As a junior Dev played as a inside mid and racked up huge numbers. His main concerns as a future AFL player was his leg speed (one paced) and kicking (bombed it long) . The decision making with the kicking can be improved or fixed the speed cannot. So to me he cannot play AFL as a small forward. His future lies in playing in the midfield in some capacity. Last year he played as a tagging inside mid which Berry now plays when required . He has also on occasions been tried as a wingman. Apparently he is highly regarded within the Lions camp which is also a bonus. I think at the moment he is developing his craft and within the reserves is being given multiple roles to improve his versatility and skills. To me he needs to play as an inside midfielder but these two positions are taken by Lyon and Neale who as we all know are elite players. I hope he stays on our list next year as I reckon West Coast would be looking at him closely as they now have an ageing list.

Hey guys, I'm looking to go to the vfl game tomorrow at burpengary. Do you buy tickets when you arrive, and how much are they? And how is the parking there? Cheers

I used to believe Dev was one paced, but watching him, he has some toe to him, definitely faster than all our other mids, and recorded the second fastest on field speed of our whole team last year.

Yeah the premise makes sense. Right now the only spot on the ground that's really open is Lohmanns spot. If Dev can play a good forward/mid role that spot is his for the taking and in turn will get time on the ball in the seniors. In the pre season game where Dev played forward, he still attended 5 centre bounce stoppages then did his hammy which was probably why he hasn't played seniors yet as it's hard to force your way into a winning team.

I don't think he's more than one good game away from breaking back in if Lohmann can't hold his spot.

Do you think Dev can bring the same sort of forward pressure as we saw from Lohmann? It's an area many on here often lamented.

Especially considering the lack of pressure we can get from others up there on any given week.

No I mean Lohmann had 9 possessions, 5 tackles and 1 goal assist from just 66% game time (only Clug and the Big O had more tackles). Do you think Dev can bring that sort of forward pressure when he doesn't have midfield minutes? Many here don't rate our forward pressure and Lohmann brings it in spades. Party tricks to come!

The lions have tried quite a few pressure forwards over the last few years Tom Berry did well but did not kick goals, Coleman looked promising, Cockatoo and now Lehman. I reckon they want someone who can snag a goal or two plus apply pressure. Cockatoo looked promising but did not get enough of the ball.

Yes I agree, I don’t believe Dev can bring that pressure and we need it as there aren’t many others than apply it. Having said that I would like Dev to be a part of our midfield but only once he’s proven it in the twos. He also needs to be given the opportunity to do that. Will be watching tomorrow’s game pretty closely.

True I think Lohmann is a better forward replacement than Dev for Cocky.

You and me both!

No chance IMO. Lohmann is incredible when it comes to pressure. Where Dev would flourish is stoppage work. He could have a few centre bounce attendances and - when the ball is locked in our 50 - would be a big advantage in winning the hard ball and getting it to the likes of Cameron, McCarthy, Rayner etc.

Doesn't mean anything. Most weeks we seem to give our mids even amounts of time in the midfield even at the expense of the teams performance.
'Mighty Lions' disagrees with me but the development of players should be the priority, even at the expense of results in the 2's. That is why we see some experimentation and will continue to do so regarding players being trialled in new positions.

Yes Dev has pace and if given an opportunity I see him replacing Lyons, especially against the faster midfields... IMO Lyons is not fast and I have yet to see him take a set shot at goal from outside 40 to 45m. Against the bigger body midfields Lyons should play but against the faster midfields Lyons struggles.
