No, selection (even as an emergency) is seen in clubland as a reward. It should never be used as an incentive, so I strongly disagree.
I'm sure there's many motivations or reasons behind making a player emergency, not just one.

10 tackles in 3 games. Bell and Sturt have 10 in 4 and they are smaller forwardsWhy the froth for Wade? We have listed players performing better?

Great to have a developing one seeing as Lobb has one foot out the door
Seen a lot of promise and isn't the finished product at 20 after a growth spurt
Rookie pick so a free shot at a good players convinced he has the tools to make it at AFL level, even if he fails forward he has the athleticism to be a defender, is a bit like how Pearce was a midfielder until his growth spurt, can move well for a big fella (hopefully derksens body holds up better)
Lobb can be held for 1 more year if Derksen needs more time so thats a year and a halfMight’ve missed the boat for a developing forward/ruck to replace Lobb if he’s truly got one foot out the door. Whilst someone developing in the background wouldn’t be a bad thing, we’re not developing a guy to replace Lobb between next week and March next year are we?

I personally think Derksen is undersized for a forward/ruck at AFL (he got monstered by some second string WAFL rucks) but until recently wasn’t aware of how much he’s grown recently so there could be more to come. Still see him as more of a project KPF/KPD tbh.
