AFLW 2024 - Round 9 - Indigenous Round - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
You need to post more #Quazar.a lot of talent trying or vying (maybe even crying?) to get into this stacked AFL team. If you'd told me at the start of the season that guys like Colyer and Acres were more approved for the best 22 I would have giggle-snorted and told ye sod thy offly....probably. I am mostly a polite human being, so maybe not...
Lots of talent on our list but it still feels like a work in progress finding the 'right 22'. Does such a thing even exist? I don't know - it feels inexplicable that a guy like Sturt can't get a game ahead of Banfield, but I'm ambivalent to it all now....the guys in the AFL team have to perform to keep their spot, the Peel mob need to push their case and maybe meet certain 'requirements'. I'm not privy to what gets spoken about inside the 4 walls, Sturt obviously gets talked about (and talked up a lot..) and the discussion goes around and around like a merry-go-round on amphetamines! But he has missed an awful amount of footy due to some horrible, chronic injuries so I only hope the conversation with him via J-Lo is one of "bide your time, you're very important to me...let's get your body right and get you into this team with the purpose of you'll stay.." kind of thing. I'm okay with that even if on an emotional level I wanna see Sam play AFL. Patience is not my strong suit and I'm assuming others are in the same boat!
As for guys like Crowden and Blakely, you'd have to assume the axe is coming. It's a brutal industry and every year you have to make list changes to accommodate the rotating door of the draftees....if that happens, I'll probably miss Crowden, not so much Connor. I think Crowden is an under-rated player, yes - probably no A-grade world-beater, but if he'd have been given a few more roles in the mid at AFL level, who knows he might have progressed and got better (?). It's ironic, one of his greatest strengths is to kick bullet passes into the forward 50 which is what we're crying out for as team, but we seem too obsessed with long-bombing still and yet, it's almost impossible to argue a spot for him in the mid right now, especially with Brodie coming on as magnificently as he has. His lack of physical size/height is probably what hurts him most, even though he's a tough nuggety spark-plug type build! As it stands it's not likely he'll feature at AFL level unless some mids get injured, which no one wants.
Guys like Amiss and Treacy also look like they'll feature more at Peel for the reminder of the season, but at least their future is safe...for now. Amiss looks like a future gun and Treacy has that great physical pressure/assertion that could be handy if he can find a specific role in the team....shame he hasn't hit the scoreboard much this year, that would have helped him but he's only managed 4 games too. That being said so has Tabs and he has 12. Goals win games. But as others have said we forget Josh is only 19 and got rookie-drafted off the back of no 2020 season. I still think he was a shrewd pick up
Looking forward to seeing Johnson, so much has been talked up about him too...finally he makes a football appearance! Exciting times, the young brigade we have coming through helps assure the future is bright unless things change, which in AFL - is pretty constant.
thanks mate, on average I'm probably posting around 5-10 a day so I've become more 'active' this year - I lost my way a bit around 2018-2020 after my wife fell sick and some personal stuff happened, my posting count should be a lot higher if not for that - I enjoy mucking in here, even if at times it drives me insane! I have 2 small businesses that are 'up & down', a LOT of family drama, a recent death and a few other "niggles" that stop me from going full blown BF cuckoo hahaha, but I just like to chip in where I can and like most folk here, am deadset passionate about seeing this team achieve it all........that's allYou need to post more #Quazar.
Excellent analysis.
Both Strom boys are worth a look as is Jimmy Miller. My sauce at Freo rates Miller.Looks like Derksen has Covid-19.
Only one more chance to impress before the MSD now,
On another hand interesting that Riley Colbourne, a NGA prospect we decided to overlook last year, is already in the Souths team.
Which WAFL game should I watch to kill my last afternoon in iso? As a Freo fan it probably should be Peel but I did want to watch Teakle play again before the MSD. Given Strom will be playing against Peel though…
I think he might surprise us all but I’m tempering my expectations also and as mad Souths supporter am torn. Would love him to have 30, Sturt and Amiss kick 4, with Treacy taking 6 contested grabs and kicking a couple but Souths win by a point. Not expecting any miracles from Johnson today. It’s his first game in a year nearly.
Get though unscathed and show a few nice flashes is the brief for him today
He was close to getting drafted in his draft year from what I heard. Both Strom boys are worth a look as is Jimmy Miller. My sauce at Freo rates Miller.

Benning just kicked a cracking snap goal.
He has put on some bulk since the pre GF game last year. Big unit now.
Moves well across the ground.
Hayden Young here too!

Interestingly Benning is being managed or so it appears. Came off 6 mins b4 3/4 time. Was about to come back on a siren went. Has started on the bench and spent the first 5 mins there.
Just on now and he’s going forward.
Disagree re bulk he has put at least 15kg from last year.At the moment Benning is a 5 meter player.
Ball within 5 meters he looks good.
His center square rucking is good. Boundary rucking nowhere near it. Doesn’t have the bulk or nous yet
Disagree re bulk he has put at least 15kg from last year.
I exclusively watched him for last 20mins and agree he has a lot to learn re ruck craft. Also very clear he hasn’t got the tank yet. South were dominating position so hard to get involved when ball isn’t going your way
I like what I saw. I think there is a huge upside and in few years we will have a real draft steal all other things going the correct way.
Good observations and I agree but I don’t think the bullying was from lack of bulk but ruck craft and positioning.I’m here too
He got bullied by the south’s rucks
