List Mgmt. 2022 Senior List - The Final TWO Spots

We kind of have no choice now we need 2 ready to go round 13, KPPs...
Hoping Ballenden and Durdin last to our picks...
We'll run short of decent players let alone talls. Weitering going down is not the tale of that match. We need to keep finding best 18 players, let alone best 22, and we need to explore all avenues to do that.

Well, if it’s any consolation, we have a higher pick for the MSD.
Yep, final order likely to be...

First round
1. West Coast (via Oscar Allen)
2. North Melbourne (via Miller Bergman)
3. Essendon (via Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti)
4. Adelaide (via Rory Sloane)
5. GWS Giants (via Josh Fahey)
6. Hawthorn (via open list position)
7. Gold Coast (via Ben King)
8. Port Adelaide (via Jake Pasini)
9. Collingwood (via Nathan Kreuger)
10. Richmond (via Josh Caddy)
11. Sydney (via open list position)
12. Geelong (via open list position)
13. Carlton (via open list position)
14. St Kilda (via Nick Coffield)
15. Fremantle (via open list position)

Voss said tonight, we would not change our list management strategy, because of Weitering going down...
Lloyd said a while back in the MSD, we are only going for players that we see as future AFL players...

Which is the right thing to do for the long term...

But for the now... Reality is, for another 6+ weeks, we're going to have 3 available players over 195cm, TDK, Cripps & Young... :cryv1:

Decent setup sitting in the stands

McGovern
Kennedy

I find this so funny, almost creating a narrative that everything is sunshine and flowers. They said the same dribble after Jones retired, OMac went down, Gov went down and now Weiters is down. Do they think supporters are dumb or something to not realise how stupidly thin our spine is?

Glad to hear Vossy say that. We'll have a few weeks of pain because of last year's strategy, but we can't afford to clog up a list thats approaching contention. AFL quality players please, not reserve level talks.

So is it WBD below us & the BL & MEL above without picks (do they have possibilities to enter the fray?)?
If the players we’re interested in will be about our picks, I’d be adding another to the inactive list (slide them later in the season) to have another selection.
E.g. 2 x talls & W.Hayes, or a slider & 2 x talls. Or even better, an unknown superstar in the making….

13 versus 15 could make the difference. I'm not averse to taking 1 backup tall but I'd try to draft a developing player with 'upside' with the other pick. Hindsight recruiting because we've had bad luck rubs me up the wrong way. It's the lack of planning that creates these situations in the first place.

The 3 of them have no list spots...

The problem is that our key position stocks are now so thin, it is essential we find someone capable of playing as a key defender, Weitering is not replaceable and his loss will be felt heavily against teams with quality key forwards, Collingwood don't have them so probably was not felt as much compared to some other teams.

It is evident we have too many taller players that lack durability, Weitering aside, so this area that really needs some attention, in the end of season draft.

I know they are thin. The risk was taken on McGovern, McDonald and Marchbank being fit and it's backfired. Cutting Casboult was dumb. I still prefer we don't recruit anyone outside of names who are perceived to be AFL quality. If they have already gone, that's life, no point going for a list clogger.

A lot of talk here in Adelaide that you might take Sam Durdin. That would be shit for us Glenelg fans. His name being thrown around over in Vic Media?

The reverse of this discussion is that we have focussed heavily over the past four years on mid-fielders/flankers so our list is well stocked in these areas, so unlikely anyone drafted is going to better than who we currently have on our list.
It may be worth taking best available tall in this draft until the end of the season when we can review this, McDonald won't survive and whether we can maintain the faith in both McGovern & Marchbank that they are going to injury free going forward is up for discussion.

Bold to assume all three will be available the whole time.

No reason someone like Sam Durdin can’t be a future AFL player.
If he works out he would be a logical replacement for McDonald, who I can’t see being re-signed. They were the same draft.
Maybe Voss was referring to a Cale Hooker, Lachie Henderson type.

If the 'best available tall' is thought to have a future on our list beyond the next 6 weeks then I'm all for it. It's not like the NFL where you can hand out 2 month contracts. Wait and see who's left at our pick I guess.

Carlton

Pick range: 13-15
Needs: They lack tall defensive depth and are seeking run through the midfield. They have two list spots available with defenders more likely to be available than midfielders late in the mid-season draft.
Potential targets: Former Kangaroo and current Glenelg defender Sam Durdin is one option while the Blues have also been linked to Richmond VFL wingman Lachlan Carrigan. Carlton VFL player Zavier Maher has trained with the Blues so is a known quantity and Port Melbourne’s Will Reinhold is also a good defensive option.

I think we all now understand that our biggest need is key position players and potentially rucks with key defensive now being a priority. If they can fill a need now they will have a long term future on our list, at least for the next two years. At this point we need coverage in these areas as they will impact our structure and development of our young list. We don't want our younger players being impacted through injury by having to play in positions better suited to strong bodies, or players having to compromise their roles to the detriment of the team such as playing Cripps in the ruck.
