I was thinking last night, after the injury news dropped - would English be currently the All Australian ruck if the side was announced now ??

He's had a stellar start to the year, but isn't a traditional ruck type. It's slightly off topic I know...
English would be on the AA bench. It's Gawn then daylight for no.1 ruckman this year.

Putting club bias aside - Gawn has been good the last few weeks, but nowhere near his previous form (although giving away free kicks and not marking anything hasn't helped this year). But I'm struggling to find another ruckman that has been decent in all games this year. One of my bugbears on AA selection is the credit you get from previous years - like Danger always getting in - even if he's been terrible.

Someone tell me Caleb Serong is a bad trade in for Rowell...
Please...
I think it has merit.. although i couldnt do it. Having said that, he looked far better last week after getting over whatever his knee (bruising) thing was. Spread was better from the contest.

Im a sh*thouse coach, so probably not, but surely people are thinking Hobbs this week and then McComb next week like me?
Yes if I wasn’t a peasant I’d do the same. I just can’t afford Hobbs when I need a good upgrade.

Though teams last night have Stringer and Merrett back which will have an impact

Yep, that's the plan from this side - but I'm also terrible at this thingy....

Next week:
Answerth to McComb, SDK back to DEF.
Windhager Forward - upgrade someone. JHF, Xerri, Jackson are options here. Jackson to Taranto might be an option, depending on a few things.

Good to get a freo and non freo perspective. Even better that they both align!

RE: Hobbs, Zerrett and Stringer do scare me, but im hoping they just shove McGrath back again and Caldwell to a fwd flank.

I think the fact i can reach who i want (Crisp) with Hobbs means i just go the guy who i think has decent job security

Lol went Cripps to English last week. Had no faith in Cripps coming back in a week, can't believe it's happened.

English out now sets me back a long way in terms of upgrades.

Copped Chappy too. At least he gives me a loop option.

Thinking at this stage that I'll go English to Hobbs and hold off on the second trade to see whether I need Chappy as a loop.

Second trade might end up being Ward to Crisp and bank some cash for next week.

If you can afford your upgrade go for it.

When I went Hobbs I could only afford Duncan who is going to lose money

The AA selectors would probably name English on a wing or half forward flank.
Because apparently these are not actual positions, but rather places to stick additional midfielders or KPP players.

That's interesting, 'cause at the Dogs we use the Ruck/KPP spots to put in small HBF'ers or midfielders....

It's like Bevo is the Anti AA Committee....

Or players the AFL Marketing team deem to be "Marquee Players" that attract viewers.

Good chance Buddy Franklin will be the AA Full Forward and will probably get the Captaincy again...

I'm skipping him due to price and the fact the bombers cavalry seems to be returning. Doesn't suit my bye as well whereas McComb is a R13 bye which I need and I feel like we have to start thinking about the bye now

Max has the equal 3rd most contested marks this year, so you can hardly say he's not marking anything. He's also averaging a goal a game.

Dogs play a fantasy friendly game of which English is part of the possession chain. His fantasy numbers have been more consistent than Gawn.

Don't get me wrong, English is having a very good year, but Gawn has a greater impact on games.

Not comparing the two, just interested to know what people are thinking. I don't think Max is playing as well as he can and he has - whereas English is in career best form. Normally the gap would be/has been far larger in terms of performance. Outside these two, the rucks (that I've seen) have been pretty Meh.....

Agree with this but the gap is still big enough that English would be bench at best.

The fact English is in the conversation at all at his age is excellent though and he will only get better from here.

AA ruck atm is

Gawn

English
