Are those your only non-playing rookies?

If so, surely your two trades could be better used to upgrade somewhere else? Two DNPs is not a disaster, and could wait for later.

If you have others as well and need to strengthen your bench for cover/cash generation, then the two trades you suggest would appear to among the better options available at the moment (depending on team announcements as always).

More or less yeah. Highmore, Meek, Robinson, Flynn were my non-playing last round. Flynn comes back. Robinson I'll hold for a while yet.
Highmore/Meek the only guys I would consider true dead weight.

I'm just a bit weary given I'm running 7 rookies on field atm and could become 8x with my planned trades (Jones, Gulden, Powell, Jordan, Campbell, Warner, Bergman, Macrae). If any of them cop a rest or dropped then my depth is non existent (as I'm sure no ones is).

My playing emergencies:
Def: Burgess
Mid: Scott/Berry
Ruck: Flynn
Fwd: Rowe.

Essentially if anyone gets rested I'm copping a 30-40score.

Will take it day by day/week by week as always but if I can't atleast guarantee one green light in every line (except ruck) then I'll have to prioritize bench trades.

I have 9 players under 300K in my team. 4 x DNP last week, however Flynn should definitely come back in this week and Brockman is also a chance. Depending on McInerney's injury at Brisbane, even Fullarton might be a chance. This leaves Meek as my only one showing zero signs of life, and he's already down as my first trade this week.

As much as the normal plan is to have zero rookies on your field by the end of the byes, it very rarely works out that way. There are always new speedhumps popping up such as injuries which will derail your plans. Personally, if I can add one premo every two weeks and one for each bye week, I'm pretty happy with the result.

For me, that would mean having 17 premos at the end of the byes.

Agree with this. At least for the moment my stance is to target genuine premiums rather than the cheaper riskier picks (Heppell/Cunnington/Ward) to "finish" my team.
If rookies start getting dropped I'll probably be forced to go there, but until then its guns n rooks.

Even with the news of Flynn being back in going to go P Hunter to Gawn and Phillips to F Macrae.

If by some miracle I have no forced trades next week will be able to ship off Clark and Atkins to Crisp/Trel/Crouch and a rook, whilst bringing Ridley back on field.

Would agree with most of that, but, also think if you play your cards right and don't just try and get all the 'uber premos', that you can pretty much have close to 19 or 20 by the time you exit the byes.

The way I see premos is, is basically anyone 600K or above - or those who have been over 600K at one point, but have fallen below.

For example if you were to pick up say Treloar, Brouch, Daniel, Houston, Hall (I think he'll be a premo based on his role I've seen already) Ridley, Cerra and maybe Ward, you might end up spending around 5 MIL for 8 guys who should score an 80 at least every week at a cost of around 5 MIL or an average of around 625K per player.

To get to that over the next 8 weeks - and with the double down/up you can do over the byes - you could probably trade out a maxed out Gulden, Warner, Powell (all likely to be around 500-550K), Flynn (500-550K if he plays enough games over the next 6 weeks), Fantasia 470K, Phillips, will probably be around 570K come end of this round, Tex (650-660K likely his max after this weekend), Cox 450K likely his max, Jordon (420-450K depending on his role over the next few weeks/if he keeps his spot), Bergman (400K likely if he keeps his spot and continues on this trajectory).

Just those common players, will net you the cash needed to get to all of the aforementioned at their bottomed out prices - will only cost you 9 trades out of a possible 21 trades from Round 7 to end of Round 14. Those other trades should be enough to perform the downgrades needed from the rooks, and have a few spare to fix up forced outs/failed rooks over that time.

TL; DR, 17 to me would be absolute minimum, and realistically if you play your cards right and really plan it out, there's a fair chance you can exit the byes with a near full contingent - plus guys like Hind or Sholl who could go from midpricers you already have and become D6/M8/D6 premos - to really make an assault on the Top 100, in the final 9 rounds of the season :)

Thoughts on Bergman's JS? And also McCreery's?

Was considering bringing Bergman back in this week, ahead of FMacrae (who I'd target next week when his BE comes down even further) or McCreery.

I've already traded-out Berg once (after Rd2 when he was first dropped, which I now regret). Even with the injuries at Port, they have SPP and maybe Rocky that could come back within a fortnight. It would sting if he only managed another week or two in my team, and I had to spend 3 trades on him!

So is it worth just bypassing Bergman completely - maybe grab McCreery this week and FMac next week? Or just grab FMac now?

...And I think I've just convinced myself to pass on Berg now
Mcreery JS seems good considering there’s no Elliot or Ruscoe and injuries continue to pile up for Pies. I think Bergman will score better though and currently has ok JS while Port are missing a few of their brigade

Soooooo..... who else is completely screwed if this is the weekend that the popular rookies start getting rested?

Basically the entire comp, haha. That's the beauty of having popular rookies - everyone has them. Provided you have some form of cover, it can actually be a good way to make ground on others, as it evens things out a bit/brings your entire squad into play :)

You make it sound so easy.
This is the kind of reassurance I come here for haha.
I keep forgetting there's nearly 10 rounds of footy till the byes.

Yep. Could be carnage.
Jones ankle niggle. Bergman never safe. Campbell and Jordan look like they need a spell. Scott is always a game away from getting dropped.

Probably one to think about is where to lock in Scott. Whether it's on the field or as an emergency (assuming he plays at all).

I might even take the punt and field him over Campbell this week.. just to lock in a player on the field.

Hoping to loop Scott if he scores decent enough on Friday night.
Should be easy enough if Dev isn't picked again.

Really hope most took my advice and waited a week on Danger...

Won't play this week as a certainty, and could be out for the next two months with a syndesmosis injury requiring surgery at worst

I did that a few weeks back and ended up with Berry's 20 on field and Powells 91 on the bench or something....

didn't go well....

I changed mind at last minute and avoided WaynesWorld19 advice.

This week I'm currently following his advice of Oliver so I should abort before Oliver does a knee or cops a 4 week ban. :drunk:

Some very good thoughts there.

I'm not sold on Hall, and Helmets scare me. Treloar, Brouch and Houston are all possible targets.

I've already got rid of Fanta and Phillips will either go this week or next... the game in Tassie vs Adelaide may still get him a decent score.

Have never had Tex or Cox, so have missed the boat on them, and Bergman will be coming in this week if I decide to keep Phillips.

Have had Hind from the start, but Sholl is a possibility.

Other targets at the moment are Titch, Ziebell, Lloyd, Crisp, Doch, Oliver, Petracca, and Steele.

They should sort out DEF and MID. I started with Gawndy, and have Flynn at R3, so Ruck is good. FWD is the biggest concern... I have Dunkley and want Ziebell. After that you only have Tex averaging over 100 and it's slim pickings from there... Zorko maybe, then it's guys like Dusty, Impey, Dale etc that really don't inspire confidence. FWD might just have to wait for now and see if anyone starts being consistent.
