The best thing they came out with was a slug that was a harder sponge type one.

Meant we didn't have to use the old fashioned lead slugs when playing war games as kids out on the farm.

Those mofos stung real bad!

Oh never seen those ones...
Yep, got hit a few time with the lead slugs on my cousins farm...
Geez they hurt, one went in my arm and we had to get it out so we didn't get in trouble... :laughv1:

I'm pretty sure means the player we put on the inactive list can be reactivated
I've been trying to confirm this.
It seems, contrary to my original understanding, that if you take a MSD selection the inactive player is actually out for season.
But in your example where a player is not replaced it may be that they can resume playing.
Question would be does this open up a loophole that if you put one extra player on inactive list to number of selections you will use, can you choose which player comes back when able?

Eg if we added Gov & Parkes for four selections but only used three...then later in the year one of them is ready to play are they able, regardless which one (but not both).
Lore ?

NB my original understanding was due to this 2019 AFL article which is on the nmfc site
"If an inactive, injured player is fit to play before the season ends, a club can apply to return that player to the primary list in place of another long-term injured player"

Looking forward to seeing who we pick up next week. Rapt with Agresta and Austin's work so far with later picks.

Also interested to see if anyone drafts Jamieson Jarvis. He's on the MSD list, but looks an extremely remote possibility.

My son played with him at junior level. He was a freak. Completely dominated games. Athleticism and skills were off the chart. Was like a little Charlie Curnow. Beautiful kick on both sides too. I was assistant coach of his cricket team, and to illustrate how skilled this kid was on both sides of the body, he could bowl with both left and right hand. I’m not talking about John Howard style bowling, this kid was elite on both sides. You literally couldn't tell which hand he was bowling with, unless you paid attention. I’ve never seen anything like it. He and his family were big Carlton supporters too.

Anyway, I’m going back a few years now. As far as I can tell, he hasn’t done a whole lot to build his case in the last couple of years. Seeing his name makes me dream we identified the kid years ago, and mothballed him ready to pounce with a shock selection and he becomes a navy blue super star. But in reality, he will probably be one of the many hundreds of kids each year who get overlooked and perhaps hit his peak at junior level dazzling onlooking dads like me on suburban footy fields. Seemed a nice kid, so wish him the best of luck.

One rule I'd like to see altered for the Mid-Season Draft is that where clubs have deliberately left a list spot open with the mid year draft in mind is that those clubs are prioritised in reverse ladder order. IIRC there were 5 clubs (including us) who'd specifically left a list spot open. Then all other clubs would follow suit in reverse ladder order until all selections were used.

Yes he rule is stupid imo
If a club has it on their list
Of hey shouldn’t have to apply to the corrupt AFL
Club found someone and then all
Is good

Countryblueswitnotattoos secretly typed this left-handed to see if anyone noticed...

Nup. The AFL's equalization policies work fairly, and Carlton is a good example of these benefits.
The teams with the strongest lists are the ones that could most afford to leave a place vacant each season for the best MSD players, I can't see the league ever allowing this to happen. We're going alright and we've earnt our top 4 status.

I thought that too, but in reality leaving a spot open is a choice.
We could have added someone via supplemental selection period but decided not to.
Still, overall does feel like we never got much help to deal with the Liam Jones situation from the league in those weird circumstances.
Sense if it happened to Suns AFL would have bent over backwards to assist way more with some extra pick before others somewhere.
Is what it is.
Does not look like we ever going to recover the mature ready made senior player we lost in off season.
This mid-season rookie draft is mainly raw kids or Glass-McCasker types we can pick from.
Hope we pick well and find someone that can help our ruck and key defence stocks.

Apparently, Aussie Jones - of St Kilda ilk - used to play premier seconds and above as an opening bat, and would pick whichever hand was the opposite of his partner; if his partner was right handed, he'd bat as a leftie, and vice versa. And when no. 3 would walk out, he'd switch if he'd need to in order to set up the right/left combination.

Hope two of the below fall to our picks...

Reidy
Hart
Blanck
Durdin
O'Neill - for some reason have a good feeling about him...

All likely gone by our first pick... which is pick 13 or 15
Bauer, Derksen, Ramsden, Ballenden, Dawson, Culley, Carmichael & El Nour
At the moment, it's picks 9 & 11.

I really hope Durdin isn't anywhere near the top of our board given the talent of the talls and small on offer. He's a spent force, unfortunately.

He’s a 25 year old, 199 cm, 100kg KPD.

This year he has been moving, leaping and marking in the same way as he did when he was a highly rated junior (pick 14).

IMO nowhere near a spent force.

I played cricket a few years back against former Saint, Dean Greig. The guy literally had one leg, and was still a gun with bat and ball.

That's not much of a compliment, given his mechanics at that age are why he broke down, despite so much promise.

That doesn't look to have changed enough, despite years in North Melbourne's system where they would have attempted to correct for it. Not sure his body can hold up in the system.

Analysis paralysis.

He hasn’t missed a game in two years playing SANFL. Although I’m aware that it’s a different beast to AFL.

WCE, Essendon, Carlton and Port are all interested and I’m certain they all would have completed their due diligence when it comes to his mechanics and the transition back to AFL.

D’Ambrosio, injured his shoulder in the VFL today...
Could be a big slider, is he worth a look?

Seems to be a silky small defender, not exactly the tall we want...
But we may not have much choice at our picks, would allow Boyd to push up to the wing (think Boyd could be the winger we've been looking for)...
No way man, watched him the other week and yeah he looked good, BUT...

We have more than enough injured players already, and our success rate of 'fixing' players we have brought in with both acute and chronic injuries is appalling.

It was an impact injury, not much you can do about that... It's part of footy...
But yes agree with your point, about our success with injured players...

If he's picked over someone like Derksen, the only people who should be whipped are the decision makers behind that.

Or maybe - just maybe - the recruiting staff who put probably hundreds of hours into watching these guys over a long period of time - know more than what you can glean off a 3 minute YouTube video.

I know that’s hard for you to comprehend Jim, but it’s just logic.
