Playing the Tigers at the MCG, well let’s take this as a mulligan, official squad below.

We played three games at the venue last year (none in 2020), beating both Collingwood and Melbourne but losing to the Hawks in between, almost a summary of our season.

Coincidentally we’ve also played against the Tigers three times since, a 12 point win at home in 2020 and a 39 point win at Docklands in round 22 last year similarly split by a loss, by 4 points at Docklands in round 9.

This is how we lined up in our last head to head, Round 22 2021

Plenty of changes in both teams from the above to last week:

Tigers 10
Outs: Vlastuin, Garthwaite, Stack, Dow, Lambert, Parker, Mansell, Coleman-Jones, M Rioli & Ralphsmith who ended up coming on as the sub for Prestia.
Ins: Tarrant, Balta, Broad, Ross, Pickett, Soldo, Martin, Castagna, Aarts, Gibcus

Giants 7
Outs: Stein, Peatling, Haynes, Kennedy, Sproule, Hogan, Mumford, Bruhn
Ins: Keefe, Davis, Green, Flynn, Hill, Riccardi, Cogs, Brander

More are coming with both Prestia and Reiwoldt already ruled out of Saturday’s game for the Tigers.
Caddy a probable in, not sure on the other forced change.

It’s hard to see the Giants going in unchanged despite a rare injury free game; XOH with 7 disposals and 2 tackles in 81% game time and Ash with 8 disposals and 3 tackles in 80% game time should both be nervous.
Our conversion rate for inside 50s in the second half was terrible, mostly thanks to delivery, but also some terrible shots on goal, we won the inside 50s after halftime, but were outscored 8 goals to 3.

Possible changes are Hogan/Pruess and Nick Haynes in for Riccardi and ??, I'd also like to see Bruhn replace XOH/MDB.

Since the game that mattered most we’ve had the edge on Richmond, and given their rather insipid performance last week we should go in favourites this week, especially with the two star outs.

Why do I get cold sweats and the shakes when I think of playing Richmond at the G ? Do I have Covid ?

You can tell if you start appreciating Richmond. Obviously that means your taste has gone.

Put it this way.

If we can't defeat the Tigers at the G with our ins and their outs, we never will.

Not that we have any influence over team selection but LC has shown signs of liking a tall forward line and this is an early season test so hopefully it comes off
Like others Brander is lucky to retain his spot unless a late change is made but the forecast is for sunny and hot and I actually would prefer MDB or Peatling over Brander although 1 of those 2 is likely to be the medi sub I think
And a big game for Flynn up solo against Soldo and Nankervis
I still see the Tigers as capable of winning this without Martin as with mids Bolton and Baker they have 2 dynamic players who can turn a game and it will be another test of the Davis and Taylor defence going up v Lynch and Balta

The other two that get forgotten are Prestia and Lambert. Both will miss and both add significantly to the Tigers stocks.

Dusty, Lambo and Meatball is one entire midfield rotation. Very hard to cover that.

All the best Dusty, take care.

I think GWS should win.

However under Cameron, GWS has a very long and storied history of not winning the games they should win.

I think you'll find that plays a big role in why many of us are far from confident.

Happy with the Ins.
Hopper out is the main concern. Thank goodness we have Tom Green.

I cannot wrap my head around Brander being in the 22 ahead of Preuss.

It makes me think there may be a late change.

Is Hogan or Brander going to be a late out?

Comparing sides to last year when the tigers were seemingly without their best midfield and still knocked us off the major changes between sides is

Tigers
Out Astbury, grimes, vlastuin, Houli, Martin, Riewoldt, aarts, RCD
In Cotchin, soldo, Miller, Gibcus, Tarrant, Bolton, edwards, Parker, Dow

Giants
Out buckley, buntine, Greene, briggs, hopper
In brander, Haynes, Davis, Bruhn

The other major change is last year we started the year in very ordinary form and this year we have started well against the swans

Going to the game today first giants game since the Richmond game at Marvel last year and first giants game at the G since the 2019 prelim, think we should cruise to a win
Lucky it's in Melbourne it's bucketing down in Sydney

Enjoy the game !!

This is the sort of game that worries me.

on paper with their outs - we should win - we are expected to win - we are a club that often defies expectations
it‘s a milestone match - we often don’t do particularly well in milestone matches
actually it’s a triple milestone match - will that translate into a poor performance times 3?

will my double-bluff-reverse-psychology work?

this is the sort of game that worries me.
