100 per cent. I'm sure with this new TV rights agreement there would be a clause in there about twilight/night Grand Final.
Gil said at the press conference that the league retained the right to control the fixture, and at this stage it would be at 2.30pm.

Will it move to Twilight? 100%, but that's not Ch7 decision to make.

Very solid ratings for the Brownlow Medal on 7 at #4 and #6 on the night for the red carpet.

Overall I thought it was a very classy professional production - the AFL do their awards nights very well.

Has very much become the yardstick for all sports awards nights.

It's one of those things every sport tries to emulate but none are successful at generating public interest. I can understand why non football fans are baffled as to why it's even remotely interesting.

The brownlow medal should be a national event if 7 actually promoted it properly. People love the red carpet and all that. Even my leaguie mate in qld likes it.

Rugby leagues equivelant event is fox only
Yeah and it generally rates poorly IIRC, at least not as highly as a normal NRL game. The Allan Border medal also flopped and I think that's only on Fox now too.

The success of the brownlow telecast probably has their execs scratching their heads too.

People really do underestimate the Melb/Per/Adl footy audiences at times.

The Dally M hasn’t been around as long as the Brownlow and the NRL also make next to no effort turning it into an event, as it is essentially a newscorp thing.

Up to round 16 all of the votes appear in the newscorp papers and the event itself only covers the final few games and because it is newscorp, only Fox Sports cover it.

Seems to be a lot of talk since TJ spoke out about the club member allocation for Grand Finals. This is obviously nothing new. But to my knowledge the AFL lifted that number slightly from 17k each a couple years ago pre covid or am I mistaken?

I know the MCC & AFL member sections cop a lot of flack but they are still football fans at the end of the day (even if they arent all competing club supporters) who pay yearly memberships and wait decades before they even get grand final access.

The corporate number is out of control. How could the AFL scale this back or are we destined to hover around the 17k mark forever?

The MCG needs 200k seats.

There is a special place in hell for anyone that believes it is their entitlement or right to attend the AFL GF over a competing club member.

Would not matter who was playing, if o had a ticket and Richmond wasn’t competing I’d do my utmost to ensure a competing club member got it.

I just googled the channel 7 TV guide for overnight on Friday to see if they were playing classic grand finals, and it seems that Sydney and Melbourne are getting different matches which is surprising. Sydney gets Sydney v west coast 2005 followed by the prelim Sydney vs Collingwood, and Melbourne gets Geelong v Collingwood followed by the prelim.

Used to be 24-25000 combined between the competing clubs up until about 6-7 years ago or so
