Probably a few too many gambles IMO.

I’d have one, maybe two at the most of Heeney, Weller, Rowell and Marshall otherwise you risk burning through trades early.
Thanks. I might move things around to get Dunkley in instead of Heeney - either move Rowell down to Berry as a less expensive gamble or Weller to someone else.

Pretty happy taking the gamble on Marshall this year.

Coming off two years in a row of 11/22 games, Dunkley is as much of a risk as pretty much anyone else.

Yeah I know every other kent will have him.

Means you will get a big jump on every kent if you don't take him and he gets injured like he probably will.

Full disclosure, I'm starting him but that doesn't mean you should.

Rowell is gonna torch the kents that don't start him IMO

True. Pretty much every forward this year has multiple red flags on them which is making it more difficult to be happy with them.

Dunkley would at least give you the cash to trade to the next best forward when he does get injured.

I love this logic. "he's a good pick because he's really expensive even if he's shit value"

I mean you're not wrong, just seems basically logically flawed

I think the issue with not starting Dunkley is if he starts the way he did last year and even if it’s only 6-7 games, but he averages 125-130 your behind those who started him

Had him last season (not from start) and loved him. Great to watch. Explodes from the contest and runs and runs and runs. Top pick for anyone that starts with him
Same as you. Picked him up around around 8. A joy to own. Tempted to dump Steele for Touk just as a POD. Only 13%

Both new-ish to the SP group. Both happy to tackle lots which might be SC gold this year if the umps are strict on the new rules

There’s two big risk factors with Dunkley, role and injury.

The role question so far in the pre season seems to have been answered so that’s no longer an issue IMO.

As for the injury, we know that he’s a reasonably safe bet to go 110-120. So even if he gets injured, as long as he plays 5-6 games he’ll get his price up to a point where you can trade him to whichever top premium you’re missing. If he doesn’t get injured then you’ve probably got the number one forward in your side. Either way that’s huge value for $558k.

The only way you get burned with him is if he gets injured before his price rises, and the chance of that happening is relatively low. Considering his high ownership if you don’t pick him you basically need this to happen otherwise you're losing out.

Dumped Lloyd from D1. Touk will outscore him.

I like it

He won’t
even still, does he average enough to warrant the pricetag?

i'm happy to say i'm 95% sure the answer is no, at 360k you're wanting a 100 avg tbh. Will he get that. No ******* way.

he's a terrible option imo

If you don't mind, could you explain why Lipinski is no chance to go 100? Twice done 80 avg on sub 20% cbas at 20/21, 156 VFL avg over the 4 he played. I think there is a case for it, already got more CBAs than Adams on the weekend.

because he's not a good enough player :)

Lippa is a fine pick. He'll be at most of our centre bounces. He'll average around 100, just don't know what it'll be. Could be 94, could be 103. Doubt he goes over 105. I'd take him if Berry wasn't around, prefer him at a much cheaper price. Also Caldwell at a cheaper price, who is set for bulk midfield time, also appeals (Berry and Caldwell are also cheap enough to take as stepping stones; Lippa and Rowell as genuine mid pricers would really need to be keepers)

Probably an unpopular opinion but I don’t think Lloyd is a must have or a “lock”. Priced close to his max and not really much upside, I’m happy to miss him and bring him in later on. I don’t think he’ll hurt you much not having him and think a Short or a Ridley provide much better value. It’s hard to pay up for a guy like Lloyd when cheap rookies are scarce and we have to pay up for expensive rookies and Berry type players.

It looks like Lloyd is unders. If not 122 or 112, then 109, still slightly unders. Dawson gone now to take less of his chips. I think it's a bigger risk if you don't start him than to start him. Worst case he goes ~100 and he drops a little. Best case he goes ~120 and you're in a lot of trouble.

Keep in mind that 122.2 was the covid season where everyone’s scores were inflated due to shortened quarters so I can’t see him doing that again. Dawson played wing most of last season so Lloyd did have kick outs mostly to himself and averaged 107. I think he probably goes 110 but I also think Short/Ridley type go close to that as well so don’t see the harm in not starting him. The extra 60k saved is a necessity with the lack of 123k rookies available at the moment. If cheaper rookies pop up I’ll look at Lloyd again but it’s not looking likely and I’m happy with Ridley and Short D1 and D2 as of now.

Why do you think Ridley and Short's average jumps up by 10 or so?

Short has Vlastuin taking a lot of kick-ins. Baker, Stack, Rioli, Mansell and Ralphsmith all playing back and getting a lot of the ball.
Ridley has Heppell, Hind, Redman and now McGrath to contend with down back.

Anyway no point arguing, you can make a case for and against any player. Back your gut mate :)
