Hawks are trying to top up for picks. So they won't let anyone go for low picks, otherwise may as well keep them.

I agree he'd be useful for us (medical required). We'd need them to pay part of his salary though, so you'd probably end up with something like:

JOM + pay all bar $200k of JOM's salary for the remainder of the contract = ?

For that much, they'd probably be looking for at least one of our first rounders.
They would likely want 2 and give something back.

He is a gun at his best.

And been reasonably durable at the hawks.

But how could you trust those knees? I'd be intrigued to attend one of these infamous 'medicals'. It's not so much if a player can run but if they feel any pain. In other words, an honesty policy!

I know its pie in the sky and not within our reach - but Omera would be perfect for our midfield mix. You would proably get him for a late pick. It's a shame we don't have cap space, given that op to bolster our midfield.

On another note, if Cegler to Hawks goes through then I'd say that is as good as Fort to the Lions going through too. I reckon he is our man unless there is a bolt from the blue.
Is O’Meara really that impactful? When he first came into the league it looked like he was the next big thing but at this stage Lyons is better than him in his role.

Danny Daly on radio now with Dwayne. Key points:
- Fort is the main priority, Cox/Casboult etc are unlikely (I believe that’s because we are pretty confident Fort is coming in); keen on the 2 ruck set up;
- Haven’t heard from Hawthorn about any players etc;
- Lachie 100% staying, could not be more categorical;
- We want to take both pick 14 and 18 to the draft as the high end of the draft has been ignored for a few years;
- The 3 boys still out of contract will be told after the trade period what’s happening with them.

Seems sensible and what I would've expected.

I wonder what Sam Powell-Pepper would be on? Has exactly the burst / strength we are missing from the midfield. Wants more midfield time wherever he goes. Presumably on something like 400k so a fantasy really. Out Mathieson, in SPP would be a real win for the list. Anyway, clearly i'm bored

Well, I'd imagine that for a medical examination, it's more than just "have a run and tell us how you're feeling". It might involve, y'know, a medical examination. Doctors can measure cartilage thickness, do flex tests, scan past surgeries for any inflammation or scarring... all sorts of stuff depending on what his problems are.

Hawks will eventually realise that the days of other clubs paying overs for their discards are over, especially in the era of tight salary caps. JOM and Mitchell aren't worth now what they once were. Even as recently as last year.

Lane is as good a player as English? A bloke who nearly played in a premiership? It maybe, god forbid, be a season long emergency if something happened to O. We need another plan.

In the ruck contest. English is very good around the ground but in the ruck contest he is very ordinary. I think Lane could provide as much influence in the ruck contest as English. Admittedly he would be a long way behind around the ground but in that area I think he would be likely midtable for a ruck around the ground.

Kenny doesn't rate SPP as a midfielder, which is why he's gettable. Flukey player that will probably never reach his potential. The 'burst' happens when he's near goal but not anywhere else that I've observed.

Aside from that sounds like a bit of a douche going by what happened in an Adelaide club a few years back

You would be paying more money for a VFL player who does not provide the cultural advantages that Mathieson does.

Cockatoo is a similar type of player who has more upside if he can get truly fit.

The whole thing stinks of Freo trying to go behind everyone’s back only for it to blow up in their face.

I think either Freo were trying to corner Neale into making a decision openly or the family was leaking it to sow the seeds in preparation for the move. Might have given Freo more leverage/upperhand in discussions as well as assurance that this is indeed happening. I suspect no one was prepared for the circus that followed.

If we could get a gun/burst midfielder who would definitely improve us then obviously if we could afford it we'd be going for it but I don't see O'Meara or SPP being any great improvement on what we have with expected improvement of those on our list.

On the two ruck set up I wonder if that is still with Hippy in the team. Fort on the bench rotating with Ruck and Forwards. Therefore Hippy's spot (before he returns) is a flexible sport depending who is available and who we play. Could be another tall like Fullarton, Payne or Lester or a medium/small player.

Pfft. We're hardly going to win trade week if that's all we're doing.

Because you know, it's all about who 'WINS' trade week.

Actual footage of Jon Ralph when he listened to Danny Daly's update and realised we're not backending a contract & using a list spot for Gunston.

I'm relaxed with Fort / Ceglar / Briggs. Only one that would worry me if we give a first rounder away for Ceglar, even if there is something coming back. Have to keep 2 in first round this year.

I am not a draft watcher but I would lean towards best 2 mids with our first two picks. If you add in Ashcroft next year, and Fletcher, we can keep up a reasonable quota of mids.

What does everyone think the mids quota should be? I work by 7 in the 1s, 7 in the 2s. That gives you 14 which translates to about a third of your list, slightly more when you factor in rucks. That feels about right but given mids get all the glory, do we need more than that?

I would anticipate after next year's draft we would have:

3 Veterans: Lyons, Neale, Zorko (if still playing mid)
7 with Medium experience: McCluggage, Berry, Rayner, Bailey, Starcevich, Robertson, Mathieson.
6 Emerging: Ashcroft, Pick 14, Sharpe, Prior, possibly pick 18, possibly Fletcher.
4 De-listed: Ely Smith, Joyce, CEY, M Robinson.
From your list, I’d have Zorko playing mostly as forward flanker and part of the forward 7 starting 22.

I wouldn’t include Starcevich or Prior as mids, as I believe both belong in the defensive 7 starting 22.

You forgot about Tom Berry. Keep or delist?

Butches the ball by foot. Probably worse than Matho by foot.

Agree. Lyon was exactly the guy I thought of. Im sure Hawks fans will sell him as at least the equivalent of Lyon. Either way it's not really what we are looking for. Would rather give more time to Rayner, Bailey and Clugga and use a first round pick on another kid, to help spread the talent and age profile.
