Tbh if Neale goes now it's club driven not Lachie driven and would be on the back of an offer of serious overs by Freo.

Agree 100%. Could be a good thing!

Bring in a free agent for free as a replacement, or even mitchell (who will be a late first round pick) bank two first round picks including at least one top ten pick (6) and fix the speed issues in the middle.

Personally I’m not against it.

I'd rather Neale at the club, but happy to back the club in.

Can’t possible be serious.

I'd make that trade.

As far as opposition trade scenarios, I don't think we can accuse brutus76 of being unreasonable here.

14+18+50 for 11+2022R1. That's 2 late first rounders and a 3rd rounder for a mid-first rounder and a likely mid-first rounder. Certainly not ripping us off...

I think the criticism is more likely coming from people suggesting that we don't need 2022 first rounders. That's only somewhat correct. There's nothing wrong with us holding 2022 first rounders. We may trade them down a bit for points before the 2022 draft, but they're still currency, and we have this draft and next trade period to cash in the currency for something else we want at the time.

I'll be slapping $100 immediately on Essendon to win the 2022 flag if this happens.

I can guarantee that anyone on here who says they know for certain are almost definitely lying. I think when he re-signed for two years, most of us assumed he traded off a higher salary for more security. I also doubt he's on the actual minimum, but I can't see how he'd be on anything above the average for example.

Purchased a house in Queensland for his parents and collects old cars. Out where he brought the house land blocks are large so I guess thats where the cars are going. I a fan of Math the block, even since he got in a dust up in his first practice match for the Lions when Rocky tried to find out what he was about. Not the most talented footballer but I go to war with him any way. Yep his is a bit hypo but you need one of those around the team. I'm glad we kept him, he is a good fill in and wont get de-motivated being that.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Neale traded this trade period.

That is not based on anything other than my own gut. Games within games…
If that's the case I'd add that the optics will strongly be that the club initiated it for Lachie and Jules' wellbeing yadda, yadda to take the sting out of tail in public perception of Lachie.

Unless he does a Beams on us and then

Based on absolutely nothing, it feels like that's come from Neale's camp.
Yeah it does make you wonder with all the latest commentary if we are more receptive to the idea, more so than the other way around.

If Freo ponied up with a good deal and we asked the question of Lachie I’m sure he wouldn’t dismiss it, especially now that the baby has arrived too.

Won’t believe it’s completely dead in the water until next Wednesday night.

People writing off Matho need to have a look at the improvement he has made at reserves level over the last few years. He is genuinely a dominant player at VFL level. His skills are actually very solid and he is very dangerous going forward. To date he has not been able to convert this form to the AFL but if he gets his confidence up and takes his time a bit more he might still become a very solid AFL level player. Admittedly you would probably bet against him but there has been improvement in his game this year and if he takes another step he could easily be a very good squad player.

At worst he should be a valuable veteran leader of the new midfield group that is going to be joining the club over the next two years.

In pre season intraclubs when the likes of Neale and Zorko were not playing due to injury he was combining very well with McCarthy and AhChee in the middle of the ground. Really good quick hands in close to get it to the outside for them to use some space.

Lachie seems too classy to do a dayne beams and say he is staying then leave. Doubt the club would be pushing the issue. We're in a window and that could shut very quickly

I think that if it happens it won't be a Dayne Beams situation.

It would be if it was amicable situation where it suited both parties to part ways.

It even could be the case that both parties agreed - he would recommit to the club quickly so as to take all pressure if he and Jules, but that the club would 'look at options' to facilitate a trade if it worked out, if not - they are happy to stay.

So, couple of so called football journalists are having a chin wag in gibberish about the trade period and discuss how this year's is boring as batshit. No big names discussed, so how do we create some controversy and get some click bait happening? Hang on, let's get Neale's name out there again.

Sam McClure is the least credible journo working in football. He has been found out and exposed many times that he makes up stories and plain lies about it. How that bloke keeps his job is another story. Anyhow back to watching grass grow in my back yard.

I strongly disagree with this. Yes, they get some wrong, but 90% of trades and big moves leak through journos before the club or player announces it. Dismissing their murmurings as 'click bait' is off the mark, they are all very well connected and have sources at most clubs.

I think Sam would be well informed that the Neale trade is not 'dead in the water'.. and that is probably the truth of the matter.

Its unlikely but the door is completely shut.

“They had to bring in Jack Payne so it says to me their depth is an issue in the finals series”.

What does this mean??

He thinks Payne is a last option type?

Haven't caught up on this whole thread yet but I was listening live and he actually said Jackson Payne so could have genuinely thought it was Jackson Paine... Insight for the ages from M Lloyd!

Also quite funny the article corrected it without mention. Would have loved a "Jackson (sic) Payne" in there as a pointed edit!

Whatever the situation with Lachie he's here with a contract so if someone else wants him and he wants to go they need to cough up.

I do remember Fagan saying when the news broke that if he was Lachie he'd be looking at what the best options were for his wife and family in this covid era.

Just my personal view that you don't let your best player go when you're in a premiership window unless there's no other choices. And I believe he has a lot of great footy in front of him.

This morning they had Payne possibly coming in for Gardner. Pretty fair argument actually.

But I did wonder why we gave Lyons another 3 years and Matho 2.

Some would say well deserved I suppose. Erring on the side of generous.

General consensus on this board is that we are missing a big bodied explosive mid - throw the kitchen sink at O’meara this trade period if that’s the missing link. In the right team he is an absolute weapon and we have the picks to get it done. Hawks seem open to the idea as well.

Any interest in 10 and our future second for 14 and 18?

I wouldn't personally. The future second would probably be chewed up for points, so giving up 18 to move up 4 spots doesn't really make a lot of sense unless someone we ranked super highly slid to 10.

Given the reported evenness of the draft from 5-20 or so, the same reason why WC would look to do the trade would be same reason why Brisbane wouldn't do it.

Not sure 10 is much of an upgrade but if the Lions have someone in mind there could be a chance. We do need to bank some points for next year so if we got a player we were chasing and some points there is some chance. I would not bet on it though we seem content to take both picks to the draft.
