and Young
or
Preuss and Heppell knowing he'll be backman in R6

This is what I had at start of week (McInerney back to Preuss) which means I can have T.Green @ M7 instead of Powell (Will Phillips M8 but can easily swap whichever Nth rookie gets a game)
4 rookies on field.
Wehr, Phillips,Campbell & Rowe.

ROB still at R1 but have spare $ to get Grundy if I decide to.

except that Preuss has never played more than how many consecutive AFL games ??? Two or three ???

but never been injured which helps

only worry is the first 4 games are going to be brutal be happy with 70s

just screams “rested at a really inappropriate time” to me....

I don't particularly want Preuss, but I don't like the rest of my side without him so it seems a safe enough cash/points gamble rather than having more rookies (which at this point, seem thin)

I hear ya mate, but when has a strategy that made life easier actually worked in this game ???

Not going to happen to the same side twice in a row ???
lord you hope not but we are talking to about the same coach who dropped his captain, not drafting or picking any small forwards and jamming midfielders into those holes, drafting inside mid after inside mid. I mean the club has rocks for brains

Mumford couldn't move last year

Yeh it was only rounds 9-15 where he played as the sole ruck really (Even then Tom Fullarton played in 2 of those games aswell).

He got a bit injured in round 9 vs dons. So really from 5 games (Rounds 10-15) he avg 71 so thats 88/89 with game time adjusted.

You starting him in the ruck?

I wouldve picked him if he was still a forward. I feel he still should be categorised as a fwd.

Hes still very much worth considering as a ruck.

yes, at this stage - but will be watching the pre-season form a bit as well. If he was R/F - that would have been a dream combo with Marshall in the Fwds...

Wasn't having a bar of Gawn at 950k until I saw Melbourne's fixture to kick off the season. He'll face Freo (Darcy), Saints (Ryder), GWS (Mummy/Flynn?), Geelong (Stanley) and Hawks (Ceglar) in his first 5 games...

Still want to start with a mid priced option at R2 due to Gawn's outrageous price tag but not sure if I can now

needs to go at 124 to not drop points

Darcy is also in doubt in for R1

He also won't be able to play 93 percent game time this year and if he dropped back to 2019 TOG he is 10 points over priced

It's a really tough call given that start to the year. Given he does need to average 124 to hold his price (approx. As the magic number does change week to week as we saw last year) it does seem a bit too far. But peace of mind of knowing that you've got a guy there going most likely an easy 110 over those weeks is the beauty of it.

Normally I'm the guy who looks for value in every pick bar maybe one capt. option, premos who can improve by say 5ppg at a min. Grundy is probably that capt. guy this year in my opinion, even though maybe slightly underpriced he's still at 114. So going with Max who I'm certain will drop in average over the year is not something I'd traditionally do, but at the same time it's very tempting.

Other guys for me who I'll look more into at the moment are Nankervis, Big O, Draper, ROB.

Last season was a sizeable scoring jump across all formats in contrast to his previous two seasons. In 2018 & 2019 his averages were comparable to each other. Now 2020 has a jump of 12 points per game (adjusted) in AFLFantasy and SuperCoach. Because of the condensed style of scoring across formats, some might believe that to pick Gawn in starting squads your actually overpaying.
