Henry Smith and Kalin Lane look like good long term options in the ruck, they'll have to bide their time for a few years(which is normal for young rucks) with Big O being 27 and Fort 28 years of age have a good few years left.

Agree with martinson , Berry Jnr was quite impressive today and last week, developing nicely.

I really think T.Berry has improved this year. A lot more certain with ball in hand and makes things out of nothing.

I wouldn't have any hesitation playing him in the ones if an opportunity cropped up.
Very clean collection of the loose ball. I always feel like this is an underrated skill.

It’s not like the choice is solely up to TBerry if he stays or looks for opportunities elsewhere.

He’s one of a long list of uncontracted players at the club, and he’s in my top 5 players who might be delisted, if we need list spots during the trade and draft period.

Of course he could be delisted, and redrafted with a late pick, after we match bids on Ashcroft and Fletcher. Which would give him two more years on the list on a draftees salary.
I would be surprised if Tom is delisted. Also played well today in the ressies

Who were the best performers in midfield yesterday? We're clearly missing something at AFL level and I'm wondering who besides Dev might be able to step up.
Berry was pretty clearly a level above to my mind. I haven't watched the reserves for a while but he was good below the knees and had quite a bit of dash about it. At least on a crappy stream he looked relatively smaller than other mids though.

As regards anybody in the magoos, what used to be said about the Aus cricket team applies - it’s harder to get out of the side (the firsts) than it was to get in.
Yes you need to be pounding on the door with BOG.
As all the yelling and complaining. The guys in the seconds need to push push push.
Not sure Rayner or Cockatoo be dropped, Lohmann in for one be worth a go sometime this year.
Which leaves M Robbo, Ah Chee and J Berry prob the most pressure.
Ah Chee stood up the last few weeks. J Berry done well lock down run with although should looks gone again.
so leaves M Robbo prob the most likely. So do we try T Berry, Dev or Sharp in his role?
Or move Answerth to the wing for Prior?

I see the much maligned (probably rightly) Ely Smith had good numbers yesterday.
One swallow doesn’t make a summer, but still …..

I watched most of the game and while Ely had a lot of the ball he doesn't seem to have a stand out weapon, dare I say he is a tad vanilla.

I only watched the first half, but I just don't see what others do with T. Berry. He didn't get much footy, 9 disposals I think around half time. Wasn't bursting out of stoppages, breaking tackles, nailing tackles etc. I hardly notice he is on the field.
I thought his first quarter was very good. Hit the pack hard and broke away with pace setting up scoring opportunities. Then I didnt see him in the second quarter. Wondered if he had been rested as an emergency. Wasn’t able to watch the second half.

On first quarter effort I would like to see him given some midfield minutes in the firsts at some stage.

Id like to see him string some huge games together in the reserves. Stand out. Demand selection. Not show glimpses.

I only watched the second half, so my comments were based off that. Just did a couple things that caught my eye, whereas most of the others looked more like reserves standard.

They actually rested him forward a bit and had him off the ground in patches.

He's doing things he couldn't do as efficiently as before and things that no one as in the team can. Bar Lohman I huess

Confused as to why Dev keeps being named in the forward pocket and spending large periods of the game there. I wonder if the coaches are trying to improve his forward craft so he can break into the seniors and play forward/mid? I’d rather he play midfield and rack up touches and force his way into the senior midfield but I understand the premise.

Yeah the premise makes sense. Right now the only spot on the ground that's really open is Lohmanns spot. If Dev can play a good forward/mid role that spot is his for the taking and in turn will get time on the ball in the seniors. In the pre season game where Dev played forward, he still attended 5 centre bounce stoppages then did his hammy which was probably why he hasn't played seniors yet as it's hard to force your way into a winning team.

I don't think he's more than one good game away from breaking back in if Lohmann can't hold his spot.

Doesn't mean anything. Most weeks we seem to give our mids even amounts of time in the midfield even at the expense of the teams performance.
