This from a mod on the swans board says it all really we blew it "They traded Pick 21 and their Future 2nd Pick in 2023 to Brisbane for Pick 15. Basically traded two 2nd Round Picks for the honour of matching a bid for an academy player. They didn't think this was possible and were completely unprepared for it."


Terrible deal the recruiting team are wearing clown suits.

Not an expert on the draft but it appears we have turned Taranto,Hopper and Bruhn into not much.

Didn't need to lose 12 to get Cadman, blew pick 15. Means we have lost all of taranto' trade capital. I hope Taranto and Hopper are feeling sorry for us tonight, this completely justifies their decision to leave though.

Watching the discussion and body language of our group Caruso was keen to let Rowston go but McCartney might have made a Captain’s call. There are optics for a club like us with Academy kids and I think McCartney bowed to it.

Swans took a punt on a kid they didn’t mind knowing it could potentially ruin our plans re our selections and any chance to gain future selections.

The winners from this? Swans, get a bounty from Hawks and Collingwood…just sat there like Stephen Bradbury and saw Allen drop into their laps.

Yep I agree with that and as a club we need to get real. If Rowston isn't who we rated at 16 academy or not we shouldn't have taken him.

Academy kids are no more "loyal" to the club we should be selecting best availabe if it is close we match but this was a joke and we were played.

We end up with Cadman who is probably the 5th best player in the draft, Rowston who is probably a 25-30 range type player and Jones who is very under sized but offers some pace.

If the Giants don't trade out for a future 1st with their next pick tomorrow this is an absolute write off! Caruso and McCartney need to be sacked.

Cadman is fine, Rowston will be ok but it was on the wrong selection.

Jones has elite attributes but will need to put on weight. Tonight the Swans cost us Allan and some flexibility with what we do with pick 22.

Hopefully there is a player that a club really rates and a good offer comes but it’s hard not to feel a bit deflated.

Can I reiterate I f…… loathe the Swans.

Sure I like he is part of our academy but he wasn't the 16th best player and not a need we needed on our list.

In hindsight it's easy to say 15 should of been moved up but you need to find another club willing to do the deal.

We did? I am not sure out list management team would agree.
Sorry I seem to be overly negative, but, I am also a realist. Our dealings this whole period has been atrocious. Don't worry I will see myself out

We didn’t pay the world for him, we gave less than Melbourne were prepared to offer Essendon for Pick 4.

If anyone on this Board was asked before the trade period which player would be the dream result 90% would have said Cadman and they would be right.

None of us can foretell the future but on what he has shown, his rapid improvement and our need for a forward he was the absolute choice.

I know the odd recruiter and Rowston is well respected so it was genuinely a hard call to pick him or let him go which is why they sat on it for a long time.

Clearly we have a group of players above him on the talent list but he is one of our kids and it puts a lot of pressure on the team. We did hope to pick him but we wanted to use 31 not 16.

Jones is very highly rated and his speed is important for a team that let’s face it has been very one paced. With Bedford and him coming in and a couple of very good but one paced guys going out we are more balanced.

It will be interesting to see if we take George tomorrow or if we trade out as was the original plan and somehow conjure a future 1st?

Wrong. Sydney ONLY bid on him for us to eat up our pick #17 and then force our hand and take our player in Konstanty. I don't blame the Swans at all, quite a smart play. Just super dumb by GWS

Yes only 7 months which points to a massive upside.

Bottom line Rowston was taken too soon but if he turns into a best 22 player that won't matter.

As for Cadman and Jones they were both good selections.

We only got a light clip from the Swans for stealing Dawson but wow, that was some hand grenade thrown by the Swans into your recruiters, looked like it was not a scenario that had been planned for. Heated words being exchanged in there

Then Swans grabbed your likely preferred small forward!

Takes time to see if picks turn into players but your original post trade period hand looked fantastic. Pick trading and tonight's shenanigans may hurt?

I agree to an extent but were I disagree is we looked stunned and not prepared and as professionals they should have war gamed all scenarios and the swans were rumoured to be prepared to bid on Rowston so we should not have been shocked.

They matched the bid but they were not happy which tells me as a fan they don't rate him that high and if that was the case they should have called the swans bluff.

Anyway karma is a bitch and I hope the club have long memories. But I feel our recruiting and list management have needed a shake up before tonight new set of eyes would no go astray.
