Seeing Finlay in fair few teams. Would he still be in these teams if his surname was literally anything else instead of Macrae?

I think there's a bit more it than that.

Over a four game stint at the end of the year he averaged 57.25. Since he has a couple of single figure scores earlier than that due to being the medisub, he's cheaper than JHF.

He started to look comfortable and it's reasonable, after another preseason, to project improvement on that 57.25 as an average.

Then, yes, there is the surname factor, but it isn't just because he has a gun brother, it's that his brother broke out in his 2nd year with a 100 average.

If you can't feel the FOMO then good luck to you, he probably only averages 68 and makes the bare 150k required to make him a solid pick. I've got him at M7 just in case

Cheers, been curious if hes being picked due to hope he is like Jack or due to his own abilities.

Played better than some of his scores suggested late in the season also.

I don't mind it. He's basically rookie price, I thought he showed a bit by the eye test in his limited opportunities last year even if it didn't translate to scores, and by all reports he's having a strong preseason.

Not currently in my team but I did consider him. If JHF or Daicos broke their leg tomorrow I'd probably sub in Macrae in their place.

Rich is 32 this year and had only 1 truly elite Supercoach season as a defender, and that was last year.

At his maxed out price, you're better off going with Chip Scab, Crisp, Whitfield or Cam Polson in defense for mine.
Disagree on Whitfield being a better selection that Rich. Whitfield could break a nail and miss five weeks.

This is true.

That's the risk you gotta run if your chol is impressive as you claim it is though..

Deleted my team and started from scratch. These were the players i picked first. Im avoiding Whitfield, Grundy & those forward 'almost premiums' (Thomas, Treloar, Bailey, Bolton etc) apart from Butters.

Will probably go Gawn in the ruck but i am thinking about risking Witts/Preuss combo.

Forgot to add Cogs in before the screen shot. He is definitely in my team.

Those 4 mids are the ones I keep starting my team builds with

Is there anywhere i can find previous winners starting teams?

Why!....different era, different players, different circumstances......yes, you might get to figure their starting configuration, but once the season begins, it all comes down to making the correct decisions and LUCK, baby, LUCK and plenty of it.....and believe me when I say LUCK plays a major part.....

Top ten finish two years in a row out of 250,000 🤔

That Barry Roundhouse sure is one Lucky Kent .

Guess he is wondering how to spend $60 mill his morning , the odds are better.

How lucky am I finishing with almost identical overall rankings 4 years in a row (558, 538, 747, 524) whilst starting those 4 seasons with 3 different Rd1 strategy's: MPM, Hybrid, MPM & GnR. Pretty damn lucky I'd say and I'm not even Irish! :D

No doubt luck plays a part , but no where near the level that people think imo .
consistency puts luck in its place 👍

It's all luck anywhere below 5K.

If you're consistently inside 5K you've clearly got skill and it wasn't all just a fluke.

Last 2 years i haven't been anywhere near it. 15-20k. Just useless with navigating Covid and late changes, staggered team releases, all that fun shit.

I also blame Patrick Cripps.

The "luck" is in not having your players get injured. Or go from guns to spuds like Cripps. And getting rookie roulette right is often luck imo, especially in the first few rounds.

Of course it's not bad luck if you pick injury-prone players and they get injuries!

Mr Birch clearly has SC chops...No doubt about that.

DS is right though, late changes, navigating Covid ect. It's nigh on impossible to find the time to sort properly.
Especially being in WA, late changes to early games are usually made during working hours and just don't get the opportunity to work on my team before 6pm WST.
Then young kids/family stuff time constraints too.
