Pretty sure the one that was nailed was Jaspa Fletcher, a f/s and academy member not able to be drafted till the next draft.
I suspect there were a few VFL and probably the odd Academy players playing for the B team in the last couple of match sims. If there were a few, then would expect the A team to dominate in every facet. On top of that some players may still be recovering from COVID. Whilst match sim reports indicate some of our guns are playing well, the upcoming practice games IMO will be a much better indication of where some players are at. Still think there are a couple of spots open for best 22.

His wing spot is the most contentious in the whole team if you ask me.
There are definitely a few pushing and if he doesn’t start the year well, then he may find himself playing VFL.
Which we all know, he would not like, so he will be doing all he can to hold down his spot in the team.
He would be an absolute beast as a injury sub. Would come on with so much energy.

Mathieson really baffles me as a sub as all he can really do is inside mid. Possibly the worst tactical sub you could get.

Mitch has wing as his preferred role, but could easily play some inside mid, defensive forward.

And he'd be the sort of person not to sook about it.

Obviously you can't have a permanent sub but if he is not best 22 he should be sub as much as possible. Great player to come on in a big final.

Clarkythelion Prep stated at Queensland schools in 2007, so Qld now has 13 years of school like Victoria for a few years, so this should not be an excuse anymore. Although as you point out, there is basically no emphasis on football in Qld except for a few schools. This is left up to the Academy and clubs and is why the Lions and Suns academies are so important for the game here in the long term.

Could be Fullarton?
Time to science this. Fullarton had white/orange boots on.

Looking at the yellow team huddle, there's a few sky-blue boots in there, but let's take #60 on the right.

Harry Arnold, one of our VFLers, wore #60 last year, sky-blue boots, dark baseball cap worn backwards, I'll call that a match on the hair, and is alluded to several times in the instagram comments.

The guy I am looking forward to most this year is McFadyen. Last year preseason the Fox Footy analysts were pushing this new role of the "striker". Essentially bigger body midfielders that could also play as an undersized mobile key position forward. The archetype for this role were Bontempelli, De Goey, Dusty, Cripps, Fyfe etc. The idea being these guys would play at midfield stoppages and then slip out the front causing a mismatch in the forward line as either a smaller mid or tall back would have to go on them. They could then use size or agility to take advantage of the mismatch or use it to create more space and less contest for the true kpf. The role would also cause miscommunication errors when the midfielder and back would have to handover the assignment.

Raynor was built for this role. However, McFadyen has the exact same attributes. He is tall and rangy but also big in the shoulders and hips. He can go aerial or contest at ground level. He always looked a level above at NEAFL level before his ACL. If he can pair with Cam then that means we can keep the height in our forward line whilst rotating Omac through the bench. Oscar plays so much better when he is not fatigued. Instead of playing another ruck for rotation, we could go with Joe in the ruck with Cam, McFadyen and McStay as the talls for 5 minute spells.

You are correct. One should never say "definitely" without giving adequate to to carefully consider. I will now suggest that it 'may" be Kalin lane who was rucking in the 2nd team.
(as above, VFL player Harry Arnold)

As an aside, Matho was doing laps before the intra. Don't know what his problem was but he is looking in superman condition.

Probably missed out on match sim last week due to recovery from his broken nose surgery a week or two ago in training.

There has been a bit of a theory about Queensland players for years. Up here we certainly have some great juniors but our guys finished school a year before drafting so only have club footy for a year where the Victorians still have school and club in that year before drafting. With our guys out of the school system there seems to be a drop off once out of the day to day routine and structure the Victorian's have and for those at the private schools the training and professionalism around the school's program. In short the Queenslanders are 'late bloomers' where once on a list they take a bit longer to get into the process than the kids from the other states. Once we were discussing Sherwood they are in the QAFL the Queensland second division competition there would be no full time players in that competition, all would have jobs so it's probably called park footy. But players do get recruited from there to the AFL, rarely but it does happen. The best kids in Qld will generally be in the Lions and Suns academy and they are the ones that get drafted. Then there are some kids playing and trialing with Southport and Aspley from teams like Sherwood and the odd one will get a run. I think its a bit like comparing chalk and cheese really, but you might say our younger top us are probably not as good as Victorian ones just because our process to the AFL is as good and we have a more even speed of sporting choices all chasing talented kids. Once in the process Queenslanders are just as good as any other states.
Queensland schooling is now in line with the Southern states. If your birthday falls before July, you will finish school, aged 17. Birthday in July or later, you will finish school aged 18.

So early birthdate kids will finish school the year before their draft. Our whole 2019 draft crop all finished school the year before their draft year.

Also, I would call the QAFL Queensland's top division of football, as the NEAFL no longer exists, and the VFL is more a quasi national second tier competition.

Matho was doing laps at training last Wednesday afternoon at Yeronga as well, might not be a problem.... putting in a big effort again this off season to improve his endurance maybe?

Are they any good compare to Vic teams VFL top ups?
I'm not familiar with the players the Vic clubs have as top ups. Our top ups are mostly in the 20 to 22 age bracket and would be considered some/most of the best young talent in the state not on an AFL/VFL list.

before his ACL McFadyen was also pretty quick

I had high hopes for McFadyen last year but was pretty disappointed. I would be very happy to see him make a big jump this year. I would like a solid medium, goal kicking, marking forward who could give us quality time in the midfield.

I'm guessing that's what Rayner and Cockatoo are in the team for.

We've had the opportunity to draft one in the previous two drafts, but went in other directions.
