I’d argue that Symonds had very similar issues to Hodge at test level tbh. He might’ve scored two hundreds instead of one.

Hodge, Katich, Watson and probably others were superior options imo.

Symonds was a ODI/T20 gun but was never more than an okay test player. Seems to be remembered differently though.
Symonds was the all rounder though so not an apples for apples comparison.

Those guys weren't competing for a spot in a batting line up of

Hayden
Hussey
Ponting
Martyn
Clarke
Symonds

True, but he played FC cricket until 2009 when Australia had lost Hayden and Martyn and retired despite averaging 69 that season. For whatever reason, he never really got any more chances which is why I singled him out.

Also Hodge with the bat >> Symonds in FC/test.

Symonds didn't have a FC game. He just batted like it was an ODI except he left/blocked more early in his innings before scoring 70% of his runs lofting the ball. He did well to average 40 odd doing that. Basically like a world class village batsman.

Have all these NSW “greats” been so successful because of the sustained opportunities they’ve been given at the top level or have they achieved sustained opportunities by being great? Guess it depends on who you ask on this board.

Warner should never have toured and Agar should be starting in the sub-continent. End of.

Maybe people wanting to throw the NSW players out of the test team should at least name other players they’d pick instead. It’d be a good laugh at least.

Warner’s situation isn’t too dissimilar to Ponting and Watson for example. Very good players past their prime that shouldn’t have played test cricket the last 2-3 years of their test career but the options to replace them were/are non existent. The chances of Warner playing a good innings seems like it’s 5% at best but that’s still higher than 0.

Agar is a extremely mediocre FC/test bowler. The fact he is there is in direct contrast to the NSW bias.

They definitely have favourites, but its not state based.

Again, I’d be interested to see the ratio of tests played vs tests “failed” between some of the WA might have been’s of recent times and the NSW walk ups.

Always thought Nathan Hauritz and Simon Katich were unfairly dropped. Both were playing for NSW at the time.

There’s no state bias at all imo. In a few years after these five very talented players are no longer playing they’ll be less NSW players in the team and people will somehow need to find another reason we suck overseas.

Is that because he punted to an area that the Philly special teams wasn't set up to defend properly?
I was thinking more it was just a shit shallow kick with not enough hang time, so they didn't have enough time to get into position to pressure punt return

This dude I was mates with in high school was just on the news for sneaking into UFC 284 pretending to be media. Mad shit. I'm proud of the dude though, his YouTube shit will blow up from that.
