Myth. At no time this year has Martin looked dangerous starting in the midfield.

He's a quality player that can be seen to make good anywhere at times, but his best is playing forward where he spooks the opposition and manufactures plenty from little opportunity.

In your opinion of course

Just like before he played a game in blue, where you claimed he would be based purely inside forward 50

Myth, again

He was brilliant in the Geelong game

Martin, Williams, Saad .....and Papley.
I know we got Kemp and Philp instead of Papley in the end and that made for a great outcome, but Papley would have made us so much stronger.

I don't care as much for adding volumes of talent, as much as adding the right talent and Papley would have been a magnificent get, had Essendon taken on the two first rounders on offer last year.

Keep holding that candle for Coleman Papley,

Martin's influence, ALL OVER THE GROUND

You want two of him, one in forward 50, the other delivering it to the forwards

Split his time 50/50

When he plays midfield IMHO he has a real impact around the ball and contest, is physical, tackles hard and adds another dimension to a midfield that lacks a dynamic edge. I’d love to see Williams and Martin rotate forward / mid in unison. Having one of these two in the bubble really changes up our midfield mix and we need it badly as setters, Curnow and Cripps are all very one paced.

Spot on, exactly what I want to see too, Williams changing with Martin.

Both deliver the ball beautifully inside 50, both are dangerous when resting forward

I remember him being quite damaging, burst speed in particular, when in the midfield. Pretty hard at it too. Just couldn’t/didn’t stay there very long.

Hawthorn game is a good example, Jack Martin marks it right on siren, Cripps calls for it, even though Jack Martin far better at straight shot, Cripps misses, crucial part of the game too.

Another one in same game tries to take on like 5 people at once by himself and doesn't work, REALLY need him to make those captain goals from straight shots, missed more than a few this year, which one would hopefully chalk up to injuries, but he's never be good at shooting for goal unless its those crazy one the run goals.

Takes a great pack mark, but straight shots are very poor, so not entirely sure what the point is of his weight loss in order to run more, but time will tell.

Hope he has a good 2021 and gets that first Brownlow but ffs that kicking accuracy in times of great need for that captain's goal to inspire the team.

Would be lying if I said I didn’t yell at my tv on the Jack Martin one, that was a horrible decision!!

I can't remember which one of the coaches said it in their press conference, but Martin will be getting more midfield minutes in 2021. He will be rotating through the guts while Williams provides some spark in the forward line.

I really hope we start doing the same with Murphy too. Give him some time on-ball/on the wing, but rest him up forward to let someone like Gibbons play more time in the midfield.

Pretty ineffective from what I saw.
Took that one game off Murphy early in the season after Murphy floundered and rarely used thereafter, along with Gibbons, Cuningham.
Had a total of 7 centre square clearances for the year.....Simpson had 4, Gibbons 3 and even Docherty had 1.

Same thing will come about as per most years; 4 or 5 get the most activity and others filter through as required thereafter, dependent on injuries, rotations etc
Cripps, Setterfield, Williams, ECurnow and Walsh will likely be the most used, other than ruckmen.

Would be nice to see a Dow or Stocker involved a lot more heavily though, but that's up to them. They have the ability and the tricks.

He played one game in the centre. One game.
Not saying he's not capable, but he's simply more capable elsewhere.

It's a weird thing how desperate some posters are to see players that have plied their trade elsewhere, used in the centre;
Martin, Docherty, JSilvagni, CCurnow etc etc when we can't even get our genuine midfielders utilised through the midfield; Fisher, SPS, Dow etc.

Martin reminds me a lot of a better version of Rioli from Richmond. Looks a million bucks but most of the year actually has very little impact. Has so much class and talent so hopefully it all clicks for him and he could be a legit A grade HF who gives that chop out a couple of times a game in the midfield. It’s strange because the effort is there so I’m just not sure why it hasn’t really clicked for him.

both players have some unique weapons in the toolkit, will be exciting to watch in 21.

This highlights package is literally parked in our forward half. There is one passage where he is in the middle of the ground - but that is with him playing the high HF role as the connection between D50 and our F50.

There is no way this video does anything other than validate the point HARKER was making.

And by the way, I think he's great around the ball in patches as well, but to say that he'll be a key part of our midfield rotation when so many other pure mids can't get a look in is just plain wrong.

Martin will go through the midfield from time to time for sure, but his best footy for the team will be played as that high half forward, menacing the opposition defence and creating unexpected mismatches with his footy smarts.

Martin is exactly for us what he was for at the Suns in the last year or 2, something of a mystery. Good everywhere without being excellent anywhere. I think it was because of how they used him early. He played wherever they needed help as he can play anywhere. If in defense he's a good intercept marker on top of what we already know - that he's handy in the middle, up forward and can provide some class and run on the wing. Because of this he wasn't able to develop a specialist skillset in any position.

As a result of that he can drift in and out of games, and likely always will.

Mythed it by that much...

Surely you noticed how many times he won the ball all over the park

Id like too see the occasional Cripps Martin Williams starting at centre bounces, see how good that combination goes... whipes drool from chin...
