DRAFT ANALYSIS: “A high production midfielder who also offers the best combination of contested ball-winning, reliable kicking and acceleration in this draft.”

Smith’s big tank is widely recognised as one of his greatest strengths. His endurance became a clear feature of his game last year, running all day and finding the football with ease. Combining this with his ability to win the ball on the inside, though, is what really sets Smith apart from fellow midfield prospects. It’s a rarity that a player is known for both contested ball-winning and endurance, but it’s a blend that makes Smith arguably the most complete midfielder in this year’s draft pool.

Strong bolded statement above considering Walsh went #1. Many are happy to back Walsh in this season to break out and are buying his stock.

Bailey Smith with 2% ownership.

Had an injury impacted game last season that if removed boosts his average to around 97. Walsh went 101 last year.

They had a guy called Adam Treloar just rock up and Dunkley will be fit this year.
I think he gets pushed to a wing role but would consider on a less loaded team. Walsh has way more opportunity to shine

How much mid or even wing time is Smith getting ahead of Bont, Macrae, Dunkley, Treloar, Libba, Hunter? My guess is **** all. Wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.

Pretty happy to run with this setup. I see value in the tier of midfielders just below the out and out guns which is why im selecting all of Walsh, Cripps, Rowell and Simpkin. I'll be happy if 3 of 4 increase their average by 10-15+ points. I'm not completely set on Neale but i do want a decent M1 for some 'stability' and hopefully can lock in a 120+ average. Thus, I'll probably look at Oliver or Steele if not Neale. I'm bullish on Hately and Rowell so they wont change assuming they are fit for round 1 (touch wood). Cripps is probably the one to go if i decide i need more cash for elsewhere or if i find the cash he may be upgraded.

You’ve got your 3 heavy hitters with the same bye round

Dunkley wants to leave. Not sure why they'd be playing Dunks wherever he pleases after his last offseason.

Baz Smith plays for the dogs but

Dogs mids wax with each other and aren't impacted by other's scoring.

Just last season ...

Macrae 121
Bont 116
Hunter 115
Libba 106
Dunks 104

I'd argue that being a midfielder at the Dogs actually helps scoring.

I’d be wary on Sidebum, no Treloar now, Pendles being 33, Adams being the grunt work on the inside, we really don’t have anyone else who should garner attention in terms of a tag (possibly Daicos but not consistent enough yet)
I think Sidey will get worked over all year. He’ll have his big games but he’s also gonna have some horrid ones. Gets beaten a lot with a tag too.
Can easily get him 100k cheaper down the line imo

I'd have a dollar on him for the Anzac Day medal this year, if I was a betting man.

I agree that he is susceptible to a tag, but not that many teams even bother. And he can go forward to beat it. Also, Jordy may end up drawing the most heat...

And the year before they had 3 of the top 4 SC Mids

Smith got pushed out in the latter half of 2020 with everyone fit.
How's he supposed to perform with treolar in the side?
No wonder his ownership is only 2%. Its the nuffies who are picking him.

I'd argue that he was fairly consistent throughout the year and it was Dunkley who was pushed out.

Def trailed off near the end though, and they've added another mid to their mix. Good luck picking him, I know I wont be.

Any news or updates on Tim Taranto? The blokes been a ghost so far in the pre season...

Yes he joined my team in late December so is unavailable.;)

I wonder if ward will get games this year

Ward will be a fringe player I'd say and when he does play I don't think he'd start in the middle too often.

Dunks is actually happy right now, him and Treloar are spending alot of time together and from what i've heard he is actually super excited to play this year....especially with the inclusion of Stef Martin to add to the rucks, Dunks wont be taking any part in the ruck work anymore lol....Bevs knew that was one of the big issues he had last year and Dunks wasn't happy with it.

The midfield is indeed SUPER stacked now, hard to see who will score best, i mean someone has to suffer now with Treloar coming in but who? I mean maybe Bont will spend more time up forward now? or Macrae will play perma wing now along side hunter/smith.....it's hard to say.

Have to wait to see how the team lines up in the pre season cup....we will get a good idea then, im just unsure who i want out of Bont/Macrae/Treloar in the mids....im contemplating taking least 2 right now, i mean last year i had 3 dog mids and it was a master move afterall since all 3 ended up averaging over the 105 mark.
