But we can hand out contact for balance of this season
Yes, but in some cases you are asking players to move interstate, toss in their job etc for a couple of months of footy. Some will want more security than that.

I think we all now understand that our biggest need is key position players and potentially rucks with key defensive now being a priority. If they can fill a need now they will have a long term future on our list, at least for the next two years. At this point we need coverage in these areas as they will impact our structure and development of our young list. We don't want our younger players being impacted through injury by having to play in positions better suited to strong bodies, or players having to compromise their roles to the detriment of the team such as playing Cripps in the ruck.
I understand what Carlton needs. I'm just not sure the ' take whichever tall is available ' is the smart move. Durdin looks worth a shot if he's there.

We kind of have no choice now we need 2 ready to go round 13, KPPs...
Hoping Ballenden and Durdin last to our picks...

I'm curious if we'd play them straight away even if we got them.

I mean, are we really going to throw them straight into the AFL team and force them to step up a level with very little time to learn our gameplan, structures and train with their teammates?

Maybe, but it would be quite a challenge for them. Especially blockbusters against Essendon and Richmond with big crowds.

They have both played in AFL systems.

If you give them a basic lock down player X role they could be put straight in.

I believe taking the best available tall is probably is more the narrative, our hand has been forced by injuries, our inability to bring in some talls is going to have a wider impact, eg playing Cripps & Silvagni is certaintly going to hurt us whilst Mckay & Weitering & Pittonet out for another month.

If we target talls it should be to utilizes them asap otherwise we’d be just recruiting for our seconds team …

Both could if we get Ballenden and Durdin. Put Ballenden (Or similar player in ruck) in the ruck and TDK up forward, The forward structures are far more important. Durdin could play down back on key forwards as lock down. They are both from AFL backgrounds. The bye will help

I still don’t quite understand our train-on players during the pre-season, none were KPD (Lieu & Lewis were not), whilst J.Cripps fit the bill for a target but just not there at the level.

We’ll see how we go obtaining our preferred players at the MSD.

The seems to be a sense of denial that there is a list imbalance, let alone one exacerbated by injuries.
Or a least a lot of optimism that things will get better, not worse.

Indeed, don't need to do anything revolutionary.
Get Durdin in to play lockdown KPD. See ball = punch ball or mark ball.
Tell him to handball to Saad, Docherty and Stocker until he learns the game plan.

Sam Edmund on Guessen said “we were after a midfielder and a KPP…”

Didn’t say who, or if things now change with Weitering going down…

Haven’t listened to guessen since hutch’s brought it… Sam’s a Carlton supporter, does he get good intel?
Lots of rumours linking us to Carmichael (mid). I reckon if he's there it's almost certain we take him and use the 2nd pick on a KPP to fill our immediate need. Lots of noise around Durdin for that one.

Will be interesting too see what we do if Carmichael is gone (seems likely now). I would be pretty happy taking both Durdin and Ballendon personally.

I wonder if a 33 year old Albert Proud is on our radar at all.

Now, hear me out, needs a bridge to be built and a peace pipe, but let’s say someone can convince Liam jones to get the jab..can he just walk back onto the list?
“Yeh, we really hated ya when you left us high and dry but now you can help save us”..just can’t see many MSD picks that would know most of the team as well and be a proven 195Cm+ def 😬
