There was a proposal to upgrade Belmont to be a wet and dry track, so the turf club could sell ascot. Part of that was to add a trotting circuit to the centre, and have a one use facility.

The trotting club backed out for some reason ( less revenue maybe?) despite them not needing to manage their own facilities. Whole thing fell over.

I don't think the TC owns Ascot, only the Belmont track. The City of Belmont owns Ascot I believe and the TC lease it off them. Ascot will go soon and Belmont will be the only city track.

Horrible stuff in the NFL tonight. Young Buffalo player Damar Hamlin made a tackle and then collapsed. He had to have emergency CPR and breathing assistance applied on the field. Apparently they were loading him in the ambulance to take him to hospital but stopped that process to administer the emergency treatments to keep him alive. He's still in critical condition. The game was suspended for the night.

Poor bloke's Mum was in the stands watching it all unfold. Can't imagine what that'd be like for her and also his team mates.

Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsed on field after applying a tackle in the NFL's Bill's v Cincinnati game. I haven't seen vision of the incident but it sounds like he made a tackle and stood up only to fall backwards and hit his head on the ground.

He was give CPR on the ground before being transferred to an ICU unit. Sounds very serious and the game has been postponed.

Hopefully he will recover.

Nothing wrong with that. The infrastructure is already there. Train station, accomodation etc
Many in the industry prefer Ascot though because they have stables there, Belmont is a better track with a longer straight and has all the other advantages you describe but a lot of powerful racing people stable at Ascot. I personally think they should suck it up and have Belmont as the only city track too, but it will be a bun fight as there isn't the room at Belmont for extensive stabling to be built.

It looked like Phil Hughes with a couple of stumble steps and then collapse.

Didn't the turf club also own a lot of the land outside the track (basically the whole peninsula) but flogged it off to a private developer?

I think you're right. Around the time of the Perth Stadium site decision I believe. They've spent some of the funds on improving the Belmont Park hospitality facilities so they can now race there at the same time of the year as Ascot - previously all of the catering and hospitality was shared between the two venues.

Not particularly hard to add such facilities. Huge land on which the racecourse sits on.
Weirdly though, Ascot isn’t exactly prime land and probably will just be developed in apartments.

Warner up to his old tricks throwing 45deg bat at wide balls...

To be fair, you can't score at the rate he does without taking some risks. You take the good with the bad.

He's probably going to fail in England again if he goes, but I'm not sure we have anyone better anyway.

Generally considered risky on most Aus pitches but the dude averages like 60 here over his career. Must have an astonishing eye.

I did it the other way, if your eye is bad enough, you can wave 45deg bats at everything wide and miss by 3 inches.

I think Taking those risks and continually beating the odds is what made Warner a great batter and got him his 8000 runs. Doesn’t take much for the stats to catch up
Though and I think he’s lost that edge. Like to see him retire from test cricket gracefully after this match

Give us the new years test and give Sydney the November one, solves the rain issue

Full agreement

The third test Pakistan v NZ ended in a draw. A bit unfortunate really as NZ needed one wicket to win, Pakistan 15 runs to win and there were 3 overs remaining when the match was called off because of bad light?

NZ had two slow bowlers on and Pakistan had two batsmen who were going for the win.

What a disappointment that such a tightly balanced match fizzled out to a draw when there were so many possibilities available at the end of five days of the match.

I watched the last 15 overs. That test appeared to be 100x more enjoyable to watch than all the tests in Aus especially the rain wash out in Sydney, even with Australia winning each series.

Those 10 and 11 batsman were going hard for Pakistan. I loved the field set up for NZ too. It's a shame they called bad light. The spinners were on and they were batting well.

It was heading towards becoming an all-time great finish. Can't believe they didn't try and at least give it one more over. Especially considering there was only 3 left anyway...

I didn't watch it but did the batsmen get offered the light and take it?
