Saad for Boyd

Injuries only from there

Whilst a number really dropped off in the second, and some younger players made some shockers - 20m passes under no pressure is not a mark of elite; shockers from 50m say otherwise - they won’t learn in the seconds.

Stocker, Dow, Fog, Martin as back up pending fitness

If you don't want wayward passing you don't replace someone who does that with Fogarty.

Yeah I just don't get people disagreeing with that. Seemed like everytime Fisher had the ball outside 50, he'd kick it to an outnumber.

maybe Durdin and Owies shouldn't be playing as well as they are ...Owies ahs been the big improver for mine in general play - he is bobbing up everywhere - tremendous work rate and Durdin not far behind- Fish hasn't got their run or physical impact.

Well that's just wrong. Fish has had a bigger physical impact than both and is popping up in general play more than both.

will someone be sitting on jack bowes?

Dow 30 and 2 goals…. 14 clearances!

Another great game and probably BoG. He’s knocking.

Motlop too with 4 goals.

I don’t want to see anyone dropped, but competition for spots is now a thing. Maybe Owies? (Would be extreeeeeemly unlucky, but the talent is bashing the door down).

Can’t see who would step aside in the midfield.

Yeah but doesn’t look good chasing kicks in the twos and just choosing when he goes - unless it wasn’t him not applying pressure in the last - if you are going to be a Carlton player you should be 100% committed

I would play jack martin in the 22 given our forward entries and conversion per i50 let us down. Martin is our best lead up forward and he knows metricon and the humid conditons

There was one bit of play where it was a one on one, fish had to go but didn’t. Like he was scared. That’s enough for me to want him out.
Unfortunately Fish needs reminding that it isn't touch football sometimes.

Out:
De Koning - Looks good in the ruck, but is not a forward... Could he be a defender like his brother?
O'Brien - Like O'Brien (really want him to make it)... but looks slow and fumbley of late, maybe a rest and push Docherty to the wing...
Boyd - Unfortunately has to make way for Saad...
In: Saad, Martin, Motlop

Next in Line: Dow & Stocker

Imo, Fisher had a poor game today. But he had 2 good games in the first 2.

TDK had a poor game. I'm a fan and don't want him outta the team, but he needs a talking to. He has a role but needs to play smarter than today.

Boyd has been unimpressive at AFL level, no 2 ways about it. But he has game and is not a write off. Keep working at it back in VFL.

O'Brien took a step backwards today in his development. He's a worry. He's been improving , but he is finding it really tough to play with a clear head anywhere near traffic. Can't keep playing like that despite the other strengths of his game.

Imo, Williams was shaky today despite playing well overall. Plow worries me. As does Newman sometimes.

OK, that's the worries imo.

Most of the rest is going remarkably well considering a whole new coaching setup and structure setup and not being experienced winners. Remarkably well and no need to panic. All the above players are not deckchairs by any means. But we can improve, and will, personel wise.

Saad, Martin, Dow, Stocker, Motlop, Carroll, McGovern etc are good options...if and when.

We need to get paddy Dow into the side, he has been knocking the door down for the last three games. I would hate to lose him to another club because of lack of opportunity.

Best game at either level I’ve seen him play. He ran hard all day. Chased when it was his turn.

His hands in traffic are absolutely elite. He should be strongly considered for a call up. He was leagues ahead of them today.

His improved running is a credit to him. Well done Paddy.

Dow in, Walsh to wing, LOB out?

He was too shaky again today imo and those fumbles are costing us...

He wasn't alone, Boyd too was pretty bad at times....

Same with Williams... had an overall decent game but there were kicks missing the mark, efforts that could have been much better etc.

Maybe go with:

IN: Dow, Stocker, Saad
OUT: LOB, Boyd, Fisher

Out: Boyd, Plowman
In: Saad, McDonald

Need Pitto and TDK to battle against Witts though Pitt got hurt and TDK looked lacklustre.

Not sure whether we bring Martin in but out of the small fwds you'd think Fish is the one who might be made sub.

Would consider playing Weitering in Gov's role and allow OMac and Young to battle with two of Chol/Cas/Luko (I can see Plowman getting destroyed by these guys).

Finally, Hewett to do a role on Touk Miller and we should be good and free from our annual Metricon disappointment.

Boyd out for Saad. Obvious as Boyd was terrible again. Lost almost all interactions.
Martin in for Lob. Walsh to wing.

Lob hurt my eyes in this game. I think on balance 1 good game, one ok game and one poor game. But his physicality is just so grating. Walsh to the wing right now and Lob to the 2s.

A few at risk. TDK is making simple things look really hard in the fwd 50. Almost becoming a ‘nearly awesome player’, a bit like Esava. The cost of TDK and Pitto is run late in the game. GC will just run and run. I want silver as backup ruck in that game and only play 1 ruck.

Plowman with ball on the deck running backwards towards opponent goal is terrible. His confidence looks so low in that situation. Please Marchy show us something soon.

Fish was quiet today. Needs a good game. Reprieve because of two fair previous games.

Cripps should not be taking kicks or receiving the ball 50-70 from goal. He should run inside 50 for the marking mismatch he provides. Yes, awesome play right now but terrible decision maker around 50-70 out from goal. No one should pass it to him in that range.

Didnt mind Youngs game. Loved JSoS game. Kennedy good again. Hewett crazy in last along with Doc. Love those guys.

Plenty of time left in the season. He’s actually improving in the vfl. While our senior mids keep winning contested possesions and inside 50s it’s hard to see how he gets in.

Weirdly they keep playing Kennedy on massively low minutes. Amazing really. Played 2.5 quarters against Hawks.

Imo, Fisher had a poor game today. But he had 2 good games in the first 2.

IMO Fish was ordinary in round 1 but redeemed only in the last Q.
IIRC J. Martin and Owies in the same bracket, maybe a couple of others.

Edit: would like to see Fisher mirror E.Gulden’s game from Sydney. The kid’s a jet & they have similar attributes but the younger version is cleaner & harder at it.

Martin can turn a game in a quarter and works much harder then I sense he is credited for. I would play him in the 22 because he's not a fringe player.

OUT: Pittonet/TDK, Fisher, Boyd
IN: Dow, Martin, Saad

I'd be considering Williamson for Plowman just so we have more ability to stop the ball over the top, but Willo seems to be set to appear on the weekly injury report, with no mention in the emergencies and no appearance in the VFL.

My preference for starting ruck remains TDK, and I think Pittonet was found wanting a lot through the game. TDK is building fitness and looks pretty dynamic in the role when afforded time to settle in. Just playing too heavy right now to be a starting forward unless absolutely necessary, and he may have to be if Charlie is out, with Kemp an outside chance.

Fisher has just been doing nothing with a lot of opportunities, and rarely provides adequate defensive pressure.

Dow and Saad are no-brainer inclusions at this point, even if Dow is playing off the wing or HF for centre bounces: he can link in this system well enough as the corridor play resembles how he likes to exit stoppages. Martin gets the nod over an increasingly in-form Motlop as he will likely fire against his old side.

Dow won’t replace Fish. He will be lost if he plays most of his minutes up forward. Dow needs to spend most of his time at the centre bounce, pinch hitting up forward.

He’s now a useful backup if one of the Carlton crew are injured.

Fisher isn't even spending most of his minutes in the F50, so Dow will be fine. Can't do worse with the form both are in.

I said at the start of the off-season that we should be looking to develop Owies into a poor man's Robbie Gray, and I stand by those comments. Him swinging between stoppages and a forward role will cause havoc, but he might need to develop the midfield read in the VFL for a stretch, eventually.
De Koning - Looks good in the ruck, but is not a forward... Could he be a defender like his brother?
He absolutely is a forward, he's just a bit too heavy to play the majority of his minutes there. Give him Pittonet's ruck time and he'll have a better overall impact.

Definitely happy to move on from today and focus on this game.

I don’t think TDK offers enough, Young or JSOS could pinch hit for Pittonet.

Saad obviously an immediate inclusion.

Saad for Boyd
McDonald if fit for Plowman

Martin can be sub again
Martin shouldnt be sub.
Should start instead of Fisher
