Cant see it happening if it doesnt happen around 2025, I can see Gutwein cancelling the AFL contracts and putting money into the new basketball team the Jackjumpers and putting in any other sports funding to soccer. Aussie rules will continue its slow death in Tasmania and by 2030 I can see most clubs folding. Football death as we know it.

Calling their side the Jack Jumpers should get them banned from having their own AFL side. What the **** is a Jack Jumper and why is the grasshopper a mascot? It makes me think of the Tasmanian Crack Junkies and they have a locust as a mascot. It's a shocker. At least if they move a team there they won't have naming rights I guess.

I am a Balmain supporter and then we merged with Wests.
Even though the Wests Tigers have won a premiership it’s not the same.

I had Sydney mates back in the 90s who got me onto the Tigers and followed them in a half arsed way. I then half arsed followed St George because of the Saints and they merged. I've stayed away since. I'm bad for buisness.

this club is part of my life, part of who i am. i truely do think i bleed RWB. i been to hell with this club, and this club has been there for me when i went through hell myself.

If we do get relocated, i’d honestly not know how to react. i won’t be able to handle it one bit.
I can't obviously tell you what's going to happen tomorrow let alone it in years ahead.....but I'll tell you one thing....we ain't going anywhere !!!!!!!

After spending so much money redeveloping Moorabbin I can't see us relocating, if any Vic club is going to relocate it would probably be North.

North have Zero debt

Yeah but they have the smallest supporter base out of all the Vic clubs and the smallest zone to draw new supporters from.

I don't want to see them relocate either though as it would suck for their supporters just like it would suck for our supporters.

i actually don't think i would care. as long as the club exists and we dont go into a merger.

19th team makes the most sense.

18 games over 22 or 23 rounds - Play everyone once, 9 home & 9 away. Reverse fixture the following year.

If you sell a home game then you rotate through opponents eg Freo dont travel to Ballarat for every Dogs home game.

Top 10 play finals.

People will say less games overall but with byes every week it will open up the flexibility of playing the marquee games in the prime time spots more often.

Everyone's a winner.

That will never happen because the AFL knows how much money the actual marquee games make - a lot more than a random Freo vs GC would.

I'd prefer to see a Tassie standalone team rather than a relocated one but it would lead to a further dilution of talent, it's already been spread thin with the addition of GWS and Gold Coast with those clubs soaking up a lot of the best young talent and weakening other clubs.

If we can have 18 AFLW teams surely there's enough talent for 19 AFL teams.

Pity this has come along at a time when Melbourne are doing okay otherwise they could've relocated and changed their name to the Van Demons.

My gut feeling is that Hawthorn play 4/5 games a year down there.

still called Hawthorn.Still wearing poos and Wees.

but known as the “Tassie” Hawks to the state.
Hawthorn will see the potential benefits let’s not forget they almost merged with melbourne. They’ll be back rattling cans if they have a failed rebuild and ten years in the bottom half and they know it. The problem they face is tasmania are determined not to get played, it’s going to be their team or nothing.

Imo the AFL are kidding themselves persisting with the suns, everybody knows it. Give it another 5 years and a change of leadership and opinions may change.

There has been a lot of talk recently about an AFL team relocating to Tasmania. Anyone heard anything on this? I can’t help but imagine we’ll be under the spotlight but I honestly think that would be just straight up stupid. It would have to be a Victoria team though… and apparently the recommendation has been that the competition shouldn’t add a 19th team.

Personally I think it should be North - but that’s just because I don’t want it to be Saints and they’re an easy target. Would suck for any fan base to have their team relocated to another state. I know it’s happened in the past but just doesn’t seem right!

Logic says it would be either of the teams that already have a presence in the state.
Remember, Kennett has already speculated about the Hawks relocating there.
(Maybe simply for the sake of hearing himself speak).
But I see that the proposal is for some time in the future, and thus the Tasmanian Premier is now threatening to pull the plug on all AFL games in Tasmania.
Whatever happens, you wouldn’t want to be investing $130mill on a reclaimed tip in Dingley just as you lose $4mill pa in pocket money. 😂😂😂

They won't kill a club is what I'm saying. They won't send anyone there it will be an extra license if it happens at all.

Tassie has already said they don’t want a “share” team.
Hope they stick to their guns.
(And let’s hope we’re at the top end of the ladder when it occurs this time so we are not disadvantaged again by all the draft concessions they’ll get.)

Having an odd amount of teams is crap. If a 19th team is added, then a 20th team also needs to come in.

Should have been an NT venture, the Suns.

Can still play in QLD, has ties to Tiwi, NT and PNG as native NT venture, rando games at TIO when thigns allow and redevelopment for general area as you know, giving a shit about nation and hey presto, actual national comp in earnest.

Then at this juncture with Tassie it's 19th team and full national comp AFL wise to then physically grow game in all regions and make a Vic team shedding elsewhere for that true second team or other team in rando state slightly more palatable.

Of course, AFL has already lost me ages ago, regardless who heads that beast. If you literally killed it, clubs would be fine on their own and game would largely be better for it.
